Honestly some of the people that dislike Wuk would be the same people that would say Lyse is a good character

The Ugly? Too many cutscenes. There's a space in the 95-97 range that's about 7000 hours of cutscenes. Enough already. Also, too many walk around with NPC X quests. What, exactly is the point of that? I've been levelling a DPS and haven't had a queue last over 5 minutes yet - have two dungeons and two trials to go... but I didn't run one of the NEW DPS jobs so I was ahead of the curve.
As a viper main, while leveling noticed a lot of people not even doing positional combos on this job and not using burst windows properly or pool resources. It reminds me of when Samurai first was released and people thought it was bad, but didn't really understand the fundamentals of the job and did die a ton. I think over time the population of this job maining it will stabilize , and you will see an average skill level of players go up who play it. It's too early to really go into it as I haven't raided on viper yet, but I can say I enjoy it aesthetically, and its very fast so you always have something to do.
Wuk Lamat is only bad because of her VA not having any sort of inflections of what's going on. Greatest example is the last trial she is unwilling to budge from her tone it's the same voice you hear from the beginning.
Wuk Lamat is precious. It's just that there's too much of her. This doesn't feel like our story, but someone else's. And I hope they don't use the same formula of storytelling going onward.
I've been playing Dawntrail with JP audio but after hearing the EN performance...wow it's night and day, Wuk Lamat especially.

are vipers really that bad? I've been playing viper and only doing duty support but it doesn't seem that undertuned. it doesn't have any defensive abilities outside of role actions though, so I gereby diagnose skill issue
Don't put "Viper" in the bad category just cause so many unskilled casuals dove into the job headfirst! D:
Completely off-topic but man, watching that Pictomancer gameplay I'm still not sold on the visuals. I think the job looks lovely in isolation, but FFXIV's visual/art direction is far more realistic than something like WoW or League of Legends, so it just looks out of place compared to even something like Reaper's effects. That said it would be cool if Square eventually would go for a more stylized and exaggerated visual style that feels almost like a Pixar movie.
Can't say I've noticed bad vipers but oh, I've had my share of dancers so far in early access, which is wild because that's been out for a while... XD I'm just going to assume a) they haven't read their tooltips and b) maybe they're not used to melee, I've played it a lot (I main DRG mostly, normally) and it's been a lot of fun, very fast during the speedy bits. Great video and looking forward to seeing how you find the rest of the expansion. Wuk Lamat is indeed interesting in her development, can't wait to see how she grows.
Maybe no lag on PC... But Xbox was terrible. Every other c.s. was a d.c. for us. And the lag was awful. Just so u know the experience was not the same for everyone else as smooth as it was for u
