    Its actually really funny that less than a day after this video came out, they announced astro changes thats basically answering most of your issues with the class. Adjusting lighspeed recast time and giving it charges will make it MUCH more flexible to use for movement and burst. Changing astral/umbral draw recast times will handle issues with drift, and increased macrocosmos potency will now make it damage neutral vs fall malefic. Now the only ask is to change gravity potency, and replace synestry with time dilation, and youve got a brew going.

      Is it wrong that I want Macrocosmos to go up to like ... 300-400 potency? I'll be fine if it's just AoE malefic though.

    I don't hate Arrow for having a 'increased healing received' effect
    I hate the Arrow because it should have been the Ranged damage card instead of the Spear

      Spear should be Balance (melee damage), and Balance should be increase healing done (nothing else REALLY fits that mechanic anyway, so why not Balance?), not to mention ending the "Oops, All Balance!" memes. And Arrow should then have been the Ranged damage boost.

      @@SubduedRadical Agreed, the fact that they couldn't even put in enough thought to have 'Arrow is the Ranged card' shows how little the devs play healers, or pay attention to their lore/identity/aesthetic. As long as the numbers are good enough according to their simulations, nothing else matters to them regarding healers it would seem

      @@OneTallBloke I don't know if it's EXACTLY that - Arrow used to be a speed boost at one time and "The Balance" as "damage" has always been a thing. So it being top of mind for "the does damage card" I can understand, even if I disagree with it.
      I don't know if I'd go QUITE so far as to condemn them over it, but I do think they could put a bit more thought into it.

      @@OneTallBlokean Astro friend of mine stated that the cards are like this because of their lore. According to them They are divided into astral and umbral. I haven’t bothered to check myself though.

      @@supergold9390 They are divided into Astral and Umbral based on their elements, yes, but the lore's been mangled several times over the years to try and 'explain' the card system and its constant reworks. The original pairings from HW (Balance/Bole, Arrow/Spear, Spire/Ewer) also respected Astral/Umbral split, the SHB/EW pairings (Balance/Bole, Arrow/Ewer, Spire/Spear) ALSO were Astral/Umbrally split. So I don't get why they decided they needed to swap the pairings AGAIN. Especially if the effect of the card is going to have little to no relation to the card itself (eg Spear being ranged damage). They could have left it as the EW pairs, and had Balance be the 'Healing up' card instead of Arrow, then had Spear be Melee and Arrow be Ranged.
      It all just smells of 'the devs don't play AST beyond making sure it has enough numbers to clear content'

      It might be because of the backlash that Summoner and Paladin's reworks got. I don't main Astro or Dragoon, but I would hope they keep as much about what people love about the jobs the same. Just fixing some pain points.

I honestly hope square ignores everyone and just makes what they want because their fan base is just full of you dumb kids who can't be happy with anything no matter how much effort is made.

      We had all the damage cards. And damage clears content not single target ogcd regens and shields.

    Ngl I was one of the AST doomer before the expac arrived, based on media tour info. AST is my main and I prog everything on them. I agree that the new 4 cards are kinda meh and useless depending on situations, but can be powerful to save someone who messed up. It makes the job even busier which I like.
    Few people liked Astrodyne, I personally found it fun and I do mourn my MP and fast cast with the new AST x) The lack of mobility + the proactive healing playstyle makes AST very skillfull to play, as you gotta know well the fight to fully master the insane potency.
    All the mitigation makes him very valuable as you say. Just to note, mitigation isn't additive but multiplicative, so you can't stack 20% AOE / 40% ST mitig, but 19% AOE and 35% ST. Which is still insane tbh.

      Same on DRG with high jump and mirage dive. It throws off my muscle memory :/

      @@axylum4453 You can still do it on dragoon, if you open up mirage dive on your actions tab, you can disable the internal cooldown, the majority of job changes like this can be reverted.

    Not only do I give spear to melee because of reflex but I also instantly still draw at the beginning of instances. Overwriting both Lord AND Balance. Like i would have rather they just give us sleeve draw back.

    The thought of the cards is pre 50, You gain so much more kit lower level. After 70 it hits drop off cause your getting more and more stuff that is just the cards you had 30-70.

    Was hoping for more like, defensive/dps/other for cards. So like one card could make the target move fast (like an extra sprint), one card could extend the buff time of your buffs, including cards. That plays nicely into the time mage feeling too...
    Would trade an ED charge for a lightspeed charge...

      ​@@skeptik6707100% agree. HW Astro was so good. I understand needing to change some things for balance purposes, but the Royal Road mechanic and Spread really put the cards and decision making at the forefront of its playstyle. ❤

    Nice! Just saw they posted in Lodestone their plans for further Ast changes for 7.01 looks like were getting a lot of fixes folks called out for, happy to light speed cd change and charges, thats going to be very nice.

    I'm crossing my fingers. On release in ShB Astro was *rough*, but the tweaks it got really helped it.
    I mean right now it really works, but it feels like MacGyver put it together with a thumbtack and a potato. Russet, in case you were wondering. 😂

    I swear they increased gravity's range.
    Prepatch enemies had to be kissing for gravity to hit more than two. Now I am nuking entire groups without having to prod the tank to geoup them tighter.

      ​@Sammysapphira That doesn't really address the issue when you have several large enemies and because enemies DO have collision, they don't group up close enough for a lot of these 5y radius attacks to hit multiple larger enemies in a group.

    They probably chose this version of the card system as a crutch for people who couldn't play around the "time mage" parts of AST's kit. If you get a bunch more instant ogcd healing and mit tools then its not quite as punishing when you don't know how to use Earthly Star properly. (That, or they didn't really think about these changes before finalizing, which also seems possible).

    My biggest problem is how bad it feels when I don't have a reason to use the utility cards. At some point you either just throw them out for shits'n'giggles or overwrite them (as you already do in the opener). I think this would only get worse the more gear everyone has.

      Ok. But HW had you overwriting cards. Or rather, cards were already fodder. This just feels like a simplified version of it. If anything, it just feels like HW-lite.
      I do wish spire was the HoT and ewer a utility like speed or mp regen. Spire just feels like *such* a weak shield, like why bother.

      We kept the 2 good cards, balance and bole.
      Messing with others' tp/mp: bleh.
      Messing with others' CDs and gcd speed: bleh.
      They were cool effects but it's preferable that they made these resources personal responsibilities and took away the party's ability to mess with them.

    So, I started playing in HW, and I was an Omni-Healer by the end of SB, though I mostly played WHM and considered that to be my main. I then proceeded to main WHM all the way to the end of ShB. In Endwalker, they came out with M-Viera and Sage, and I decided I would pick up SGE cause it seemed like fun, and I liked the aesthetic, plus I was like "New race, new job!"
    I loved Sage, and mained it for all of Endwalker, however towards the end I was thinking it might be nice to pick up my old friend WHM again for Dawntrail. It was the Job I identified with the most after all, and it had been with me through so many cannon events.
    Then Dawntrail came out. I saw the changes they were making for both SGE and WHM, and at first I was excited! Then I saw the changes for AST and SCH, and I was a little less excited for the changes to SGE and WHM, but more excited for the state of healers overall... that is... until I got my hands on all of them...
    When I got SGE to level 100, and got the capstone spell... Philosophia, it... it felt underwhelming... I felt jipped honestly... And the more I looked into the changes to WHM, the less excited I was to play that, I keep hearing it's not balanced well and it's the poorest performing healer of the four. Then I started leveling AST, and while I love the changes to that, (since they feel closer to what the HW cards were like, and I was one of the people who didn't complain about the cards in HW and loved the card system from back then. ) I felt the job was TOO good... I haven't hit level 100 on it yet, but directly comparing it's leveling through dungeons to the same experience on SGE, I feel like I actively used more of my kit on SGE in the same content... On AST I feel like I'm not even using a fraction of what's available to me and even the card system which I was excited for originally... the utility cards feel like they are either useless or just get defaulted to the tank either before a tankbuster or before the draw skill comes off CD.
    I feel like there's no card I can use for my own benefit, (like HW Ewer.) Unless I'm reading the tooltips incorrectly. They are all better given to other jobs, like melee or ranged dps, or the tank. It's honestly just frustrating, I got so frustrated that in the last boss of the level 93 dungeon I said 'Watch how broken this is...' I proceeded to just stand in aoes and pop cooldowns on myself and just completely ignore mechanics all while still healing the party and dpsing... I felt disgusted with both myself and the devs after that.
    *TLDR:*
    I feel like for the first time ever since I first began my MMO Journey as a 13 year old boy, playing WoW in 2005 I may need to retire my healer badge and become a DPS main, either that or just step away from the game until the Devs manage to rebalance the healers properly so that they're all equally fun to play while still keeping to their own job fantasy. 😮‍💨

    It really just feels like AST gets more OGCDs, as opposed to anything really interesting requiring card weaving.
    I love the effects, but it feels so bland...

    Is Astro strong? Yes. Is it fun? Not for me personally. I came back to the game when astro released because I loved the card fantasy. Now, as you mentioned, it feels tacked on. I may adjust to it over the expansion, but right now I don't enjoy it

      I think that's par for the course for FF players now, they all hate the jobs they play. Coming online I'm just greeted with a deluge of "I HATE THIS I CAN'T BELIEVE YOSHIDA PERSONALLY OVERSAW THE BUTCHERING OF MY FAVOURITE FEATURE HURR DURR". It's tiring lmao.

    I pref the new cards makes things a little more interesting. But also its better than the last two expantions for me as i miss my old gutted stormblood astro. Its a welcome change for me. 😊

    would changing astral/umbral draw to 55 second cooldown help with the drifting. also hope they change light speed to 60 seconds instead of 90

      Please stop I can only get so turned on. But yeah, that would make it way better. It's legit worse to drift draws on AST rn than it was to drift jump/geirskogul on DRG. A 60s lightspeed would also make dealing cards in burst windows MUCH smoother.

    I really like the cards. I hated the solar, lunar and celestial sigil mechanic from ShB and EnW. I get probably from a meta perspective having every card be a "put this on the dnc partner" card made it simpler, but having some of the cards be the AST personal resource again feels better to me. Bonus points, the same target can have more than one card effect on a themselves now without it overwriting another card effect. It makes the cards less stressful for when I found myself paired with another AST for whatever reason. But I'm surprise there's more negativity towards the cards now that they removed rng and gave each card a different effect.

      They have the exact same group of four managing every single job as they did in ARR. At least according to the credits at the end of endwalker. Meaning the same group has to manage double the amount of jobs.

    casual players never necessarily hated the cards in a bubble, so much as they generally dislike single target ogcds on party members that you *have* to press, because they usually end up drifting their gcd from not being able to select a party member, press the button, and tab back quickly enough (which is why PF white mages sometimes act like pressing benediction requires like three seconds of downtime). this version of AST not only doesn't solve that, it actively made it worse!

      If this really is a problem, then they should just get rid of single target cards, make them AoE and obviously rework them (again), but if people really do not like it, I'd rather have a job that most people will find fun/engaging to play with than just a job which I and just a bunch of other people in the world enjoy

    Hi, sorry what do you mean by Celestial Opposition being one of the skills that need to be planned for optimal use? I generally use it as an immediate placeholder for a big raidwide if I don't have star or horoscope up, then I follow it with Helios. What would be a better way to utilise it please? (Pre-planned-wise I mean. Hope this question makes sense😅)

    The only card that feels moot with 2 stacks of noct already existing is the spire, although I'm not sure what form of mit could take its place. Maybe a proc when the shield breaks?

      My impression was that if there are fights that have a similar style of giving out damage to those fights, Sun Sign will be ridiculously powerful. Which is true.

    It's slower and clunkier now. Cards don't feel like a core component, more tacked on. This was my main for healing, but no more. It feels awful now.

      Astro cards felt incredibly tacked on in endwalker too tbh. They are never making it as complex as stormblood because it would be a balancing nightmare sadly

    You've mentioned before the Astro doesn't feel like Astro anymore. I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on that? I started leveling AST in late Endwalker before the changes. I've read up on the old abilities astrologian use to have. Dinurnal/Nocturnal Sect, the old card system, Royal Road and Time Dilation. But it feels like there's some other aspect I'm missing regarding old AST.

      Its the rng thats missing the fantasy of astro was always calling upon the fates to grant you cards and dealing/playing through what fate gives you for better or worse with new astro the rng is gone you always know what your getting so decisions based upon fates whims are gone.

      @@blackhat958 True but is RGN even a good thing for the player to worry about? People had to deal with the cards and redraw and playing them with RNG what you drew. And in the same time do damage and heal and worry about mechanics. It was just a mess. Espacially on controller. I would rather have the Dinurnal/Nocturnal Sect back.

      @@MeldinX2 its a debate for sure and im not arguing about the effectivness of the role im mkre talking about the flaviour of the role the fantasy of it and how it bo longer has that fantasy which is put into a spotlight because every other job in the game has the fantasy of it intact so that pust astro in a weird standout position when its the only job that doesnt.

      @@MeldinX2 Different perspectives. The RNG made the job harder to play, but having to make those split-second decisions about where to play the card, whether to redraw it, whether to burn it on Minor Arcana, etc. was what I really enjoyed about the job. Healing outside of high-end content is generally pretty boring, so playing a little minigame with my cards was super engaging and interesting to me, and now that's gone. You don't have to think about where you play your dps cards -- The Balance goes on one melee every time, The Spear goes on one ranged every time. And outside of high-end content, the healing/mitigation cards will just get played on the main tank, or worse -- you'll just not play them and overwrite them with your next draw because you have more than enough tools as-is. I miss SHB Astro :(

    As I feared, I do not enjoy these cards after a week of play. They could have been much more interesting and not be lower potencies of already existing abilities. The only hope I'm clinging onto now is the combat design (which has been really fun so far in the dungeons and EX trials) and the changes to lightspeed and card recast times that they posted on the lodestone earlier today.

    Compared to before, it feels worse recovering mana after dying. Before I would usually be able to draw right away (sometimes even twice), now with bad timing I have to wait almost a minute to draw for mana.

    bit of a bummer to hear. I have not raided with astro, but I enjoy playing it, and while I liked the idea of cards with different effects instead of just damage buffs, its unfortunate that their usage doesn't feel particularly interesting.

      Agreed. I used AST during the entirety of the MSQ. I personally enjoyed it, but I have to agree that the card don't feel necessary during healing when the tank knows their job. (Maybe except in the latest dungeon, they hit hard lol)
      Also tried AST in the second ex trial, it's fun, but kinda a bummer to overwrite the cards that you don't need to use. I wish we had more moments when it feels necessary.

    Wait, does the arrow work with oGCD heals? I always thought it was GCDs only. So if it says action it's oGCD too?

      Healing actions = all abilities, healing spells = only gcds

      correct "healing actions" increases all incoming healing;
      IIRC "increases healing magic potency" increases all outgoing GCD heals

    I thought I would enjoy new ast as someone who played it a lot in EW but i really dont vibe with some of the rigidness and a point of personal bitching i really hate 3 buttons for the cards. so the job isnt for me anymore which is ok i have bard and scholar to play instead. but if i could change ast id do this
    Spear = Melee
    Arrow = Ranged
    Spire = Mini nuke
    Balance = Dot
    Ewer = Shield
    Bole = 5% mit on target(aoe)
    whilst bringing back the old 1 card at a time. to reduce the issue of people fishing fir the dps boost cards id put some limitation on redraw if not remove it

    I think the changes are better moving forward. This way they can focus on other things instead of the RNG clunky card system that is terrible to use. Espacially on controller. Sure pro astro players might miss it but it will make the job more accessable for most players.

    They should remove the damage cards to give us freedom to hold or choose when we want to use the cards. Because the DMG cards, we need to keep draw on CD making us discard some utility.

      You can still hold cards(Except the damage one) unless you hold them until the Draw comes back from cooldown.

    The class feels adjacent to how it felt in stormblood. I personally enjoy the class as a whole in Dawntrail since what drew me to the class was how it was set up in stormblood.

    So now it's just a monotonous 2 cards for DPS, 4 cards for tank with no excitement nor rng. Cool
    All they had to do was add these different effects ontop of the damage boost but make it so that only Balance and Arrow can give 6% to melee and ranged respectively while the rest give 3% with added bonuses.
    Also wtf am I going to do with 10% single target increased healing? Make that shit an instant heal! Make Bole give 20% dmg mit. Ewer gives both regen and mana regen. Spire is actually fine a shield is great. Let us keep Astrodyne and boom! There is your AST rework with added flavors for different cards.
    Because using your utility cards will give you three benefits, a seal for astrodyne like before, a small damage increased, and a good defensive. Could be lazy and spam this all on the tank like right now or maximize dps by giving it to the dps with odd number burst windows like those nins/sam. Could just use it defensively on a teammate thats struggling and you wouldnt feel like it'd be a waste. All while still having that same element of rng and thinking on your toes that defined AST.
    For Minor Arcana, why not just make it so that you can only use it when you have Astrodyne active? Depending on if your 3 seals are more Astral or Umbral leaning, you'd get Lord or Lady respectively. So you'd kinda have a small control of what you're going to get since you can still redraw cards

    I levelled AST to 100. I was kinda looking forward to the changes before I played it, but now after leveling I think theyre just ok, maybe not really worth the effort of changing the job lol. For now I would really like Draw to be 55ish sec instead of 60 because the drift was my biggest challenge in trials. Also side note on SGE - people were kinda meh about Philosphia but I love healing people from far away now. This was a pain point for me on SGE in anabaseios .

    The true crime is the "gravity" that is the disparity between WHM and AST. All of this functionality loaded, yes arguably you need to be good with it, but the potential of what is available in comparison is believable only due to the lack of faith in their ability to line up class balance. I think its awesome Momo was able to point out the theoretical effectiveness of mitigation and its something WHM has been sorely lacking in comparison. While the doubled up mitigation might not be "needed" in said comparison, the fact its there doesn't sit well with me. I think someone in the office really loves AST and just wants to overload them or keeps dipping their hands into the pure healer pot leaving WHM with the scraps lol.

    Having used it now, and seen the recent improvements, I hate the new card system. I hate it so much. I do not like how we just... hold our DPS cards to use back to back. The rest of cards are useful, but they are not particularly impactful, and none of the cards feel connected to anything else we do. I like so much about this job, but they cannot get a card system that feels good.

      performance wise could be specially on the healing / single target aspect. The thing is its funnier? Only you can decide, on savage just play which class you prefer you dont need to follow the meta or something all 4 healers are good enough

      ​@@Nobilitism It's not like that anymore, which sucks. No more double weaving and drawing and throwing out cards all the time. You press like maybe...3 buttons in 60 seconds for your cards. There is no weaving requirements anymore making it extremely boring imo.
      It just plays exactly like the other healers now. It completely lost it's identity.

      It has the highest pure healing output (you will rarely ever use even half of it though) and can...buff damage for longer than Scholar. That's it. The card system changes made it play like every other healer now.

First of all, you don't need to have all your credentials to make an opinion, heck look at yourself, but even if you needed to i have cleared every single ultimate and have done savage tiers week 1 for many years now, as both tank and healer. Am i better than Momo? of course not, but it is your type of commetns that show ignorance more than anything.

    I just can't get behind this card system tbh, I already know how Im going to play my next 3 cards before I even hit draw its just sad. I miss the reactive gameplay this class used to have, now its just a slapped down watered version of aetherflow tied to 2 tank CD's and a dps card...ontop of this the cards are (mostly) already copies of oGCD's that AST already has....
