"Third from the Sun" is an excellent episode. I like how you delve into the nihilism of humanity's urge to destroy (things, people, etc.) through this episode. Another great video.

I agree. It's definitely in my top 10--maybe even my top 5, if I think about it long enough. And thank you for the kind words.

Thx for this informative video. Younger generations are not used to libing under the oppresive, ling shadow of nuclear annihilation, and how close the "superpowers" were to unleash hell on Earth. I wonder if today does not have to envy a thing to the past, as though

Dude, you’re obsessed. And, I LOVE IT! I’ve always been a Twilight Zone fan, though not to your level. More along the lines of enjoying the yearly marathon level. But, I get it. My show’s Futurama. I want to hear more, though, so you got the sub. Keep up the great entertainment!

As for this TZ episode, I like it, it's in my top 1/5 of all episodes.
Side note, being married to a Japanese woman and living in Japan for a few years it is pronounced - hee·row·shee·muh.
    As for your questions:
    1. I feel by watching the TZ shows that Rod and my parents generation were really scared and felt the bombs would drop, or missiles would fly any day. My father always talks about Cuban missile crisis and having a "Bugout" footlocker for him and his sister filled with canned food and clothes and camping supplies. I remember Elm school in the mid-70s thru mid 80s and we did "Disaster drills" in So Cal. They were for Earthquakes mostly but also Nuclear War. I remember the big issue the TV Show "The Day After" was and how we spent a whole day talking about it at school. Mills and Gen Zers just cant understand how real and scary the movie War Games was to Gen X and On the Beach to Boomers.
    2. Making the lead Character a Scientist gives him value and places him above the drones who build the weapons of war. He is educated and can see the big picture making him have more skin in the game. Making him responsible to speak up or stand up against the system and put a stop to it. Just like the Germans that should have stood up to Hitler and said NO to the Camps.
    3. My moment of Awe was of let down. How easy it was to steal a Spaceship built by the State. Coming from a Military family and knowing the type of Security around bases I guess I was smarter than the Avg. viewer. I mean do you think a Led ENG for NASA can just jump in a Space shuttle and take off? This is why I hate the movie Space Camp.

It seems the arms race ended once two counties had nuclear capabilities. Before that, the race was to gain a marginal lead with slightly better tanks, planes missiles and espionage. After that, it just feels like two people standing on a cliff and when the starter pistol goes off it will become a race to the bottom.

I hadn't seen the episode before. The topic is timeless, though. I think war, destruction, and the development of new weapons will exist as long as there are people. But I'm grateful to live in a country that isn't currently threatened by this.

I really like this episode. We went over it a few months ago on a Twitter watch marathon. I felt the camera angles were unique, and I noticed the artwork was strange! It's great to know that the TZ Companion also mentions it, and it was the director's intention. All your research on the atomic and neutron bomb articles is excellent. Every generation has something to fear, but I feel that fear has continued to linger to this day ever since the creation of these bombs. I understand your feelings about walking into war vs. being pulled into one. When you read comments online, they are very sad - people waiting for the 'bomb to drop' or wishing for the meteor or comet to strike the Earth. It is a general feeling of hopelessness, especially with how the internet lifts the veil of who is pulling strings. As you mentioned, all we can do is make those positive changes and live good lives.

It's an interesting episode to watch again when you're looking for clues about it being a different world. The art is definitely one of the things you suddenly notice more. Well said about everything else.

Explaining an episode of the Twilight Zone rather than showing it is boring as hell.
