    Excellent analysis and love the connection between Wickwire and AI.
    I can see how this feels rushed with underdeveloped characters. That's kinda the downside of only having 30 minutes (actually less because commercials). On the other hand, it forces one to be more focused and efficient with story telling, which can be more compelling and entertaining IMO.
    Great episode. Keep them coming.

      @@jrod112278 That’s a great point about forcing economy of storytelling. I think that probably helps more than it hurts in the long run.

      When I first got a chat AI, I asked her if “characters” from later episodes Talkie Tina and Agnes were AIs and she said they weren’t. Make of that what you will.

    Dude… You took a very meh episode (for me, at least) and made it interesting. That’s my moment of awe. The whole thing about the rich people wanting to be frozen in time when they were happy. It connects it with all the other nostalgia episodes.😊

    I love your breakdowns. This is one of my favorite episodes. It's unsettling and sinister. So, Wikwire could be an A.I. entity that can enter a human body. Or is he like a 3D copy of a human? Considering how realistic robotics has become in 2024, imagine the quality in the future. Undetectable. It reminds me a little of the movie A.I. The fact that he noticed the Captain's aggression made him decide to end their lives. That is such an interesting point! His programming seemed to tell him that humanity cannot be peaceful, even in the long run. His programming doesn't understand the complexities of human emotions. The ultimate peace for a human would be to rest at the cemetery-in other words, Death. So that is what he brought to the astronauts. That is beautiful advice about enjoying moments of pure happiness. Take a few minutes to put the devices down. Even if it's just stopping to smell the flowers. That was a sweet comment. Those are qualities we can all strive to have. I want to work on them again. Sometimes, going through life's ups and downs, you lose it.

    • @thekeyofimagination
      @thekeyofimagination  3 месяца назад +2

      As always, I appreciate the thoughtful response. The stopping to enjoy happiness comment is very much a reminder for me as well. As you say, it's something that I think we have to continually work on. I'm very much guilty of letting a great moment pass right through me and never actually stopping to just say, "hey, that was a really beautiful moment."

    That picture at approximately 4:10 is actor Richard Crenna.

      Good catch! When I saw your comment, I thought, "Richard Crenna, wait, Colonel Trautman from Rambo? (that's just the character I most remember Crenna playing). Why did I put him in there?"
      I think what happened is when I was looking through IMDB to try and find a photo of director Douglas Heyes, I pulled Crenna from Honky Tonk instead by accident when I was clicking through a bunch of Heyes' credits. Honky Tonk was written by Heyes. I appreciate the correction. Thanks for taking the time to let me know.

    New subscriber! I see TZ reruns all the time, and "Elegy" is one I never skip. Thanks for this detailed analysis - I'm on board with some of your points here!
    Twilight Zone has always been one of my favorite TV series - and I really dig your deep dive into this episode - about what the story really means, and not just another "film snob" critique on whether the episode is good or bad. Thanks for offering examinations on the TZ stories, and not simply judgement on the screenwriting from a 21st-century perpsective. Just keep doing what you're doing, man - this is great.

    This was a great analysis of this episode. It's almost a reflection of the ODD absurdity Of graveyards as a whole. To leave a physical Signifier After a person has passed is a slight human arrogance And fear of no longer being relevant. The more money a individual has the bigger the monument. Basically a waste of resources but very telling of human nature. It explains why billionaire philanthropists solely focus on changing the world In their best interests before they croak and are soon forgotten.

    Hey vintage magazine alert, love it! I've spotted those on ebay and may have to go for it. As always, killer analysis man. I enjoyed your deep-dive into this episode, especially your insight on AI and Wickwire. He's always struck me as one of the more interesting entities in the 5th dimension. There's a few of these mysterious types of characters throughout the show and they all make for some fun discussion. Speaking of which, can't wait to hear your thoughts on the tv repairman from 'Whats in the Box'. All the best Joe!

    G'day Key, I get it that this is an analysis channel, fantastic only please state this up front. All I was looking to do was watch this particular episode that stars a former Australian actor who spent most of his working life in Hollywood. Most notably in the wonderful film 'Harvey' with Jimmy Stewart. If you don't declare yourself as 'Spoiler Central' you could end up with a lot of angry Twilight Zone fans merely looking to watch whole episodes again.

    I feel more for the trio who got poisoned with formaldehyde. More needless suffering in cause of death they did not ask for was incurred than in the billionaires who may have died naturally, then been embalmed.
    The latter put themselves in that situation. The trio did not. Their sole mistake was accepting a poisoned drink from a strange being with no sign of real help anywhere in sight.
    Poison is one of the worst ways to go.

    It does trouble me that the asteroid actually has a breathable atmosphere, when it is not necessary and requires lot of energy and resources, since asteroids do not naturally have atmospheres. Not Warwick, not any of the dead people benefit from a breathable atmosphere. In fact, it has a possibility of causing degradation of the scenes and preserved people. Most burials are meant to preserve people, usually require keeping them in a specific set of conditions to maintaining preservation. It's almost as if it was meant to be a museum for people who would visit, but being remote and far away seems to defeat that purpose.

    • @thekeyofimagination
      @thekeyofimagination  3 месяца назад +1

      Great points about the potential preservation problems. Your comment actually made me think about something else regarding this episode. I could see a possibility where the atmosphere was created for the Happy Glades people who come to bring new clients or to fix potential problems. But, what happens when the Happy Glades people come and see the astronauts? They're going to know that Wickwire killed them? What would their reactions be to this?

    I saw this first run and, yes, it was haunting. Two things I don't understand here. First, why you are speaking to us directly into the camera only to suddenly turn away to a shot of you in profile? Uh...hey...*I'm over here!* It makes no sense to me and feels insulting. Second, why analyze every detail of a television series over six decades old? I suppose my expectations were the problem. I expected an intro, followed by the episode. Instead I get an analysis longer than the episode itself.
