I’m coming to you live from Serlingfest 2024, and wishing I could meet all of you here with me. If you’re new to the channel, consider joining us on this journey through the fifth dimension. We’re walking through the Twilight Zone and asking questions about life.

It's 1AM so my good deed will have to wait until tomorrow.... Excellent commentary, thanks.

I love Kevin McCarthy and was so happy he starred in at least one Twilight Zone. Invasion of the Body Snatchers is one of my favorite movies. I think the color effect was used prior to Jekyll and Hyde too in a silent film. I did a check and it was in Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ (1925). But it definitely perfected over time. I loved it in Jekyll.
You're right, this episode IS Humdrum… but fantastic. It is McCarthy's magnetism and charm onscreen and the excellent performance by Edgar Stehli that wins me over.
Walter has an inability to understand sacrifice - That was such a wonderful breakdown and very true. A sacrifice is a sort of death. The death of our desires in order to help others. A sacrifice could be the ultimate - our lives - or very small - just a minute of our time. I agree with you that there is a point where humanity's wisdom tops off. Which is why we have the phrase "History repeats itself." If we were immortal humans under these world conditions, we would just "go on living" as Walter said, without gaining much more wisdom.
Albert Einstein once said: “The man who regards his life as meaningless is not merely unhappy but hardly fit for life.” Walter, being immortal, seems to have lost himself and just goes on living. He is merely living for his own gratification, such as marrying these women only to abandon them when they get old or he gets bored.
For your question, i took the challenge. I live with family and at the risk of sounding puffed up, I do meaningful things daily. So I paused the video and helped my father understand his health insurance coverage.
I look forward to the next great episode! And I really like the side angles too. It's cool to see your well-researched library, (with all the paper bookmarks! lol) and Twilight Zone Figures listening in.

As always, fantastic stuff. I appreciate the thoughts. And I love the challenge you did. I have a friend who is helping another friend to try and navigate the tedious language involved in her healthcare in the middle of a rather serious fight for life. It's so difficult to understand the jargon sometimes That's wonderful that you are helping your father with that.

If I remember correctly, this was one the first TZ episode I ever watched. I do enjoy this one.
Kevin McCarthy was a great actor. Loved him in Invasion of the Body Snatchers (glad they gave him a quick cameo in the 70s remake). Yes, I've seen (and own) UHF. He had the some best lines (this community means as much to me as a festering bowl of dog snot).
Favorite line from this episode: "It's death that gives this world its point. We love a rose because we know it'll soon be gone. Whoever loved a stone?"
I agree that the pacing and energy level of the episode perfectly reflects Walter because he has lived so long that he has become bored with life. He is in an endless rut of living a life, moves on before people before people become suspicious, rinse, repeat.
Looking forward to the next episode.

@@jrod112278 jrod dropping the “festering bowl of dog snot” line from UHF is my current favorite moment of the day. 😆
This is really an enjoyable episode. I could watch it as a play and probably still like it.

Another great episode - Love Kevin McCarthy and I could listen to Edgar Stehli croak the phone book, lol! I know you won't believe this, but as I was watching this episode on my PC, my second monitor was tuned in to Pluto TV - and they show a LOT of TZ . Swear to dog, "Long Live Walter Jameson" was showing! *Cue creepy TZ music*
BTW, I'm in the Immortality Won't Make You Wiser camp. I've always felt that some wisdom is just the learned ability to make good decisions, as a result of experience gained by making bad decisions.

Yes! I love when these little Twilight Zone moments happen in real life. Thank you for the kind words--and for sharing your thoughts on the wisdom question. I appreciate you taking the time.

I spent 6 hours with a Vet who has PTSD and was thinking of suicide. I stayed with him and talked about what he could do to repair is relationship with his 7 yr old daughter until he fell asleep. Then waited for 90 mins until is sister showed up in order to stay with him and make sure he was safe when he woke up.
As for Pineapple on Pizza I am pro pineapple but I prefer spicy Pep over salty ham.

That's just about the most perfect encapsulation of humanity in one statement. You've got the horrible despair, but your choice to be there and offer a caring ear and supportive thoughts provided enough hope to keep this person with us for another day--and that is sometimes all we can ask for in situations like these. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing that.

UHF needs no beg. If you haven't seen it, GTFOH.
