Have been fascinated by giant clams since my childhood when (in the 1960's) it seemed an ever present threat, according to the tv shows, that divers would drown due to having a giant clam close upon their foot and hold them to the bottom, unable to escape.
Love the taste of clams, I've been digging steamers and quahogs since childhood but don't think I'd ever eat a giant clam, because they're just so magnificent!
I'd no idea their striking colors were due to symbioses with algae, and am curious if the specific algae species and coloration are random, or if it is species specific- i.e., does each clam species have only a certain number of possibly symbiotic algae, while others have, well,.. others? Does it depend upon the light levels/depth? Do (or could) the various algae species affect growth rate differently?
Just some musings...
Wonderful documentary!
The snails are very big and it will definitely be delicious
Does anyone else get a sense of mystery from that processing factory down the road? :D

"Giant clams are like the turtles of the ocean."
I know what they mean but it sounds so silly out loud. 😂
So much repetitive information.
