As a Canadian...usually the cheese curds are kinda squeaky, but you can find some places where the cheese ends up melting. I like both but lean more towards the melty :)
So I’m going to let you in on a Little insider Ben: idk how it works in Korea, but here in the states when I was driving for Doorsash & Postmates they would sometimes give me 2 orders & I would go pick one up & then have to drive to the other location & pick up the other (sometimes that location was unfortunately In the mall food court) and the messed up thing is that sometimes the second order’s delivery address is closer so I had to deliver that order first. Keep in mind this whole time the first order is just sitting in the car- and Doorsash doesn’t care if it’s ice cream or a burger. Or you’ll be picking up the first order & you get assigned another order mid pickup. So now the first order has to wait while they’re making the second one which could take anywhere from 5 min- 30 min. Messed up I know but just know that whenever you order delivery this is a possibility. It’s not the driver’s fault honestly.
I'm from Quebec, Canada, and there are definitely two types of poutine out there : the one where the curds stay solid and squeaky, and the one where the curds melt. I don't know what causes the difference between the two types of cheese. I'm pretty sure some people from Quebec would be insulted by melty cheese, they're definitely supposed to stay squeaky. I personally like both, though
@@khadijahknox5424 Yeah, most likely the melty cheese isn't real cheese curds, cause it's probably a lot cheaper and I see it a lot in fast food chains (McDonald's, Valentine, etc.)
Delivery apps give the delivery driver 2 orders to pick up sometimes. So he could have grabbed your fries, then went to the mall to grab another order. I wish delivery apps would inform the customers of this.
What I've noticed with delivery fries is that they can be refreshed by popping them in the microwave for 20-40 seconds. (Shorter time than you'd imagine.) This only works with fries that still have a little bit of warmth left in them. I do it all the time with my McDonalds fries, if they aren't as hot as I'd like them to be. I'll pop 'em in the microwave for a few seconds. It's like the fryer oil that's still on them does something, I think. They taste like 90-80% as good as fresh from the fryer fries. Fries that have gone COMPLETELY STONE COLD cannot be resurrected. Edit: I'd love to see Ben visit Montreal. I think he'd like some of those roast chicken places that have the roast potatoes cooked in chicken fat? Love to see him go and explore the food.
@@tgg_705 Nah, you'd think but they actually don't dry out. I really like floppy fries too, so I'd never keep doing this if it dried them out. But everyone's microwave is different.
Hey Ben, where I'm from in Canada, we also have something we call the Meatlover Poutine. Fry up some Mushrooms, Diced Onions, Diced Green Pepper, and Ground Beef. until veggies are a little soft and ground beef is cooked. Then layer Fries, Beef/Veggie mixture, Curds, Gravy. Might be to your liking, since you were talking about adding stuff to the Poutine. Can also switch out the ground beef for some thinly sliced steak. So good.
I think it’s hilarious that Ben is mad, he has every right to be. “ I could have swam to Canada and back”! Love it. It’s why Ben is so awesome. Now I am hungry.😊

@Ynt ryan i understand that. I was talking about cheese curds. Not the poutine. Idk what the other guy was talking about he never answered. But I never said they originated here in Wisconsin, only that they're a classic food here.
I’ve had a lot of poutine and cheese curds. It’s basically like chewing on little pieces of rubber haha I love the squeaks. Usually smaller pieces than the ones you have. You can tell if it’s a real curd with that first bite.
As a Quebecer, this was a fascinating video... saying that as I'm eating a poutine. Cheese curds are the key, they need to squeak otherwise it's not poutine. To be honest a great squeaky cheese can make a great poutine by itself, if you go to a "fromagerie" with fresh cheese curds, that automatically makes fantastic poutine. This looked legit considering everything! edit: Yes you can pimp them! My favorite spot in Sherbrooke (Quebec) is Le Snack and they do a poutine with a lot of ingredients (Poutine du Boss) which I love, lots of meats and a special sauce. Pretty sure it's something you would adore.
Tbh the best is having enough hot ass gravy that the cheese curds half melt but still stay firm. Still get some squeak but you also get an insane sloppy cheese pull it just hits. My fav iteration is from a spot i used to live beside in mtl called chez claudette, iirc its called the "cabane" and it has breakfast sausage, bacon, baked beans, ham, maple syrup, and gravy. Crazy shit.
I live in Quebec Canada, and poutine I love it so much lol. And that cheese we eat alot too but in french we call it "fromage squeak squeak",you can emagine why cause of the squeaky texture. I mean yeah it ain't the most mind blowing cheese, but it sure is unique, and is a must try with poutine made with homemade fries😛
Where I'm from we produce a lot of cheese, and there's a little tip to making the curds more squeaky. Some gas stations that sell them let them sit out on the counter at room temp, this is the key to the squeak, eat them at room temp and not cold for maximum squeakage.
From Montreal and definitly recommend you two places if you ever come here : La Banquise for the wacky combos poutines (perfect after a night out) and Grégoire & Fils for the best classic poutine ever. Thanks for going the extra mile with the curds!
I'm from Montreal, Quebec and have been eating poutine my whole life. I've worked at la belle province and the differences in cheese curds definitely impact your poutine. To get squeaky cheese curds the cheese needs to not be dried and have some of the salty brine still. To get true browning on your french fries you have to double fry them and use russet potatoes. Good on you for not disgracing it with mozzarella as Ontario does.
We definitely would give you smaller/more uniform chunks of curds in Canada, but that looks mighty fine Yes, you can put whatever you want on a poutine. Lots of stores here sell their own twists on poutine. I love a buffalo chicken poutine but some people find this sacreligious lol
I’m from 🇨🇦 and I consider myself a poutine expert ! The classic one is definitely the best ! Btw, your gravy wasn’t hot enough Cheers from San Diego California
yo BEN! im from quebec, and i really wish you could taste the good shit around here. but gotta agree, this poutine you made look good for someone in korea! Love the content, as always! :) btw, they should not melt, well at least not much. Melted cheese on poutine isn't poutine. you have so much variant of poutine here, like onion and beef, chicken and green peas(galvaude), bacon and maple syrup and for the sauce there always 2 type, original gravy like u had and BBQ ( a bit more like salty and sugary).
You should look into buying an air fryer. I bought one to make healthier versions of fried foods but it ended up only being used to refry and heat up food i get delivered and it makes the food taste exactly like it just came out of the fryer at the restaurant.
You should have melted it under the broiler for a minute or two so the curds would melt onto the fries. I’ve wanted to try authentic poutine for a long time, too. I’m from Long Island, NY and we basically have a diner on every other block haha. I grew up eating French fries with melted mozzarella cheese and gravy at our local diner. I love it, but I still fancy trying poutine.
You should layer the cheese next time ! Also if the fries are fresh/ super hot , and if you had more gravy (and it was a bit thicker) the cheese would melt & ughhhh it’s literally the best when it melts
yeah, if it was all hot, then you would mix it all together, which would melt the cheese curds into the fries, and cause them to stretch like pizza cheese. That's the best :) Cheers from Toronto! ;)
Real/traditional cheese curds are not meant to melt (at least, not very much). Some restaurants occasionally use mozzarella instead (or alongside) of cheese curds for that melty stretchiness. I like both versions, but non-melty cheese curds tends to be more common.
thank you! i thought i was the only one who knew this. real cheese curds dont actually melt. if they do then its not a real curd. cheese curds technically arent real cheese. its the curds in the process of making cheese
I'm from Quebec (where poutine was invented). Those cheese curds look kinda sus haha. But the poutine overall doesn't look too bad. Wish you could try an authentic one from here. Cheers !
I believe the cheese curds are supposed to be squeaky according to my Canadian (Montreal) friends. For the record, I think using other types of cheese (melty also) with gravy on fries is called Disco Fries. That's a East Coast USA (New Jersey thing). All in all, Cheese, gravy and fries is a winning combo.
Canadian here, I’m impressed that you got yourself real curds for your poutine but if you do a round 2 make sure your fries are piping hot, maybe fry them yourself or in the oven idk, then the same for your gravy. Make sure it’s piping hot and you’ll need more for that amount of fries. I’d also recommend a higher sided bowl or container to contain the gravy and curds. The curds should melt more yes for best experience imo.
Here in Canada you can get some poutines that are amazing and there are lots of places where you can go and get almost anything on them and what makes a poutine really good is a nice dark rich gravy slightly on the thicker side with proper cheese curds and some good fries! Poutines are very versatile! Great video that poutine looked tasty!
If you ever reach Montreal Quebec, hit up La Banquise. Its the go to spot for a lot of people, they make anything from the reg poutine to the crazy toppings stuff.
A good poutine has a hot bed of crispy fries interspersed with delightful morsels of cheese curds, all drenched with a deep and robust gravy. Diving in to this original combination for a poutine will give you alternating mouthfuls of crispy fries with chunks of intact and squeaky vs melty and stringy morsels of gravy-laden curds! Truly a culinary trifecta!
As a Canadian who has had his fair share of Poutines I have to say, cheese curds are not the best by themselves. In fact, I actually don't even really like cheese curds. But when you throw them into the Poutine it's damn good. Great reaction as always Ben!!!
Mmm are you from Quebec or in part of Ontario where they have fresh cheese curds? The curds cannot be refrigerated and have to be eaten the same day. Most Canadians don’t have access to fresh cheese curds.
I’ll give you props for this, I’m from Quebec and this actually is a real poutine, all of these reviews and mukbangs on fake poutine have triggered me, but as always, bendeen is a real one (edit : also, i prefer when the curds dont melt)
Curds are supposed to be a little melty but the time frame from it being melty and it going solid is quite fast since the curds cool off quite fast. I think theres a chain in Canada actually that does the thing you're talking about, they make poutines and you can choose additional toppings. I forget the name though. You can even get it with butter chicken style.
Yo Ben love the videos man I live up as far north as you can go in NY on the Ontario Canada border I eat poutine about everyday at my sons hockey haha , you gotta throw that all in the oven and heat it and get it all melted !! Every bite should be stringing cheese my guy !
Idk about Korean delivery services, but in America people can accept several deliveries at once, and then they drop stuff off along their way to other ones. Maybe someone at the mall ordered lunch?
they do deliver stuff from malls too here in Korea so maybe someone else ordered their months worth of groceries and the fries ended up being delivered together idk

Even though it’s only three ingredients, the perfect poutine requires each part to be perfect otherwise it’s just not good. Hand cut fries, delicious gravy and squeaky cheese. We have joints that specifically just sell poutine and they’ll top it with different toppings, e.g. shawarma, jerk chicken, Philly cheesesteak, etc. Or, you just get the original.
your gravy and fries have to be piping hot to melt the cheese and you wanna put them in something with a deep bottom like a bowl or fry box so that the gravy and fries create stream to melt the cheese too and enough gravy for the bottom layer to be justtttt a little soggy :) but looks yummy.
There a pizza place near me that makes a damn good poutiine. They don't use cheese curds but there mozzarella is top tier and their gravy is superior. Glad it worded out somewhat for you. Just remembered I have some mozzarella, and potoes in the house.....I'm making poutine tonight. Thanks for the inspo Ben!
Having traveled all across the Great White North for work, more often than not, the cheese curds will not melt (at least not in the conventional sense like you would have with nacho cheese). While I suppose I am a bit of a traditionalist and prefer classic poutine without toppings, BBQ pulled pork, bacon and chives are all fantastic additions.
@@JohnHausser it is the same and this is coming from an Armenian. Turkish Kebob and Persian and Armenian more or less are all the same… if you think there’s that big a difference you’re dumb
We sell cheese curds where I work! :] They're pretty good imo but not really once they're cold 😭 I don't eat them that often but they're pretty popular... some people dip them in caramel though, it's weird 😭😭😭
There's a poutine place in New West, B.C, Canada that sells one with grilled kimchi, chives, and chipotle mayo and the classic poutine ingredients. Top level
First time I ever tried poutine it was a life changing experience... The fries, the short rib gravy, the curds.. everything was so good. And then the pandemic happened and the restaurant closed, never to eat poutine since... 😭

I think theres a chain in Canada actually that does the thing you're talking about, they make poutines and you can choose additional toppings. I forget the name though. You can even get it with butter chicken style.
smoke's poutinerie?

Like MRE meals?
That ending lmao
There a pizza place near me that makes a damn good poutiine. They don't use cheese curds but there mozzarella is top tier and their gravy is superior. Glad it worded out somewhat for you. Just remembered I have some mozzarella, and potoes in the house.....I'm making poutine tonight. Thanks for the inspo Ben!
I really think poutine would be a very popular street food item in South Korea, it's so tasty
the best cheese is from Quebec where the poutine is really come from!! try itttt!
You should really try Iranian Koobideh if it's possible to obtain them, any authentic Iranian food, you will love it

@@Elatenl some seasonings are probably different but it’s more or less the same, it’s like different types of pizza from around the world
Are you ok out there ? 🇮🇷
Cheers from San Diego California 🇺🇸
@@JohnHausser it is the same and this is coming from an Armenian. Turkish Kebob and Persian and Armenian more or less are all the same… if you think there’s that big a difference you’re dumb
Please do another beans on toast video! (With grated cheddar!) B’deens on toast
first time i ever tried poutine was in a chalet after skiing all morning in ontario, canada in elementary school ... life changer
I’ve always wanted to try poutine. I’m sure it’s delicious!
I should make my own too. I tried poutine at 2 spots in Vancouver and it was so painfully salty.
Top level
If you want I’ll send you some Wisconsin cheese curds. You’d have to cover them and shipping but they’re made fresh daily
I’m glad you found it!
I think I may send u some cheese curds from Wisconsin someday, I'm in mn. But it's true Wisconsin has the most delectable cheese 🧀.
I can't believe he didn't broil the fries with the curds for a couple minutes. Melt em baby.
First time I ever tried poutine it was a life changing experience... The fries, the short rib gravy, the curds.. everything was so good. And then the pandemic happened and the restaurant closed, never to eat poutine since... 😭
Ben's prob gonna do a food review on the delivery guy next
