      Hey Jake! Thanks for checking in with a note of confidence 👍 it's on the list. but a heads up on this one. it isn't going to give you anything the previous models haven't. It's a nice drum and I'm happy to see TAMA re-release it but again, ultimately. there is no magic in this particular model. just some cool features. it's a collector's piece and because I have a fairly harsh judgment of review, I'm gunna delay my review. as I don't want potential sales of this drum to be affected in a negative way...same for the Zildjian. @@CiaoGibson

    I was more so into the playing than the product!! I’d study drums with Nick D. in a heartbeat!! 😊 Now that I got that off my chest, TAMA hit a home run with this 50th Anniversary offering!! I used TAMA hardware and drums from 1977 to 1997. A return to what put them on the map in the first place let’s me reminisce of my younger days and the excitement in the world of drums, the technique behind it and the artists that inspired me!! FINALLY! a Sweetwater drum demo video that doesn’t sound terrible! Most previous SW drum demo videos are so gated, muted, muffled, or the music is louder than whatever is being demoed that they were unwatchable. WHO made this change?! GIVE THEM A RAISE! It’s like someone has been watching videos from Drum Center of Portsmouth and figured out how drums are supposed to sound. Nick knows his stuff and sounds great as always.

    • @eggysauce
      @eggysauce 6 месяцев назад +9

      It's because of what it was known to be used on. Metallica's Black Album, Nirvana's Nevermind, the list goes on. It's dense, musical and powerful sound was perfect for hard hittng songs. The snare was expensive even in the 80's.
      Gretsch's USA bell brass goes for around $700 and can get a similar tone. But something about the TAMA has that tonal quality.

    • @drumrnva

      Companies that enjoy consumer loyalty will often charge the highest price that the market will bear. You're not willing to pay the price for this drum. Neither am I. But other folks will pay it. Tama's marketing folks surely came to this price after considerable research.

    • @drumrnva
      @drumrnva 6 месяцев назад +3

      @@eggysauce FWIW, I read recently that the snare sounds on Nevermind were subtley augmented with samples....so it's debateable whether what we're hearing is the true sound of the BB snare.

      @micah_drums 6 месяцев назад +3

      Collectors pay tens of thousands of dollars for the original version of this drum, so $4000 is a pretty steep discount. It’s also made from a specialized cast bronze alloy, which is far more expensive and sophisticated to make than other metal snares, so this is actually a pretty fair price for the instrument.

      The tooling to cast one piece can be $50k, when you have to make all the parts to make it just like the original that's not cheap. Its not like its just using Tamas existing parts.

  • @toothnail605

    Only *you* can answer this question [and I'm not being a smart arse.] Does the Tama snare sound 3,300.00 better than the Ludwig 402?? Or you pick a fave snare drum or your choice... So if you answered yes it does sound better, cool/fair enough; but how much money wise 3,300.00 or maybe just 300.00 better than one of your favorite snare drums. Only *you* can make that decision. That's the way I personally buy my drums. If a 3 pack set is 2k - 4k more than my new retailed Ludwigs, I ask myself does it really sound 2k or lol 4k better? That Tama Bell Brass IS amazing, but 3k $$ more amazing...? Lol "You Make The Call."

    • @jasonb2180
      @jasonb2180 6 месяцев назад

      I know that there are a few folks out there who can justify the cost. But, not sure that it is always a cost-benefit of better sound versus cost. Some people have the means to collect gear just to collect it (sounds nice!!), some likely may have had a Tama Bell Brass/Bronze fixation that will get satisfied with this snare, some might see it as an investment (though the DCP video made it sound like this is not a limited-edition item, which may reduce collectability somewhat). I tend to gasp when it comes to gear this costly, but I know I have splurged on concert tickets when some people may have asked "is it THAT MUCH better to be in the front row?" To me, it was, but I pick my spots. I am amazed at how much gear prices are rising, and I assume that there are enough people out paying these prices to have it makes sense for the companies. When Sabian put out a $900 ride last year (I think it was last year ...), I was shocked. But, they sold a bunch of them. I used to think that a $350 ride was pricey, and now so many of them are $550-600. Amazing. But, if the market is there, I guess we will keep going up.

      This drum has the nostalgia, collectibility factor to it. It most likely will retain it value and perhaps gain value with time. There are many, many snare drums at a fraction of the cost of this snare that can equal in sound and quality, but in most cases won't hold the value of a snare like this.

    • @toothnail605
      @toothnail605 5 месяцев назад

      @@clifffitch8495 Yes I agree, and nostalgia and collectibility comes in many different forms. I've been surfing for decades, with certain surfboards - ya got nostalgia, collectibility and of coarse the good o'l bragging rights, lol but many (not all) of said boards ride horrible in fact if the waves are 'on' and it's a special/great day with amazing conditions you don't grab the one that's *worth the most; you grab -- or at least I grab the one that's `best for the job/conditions.
      And what I just said applies to everyone differently. Tama fans are more inclined and drawn in to purchase the drum, non Tama fans are like, "yeah it sounds good, BUT FOR 3K...?! " Peace
