I don't think you need to justify looking at alternative models by referring to GW's staggered release strategy, and underestimation of demand. If people see designs from other designers that they like more than the GW designs then I think that's great, and the more model designers who get sales and thrive then the better.
I did spend quite a bit of time considering the pseudo-Vampire Counts designs from Highland Miniatures, and some Egyptian-style Undead from another designer - possibly one page rules. However, I took a test print STL from one page rules to my local library, and in the end I decided that I didn't want to deal with resin models, and I enjoy the process of putting together hard plastic models, and the opportunities for making really easy minor conversions that provides.
But the designs look really great, and I can't wait to see armies of many of them in person.

Highlands make amazing mini STLs, I recommend getting their Gallians (Bretonnians) at 95% on foot, and 95 to 100% on horse to match the new minis (I have all the new BSBs and have compared their sizes - 100% if you don't want the BSB to stand out)

The Bretonnians shown here in the video are nowhere close to GW! Most other are fine or ok but the Bretonnians look underwhelming

@@fckprc8149 He's showing the old range, if you check back now, the current selection are great and work really well alongside official GW, from 5th/6th edition especially, but also the newer ones. They don't match the GW plastic foot knights, but those look... different (trying to be polite), but the forge world ones and highlands when painted match, so long as you get the scales similar

I actually hadn't spotted there was a range update. Good to know so many thanks for pointing that out

I did buy the Bretonnian starter army from GW which seemed to be more reasonably priced. However, GWs Grail Knights, Mounted Yeomen, and other figures have been sold old. So I bought 10 Highland Miniatures Royal Knights instead for less than $60 US - the cost of 3 from GW. The quality is reasonable. I have ordered some mounted sergeants to use as yeomen and some Sunland knights for Empire Knights. Have not seen those yet so cannot comment.

Nice to see videos on alternative models. Are you planning to cover Wargames Atlantic (both plastic and STL offerings) and Fireforge Games (which have both Dwarfs and Bretonnian proxy options)?

I might cover the models in the future but don't have experience of the STLs so wouldn't talk about them. The alternative models videos have been a mixed bag in terms of success so I can't say I'll make loads more of them

the dwarfs are great, if you want them at the lore freidnly height dont reduce them, if you want them too small like the actual oldhammer dwarfs are then reduce them

from my exsperience printing models from highland, I wouldn't recomend using them for whbf, along side 28mm scale. If you want to scale and support the models yourself, I think they are great, however since they to not provide an actual project file for you to work with, you have to support them by hand, instead of editing pre existing supports, which is far to tedious for me. honestly, I'm just waiting for EmanG to support more of his range on patreon.

For Orcs and Goblins; 28 or 32mm?

28mm makes them scale towards old hammer. 32mm feels too big imo

Normally, I wouldn't advise promoting third party manufactures. Those who are interested in cheaper alternatives will no doubt seek them out. Warhammer will succeed or fail on sales alone. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks of the game or how many games we are playing in our basements; if the "official" miniatures don't sell the game will be deemed a failure and it will suffer the same sad fate as before, except they will not bother to give it another ignominious sendoff - it will simply fade away. Having said that, GW have made buying their miniatures as difficult as possible. The old metal miniatures sold out in minutes of launch, and the plastic ones are also in short supply. This is sad as I really do want to see the game thrive.

He’s not promoting them for the sake of saving money. You’re right… if that’s someone’s top priority, then they will seek them out anyway.
He’s just reviewing them for anyone already in the market for 3rd party options. That’s pretty helpful.

    • @NoiselessShadow

It advertises the miniature as alternatives to GW's and fosters a culture of buying proxies. The main reason for changing the designs in 2015 of Citadel's fantasy miniatures was to move away from those that could be easily copied and sold by third party manufacturers. This was a critical factor in their cancelling the game back then. I don't want to see it die a second death. @@jlozano2615

Depends what army you want. GW said they aren’t going ti support legacy beyond the rulebook, so for those 6 or 7 armies, knock yourself out I say.

Sady, you are right. But supporting the core factions is strangely the best way to ensure the return of the legacy factions.@@andrewj1754

If I can’t enter the hobby for less than AUD$490 I just won’t enter the hobby. The manufactured scarcity will kill the game before some indie designers making their own models will. People can make their own rules updates and miniature designs so the game can live forever with or without games workshop
