My teacher tried to pile on Light Dependant Reactions, The Calvin Cycle, Glycolysis, Fermentation, The Krebs Cycle, and the Electron Transport Chain ALL IN TWO WEEKS. I didn't retain any of it, and now there's a test on all of it tomorrow, but thanks to you I think I can manage! Thank you so much!
I love you. You make my life a lot more pleasant. And seriously, you're the best teacher I've ever had, even though we've never even met in person. Thank you so much for existing and doing what you do!!
Sir, you have just saved me from failing cell biology and in turn possibly dropping out of university. Please, keep making your videos and I will definitely share this with my friends. In all honesty, you have taught this subject in the best way i have experienced. Thank you.
to study for my bio final a few weeks ago, instead of reading over my notes and such, I watched your videos on my topic. got a 97%. came back to share this success story.
Amazing. Finally, education is adapting to the student and the student is utilizing computers and the internet, not an overpriced book, an uncomfortable desk, and a boring teacher. Bravo and cheers my friend. These "free" videos are much better than any science class I had at my extremely expensive four year college.
I've never made a comment on youtube but I had to. This video is so good...I kept waiting for him to start explaining the Calvin cycle and when he was like, "and that's the Calvin Cycle." I'm like wow...I never learned something so easily before
I honestly don’t comment that often on videos but Khan academy has helped me so much with my studies, way better than my teachers do. And this does not only apply to biology but also how great you are at explaining other subjects concepts as well. Thank you for saving our mental health a day before our exams, I will never be able to thank you enough 🙏
BitterSweetNitemare i feel the same... it all started when i was looking for videos on the krebs cycle... i could never get my head around it... but this guy explained it so well... then a few videos down the line led me here, and for the first time in my life i have a decent understand on the subject :) amazing
Words cannot express how grateful that I am for this video. I completely understand everything in my Honors Bio class! Keep making these videos because I know that I am not the only one affected by these. Thanks again!
Got my final exam on Monday... should've started watching these videos after the first lecture. These videos are so much clearer than any lecture I've had all year.
Also, Rubisco stands for RibUlose 1,5 BISphosphatase Carboxylase/Oxygenase. If you are asked about photorespiration, it occurs when rubisco (which is a very inefficient enzyme) binds Oxygen instead, which occurs quite commonly.
you're incredibly talented at explaining seemingly difficult concepts. thank you so much for applying your talents like this, and for choosing to help so many people throughout their journeys toward knowledge. :)
As someone studying Biology from home out of a huge folder with no tutor to help, this is a God send! Thank you so much for doing what you do you beautiful man, you!
Out of the thousands of videos I've looked for in order to get some understanding (book & proffesor are not doing it for me) YOU have been the biggest help!! Thank you a million times!!! :D
Thank you. I've got my test tomorrow, and I'm watching this videos over and over again, with my biology book on my knees, trying to translate everything properly ^^ But I think I get it! Thank you very much for help! Greetings from Poland :)
I got a Biology exam tomorrow, I spent over hours to figure out the cellular respiration. Finally I spent around 30 minutes to watch the whole series of it in yous channel, and I get it now. Sad that my teacher sucks in explaining.
thank you for all the photosynthesis and cellular respiration processes videos!!! It really helped me from failing finals. To be honest, I couldn't understand what my biology teacher is teaching at all. Maybe it's just me, who knows. These videos taught me more than my biology teacher teaching in one semester. Big thanks to you sir Khan!!! Thanks for giving all of us knowledge!!!
Thank you! I missed my bio teacher's lecture last Wednesday on the Calvin Cycle, so this really helped, I've watched it about 4 times and taken notes off it, thank you!
The reason that they are so long is because he explains things in sufficient detail to give the viewer a full understanding of whatever is being covered; not just surface-level knowledge.
Guys there is a video missing, which comes after 'photosynthesis: light reactions 1' but before this one, if you want to look at everything in order. The missing video is about cyclic and non-cyclic photophosphorylation, which is pretty important. Just search 'Photosynthesis: Light Reactions and Photophosphorylation'
im in unimelb year one, thank you so much for your help. your interpretation is lucid and very very clear. it answers all my question that the book did not tell. thank you so so so so so so much! i love you
Really great movie! Explains it very well, however in my book of plant physiology it is said that: "The traditional view of the PCR cycle was that it did not require the direct input of light. These reactions were consequently referred to as "dark reactions" of photosynthesis. In the view of the fact that at least five critical enzymes in the cycle require light activation, such a designation is clearly not appropriate." "These include glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-3-PDH), fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (FBPase), sedoheptulose-1,7-bisphosphatase (SBPase) and ribulose-5-phosphate kinase (R-5P-K)" It's a small, and not so important thing for everyday RUclipsrs, but maybe important so someone :) Keep up the good work!
thank you soooooo much. i love this set of vedeos. i feel lucky cuz i foung this accidently. however now i don't have to worry about biology since there is the khan academy. thanks a lot. this is really helpful and very interesting to learn.
your videos are really helping me out to understand photosynthesis much better! being a private candidate and studying from homem you are like my personal tutor! thanks !
Omg thank you!! I'm not even English but through you fantastic explanation I finally understand the Calvin-Cycle I was so confused with the Reduction-part ^^ Greets from Germany
Before Khan academy I was sincerely convinced I would not even pass AP Bio. Now I'm starting to believe I may be able to achieve a B. Thank you Khan Academy!!!
I understood in this photosynthesis videos what I didn't in two 2 hours lessons. Either I am getting smarter at an exponential rate or Khan is absolutely amazing at explaining things. I would love for it to be the first option but... Oh well.
THANK YOU SO MUCH I WAS STUDYING AND HAD ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING ON SO I WAS PANICKING BECAUSE I HAVE A TEST TOMORROW BUT THEN I FOUND THESE AND NOW I UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING AND IM SO HAPPY THANK YOU
OMG thankyou, my friend and i have to make a project on photosynthisis and i had no idea how any of this worked cuz our ap bio teacher sucks and this has been SO HELPFUL. thankyou. :)
Me too. But with a lot more details, like a l o t . But i seriouslly believe that knowledge is about building on a strong base, so prefer to watch these videos first to learn the main structure and then delve into !
I knoww what you mean, however maybe people will see this potential and in future our lectures will be in this format, i find them much easier to learn from, although a great deal of it is down to Sal's teaching skill.
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!! i have a bio exam tomorrow and i did not get it when my bio teacher taught it. thanks to you im gonna pass (at least the parts you taught me :P)

the photosynthesis that I learned in my childhood just became a nightmare 🙂
to study for my bio final a few weeks ago, instead of reading over my notes and such, I watched your videos on my topic. got a 97%. came back to share this success story.
fun drinking game: every time he says dark reaction doesnt occur in the dark throughout all of his photosynthesis videos
ooooh, bad idea!
Amazing. Finally, education is adapting to the student and the student is utilizing computers and the internet, not an overpriced book, an uncomfortable desk, and a boring teacher. Bravo and cheers my friend. These "free" videos are much better than any science class I had at my extremely expensive four year college.
does anyone else wonder how Sal Khan knows everything about every subject in the universe🤔
Cuz he graduated from both Harvard and MIT!!
I wish who ever narrates these videos would be my teacher for every class he makes hard topics easy to learn!
My biology prof is going to be so pissed once he finds out I've been cheating on him...
I've never made a comment on youtube but I had to. This video is so good...I kept waiting for him to start explaining the Calvin cycle and when he was like, "and that's the Calvin Cycle." I'm like wow...I never learned something so easily before

this is so very helpful, especially with studying for finals this week. you seem to have a gift of making things seem simpler than they are.
I was just reading this and its crazy how this is 11 years ago and I’m guessing u work in the medical field now.
