I am just starting an adventure with this wonderful course. I will try to be a child. Thank you for being able to learn from a Master. Thank you for the knowledge and experience.

Interesting take by Sietze, that the route to learning to improvise is to learn to "play" the instrument before ever learning to read a score. This reflects my own experience where I started by listening to the hymns in church and then tried to duplicate what I heard on the reed organ at home. (Every Dutch family in Canada had one) I still recall that "Jesus lover of my soul" was my first successful attempt and then I broadened out from there. Eventually I started to connect the dots and sort of figured out what the symbols in a score were telling me. I did eventually take "proper" organ lessons which opened the door to Bach at which point there was no holding me back. But the side effect of learning to play this way is that I can still harmonize any melody by ear and can "noodle" away for hours (I wouldn't call it improvising) which I delighted in doing as a teenager and to this day.
I can’t believe I am watching this! For so long I can only heard master ‘s improvisation but never have the Chance to hear his explanation on improvisation(perhaps he did it in Dutch?) now today I have this honor to see his church base, all these different instruments and most importantly his introduction on improvisation! I am so glad that Score dependent hobbiest like me can start to play something by heart! I tried the triad chord method immediately on my personal favorite tune “nun komm der Heiden hailand” , I love it so much! Thank you sir! Please keep putting more of these videos!
I am quite envious of you for being able to buy a church and have not just one, but several actual organs in it as well as lots of other musical instruments, all for your own personal use. Thank you for this video series.
What a breath of fresh air! I have long believed that the "see ink blob - put down certain fingers" was the wrong approach to teaching music. I taught instrumental music in public schools for many years and found it more effective to introduce musical concepts, including creating your own melodies, first and keeping notation for later. I wanted my pupils to understand that ink blobs were simply a way to send someone a letter about their music. Ink blobs are never music in and of themselves.
Thank you Maestro - that was a revelation and it supports a gut feeling I had from an early age but which was, unfortunately, supresed by well-meaning parents and music teachers who wanted me to "learn music" first and not commit the crime of playing by ear. "Playing by ear (improvising) is lazy because you can't make any mistakes!" Col, 73, NZ
I'm exactly in the situation that you describe, having beeing taught with scores only as a child. Thanks a lot for this lesson. It contains enough practise for a full week of discovery on the keyboard. Now, let's have fun !
Hello. I think Sietze would approve of a book called 'Sketching at the Keyboard' by Laura Campbell for teaching students. It uses simple children's songs & folk songs. First the student creates simple interest with register changes, then doubling in octaves with register changes, then harmonizing with tonic 5ths in left hand (rhythmically, drone like), then tonic & dominant 5ths, then subdominant, and so on, then these while doubling melody with 3rds & 6ths with right hand forming chords contrapuntally. This teaches the 'hollow' sound of parallel 5ths before they would be traditionally 'forbidden' (without an understanding of why they can undermine individuality of parts). There are two other supplimentary books 'Sketches for Improvisation', 'Further Sketches for Improvisation'.
What happened to the little organ that stood in the corner where the Scottish chamber organ is now? You have a lovely room and collection of instruments. Sietze, and your improvisations are such an inspiration. Thank you for this very interesting video!

So very glad to see that you have started this much-needed series!

Thank you for sharing your talents with the mortals.

Thank you so much, Sietze, I'm looking forward going through the series!
Thank you Sietze for sharing your knowledge about improvisation :)!!! It's giving me new inspirations and fun with my improvisation.

Thanks for starting this series on learning to improvise Sietze! Hopefully it will help more people to unveil the mysteries of 🎶 making.

This is exactly what I have been hoping for. Hartelijk bedankt!
This is really great. And what an extraordinary collection of instruments!
Merci...Merci...et MERCI. I have got the impression that you must be quite a teacher! Bravo! And that house/church WOW! A wealth of surprises!
Brilliant to see this. It’s great you’re doing this - I can’t think of anyone better to do it! Every success with it

Wow your church is amazing, it is nice to gather all these instruments. Thanks for sharing

Wunderbar! Ich freue mich jetzt bereits sehr auf die Folge 2
Vielen vielen Dank! Sehr gute Idee diese Serie! Bin schon auf die Fortsetzung gespannt. Gruß aus Deutschland
Very informative, all makes sense, thank you
Super bedankt voor deze geweldige uitleg! Ik improviseer er maar wat op los en snap eigenlijk nooit wat ik precies doe :)
The Orff Approach to Music provides the framework to improvisation.
Genial! Vielen Dank!
Merci, monsieur
Thank you for this!
"Three chords and the truth!" as they say in folk music

You have a lovely room and collection of instruments. Sietze, and your improvisations are such an inspiration. Thank you for this very interesting video!
it moved temporarily to another room.
Thanks, Sietze, excellent! :)
Great place for a great musician! You should come and visit my church... (yes we have that in common).
Do you also make videos on the organ like Sietze?
I am also guilty of being score-dependent!
Wanneer komt deel 2? Ben er klaar voor :)
Elke 14 dagen een nieuwe video. De patrons krijgen het wat eerder.
@@sietzedevries6159 posso chiedere maestro, farà mai un video sul ricercare rinascimentale?
