Joel, I'm from the old South also, the more you eat the more we love you because you are letting us know you enjoyed our food!!! 🙋🙋🙋 My mom would of cooked as long as you could have eaten 🙂😉🙂
Mine too. From McCreary County( Ky, 1 1/2 hours from where he ate). She would cook him a meal he would never forget. So would I actually. Lol. She taught me everything she knew when I was a kid).
Talking about cottage cheese, my beautiful mother & I used to eat cottage cheese, tomato, cucumbers & crackers for lunch. British background. Thank you Joel for the reminder.
Meals enjoyed with loved ones in the past bring warm hearts to the present. I love making meals my grandmother used to give me as a kid. It’s more like food for the soul ♥️
My mom used to feed us cottage cheese and either pineapple, sliced peaches or fruit cocktail added to it. Sometimes she would add mini marshmallows to it just for a change of pace. Never any nuts though. I live in Vancouver B.C. by the way.
If anything his doing a video will promote the restaurant and create more custom for them, he certainly couldnt eat them out of business😂😂🤦♀️ hes good, he can eat ALOT but not that much.
It’s an all you can eat restaurant. He’s giving the business publicity. Also there was people there and it sounded busy when hearing people talk in the background so I don’t think they’re struggling.
The description of the cottage cheese dish reminds me of when I’ve had pistachio salad or aka Watergate salad. It’s light, not overly sweet and absolutely delicious!
Yes my family calls it Hawaiian salad but it has grapes and pineapple and no cottage cheese but there are many varieties of those sweet salads like that
Joel, that cucumber salad is very easy to make. Cucumbers, tomatoes, onions. Cover with apple cider vinegar, salt & pepper, then any other herbs or seasonings you might like, such as dill or celery seed. Let it sit in the fridge, stir it once in awhile, eat acter at least 24 hrs. It will keep for several weeks.
In our family we make a cottage cheese, strawberry jello mix, miniature marshmallows, strained shredded pineapple and a tub of cool whip.. give it a mix . boom
The marshmallow, pineapple, pecan stuff is called ambrosia. It's a southern thing. Thry make it with jello powder and sometimes you add coconut flakes.
Watergate salad I don’t believe uses cottage cheese. It’s whipped topping, pistachio pudding plus the other ingredients he mentioned I stand corrected- apparently some areas add the cottage cheese. Who knew 😅
So, my mom and grandma Johnson are from Canada. I grew up in Utah but now in Alaska. Grama made the best Cottage cheese, marshmallow, mandarin oranges, whipped heavy cream, coconut and orange jello salad. It was stupid good!!!
Love watching you and Raina. Glad to see you in Tennesse. It's not pork and beans. They are great northern beans and we call them white beans here in Tennessee. Keep the videos coming.
That pickled green bean salad is called three bean salad. Glad you enjoyed our food! and the cottage cheese dish looks like a play on the southern pistachio salad. Never had it with cottage cheese but it seem similar.
The cottage cheese, marshmallows and pecans, etc is called ambrosia salad. Sometimes it will have pineapple and Mandarin oranges and coconut flakes as well.
Honestly Joel, why do you do this to me??? Never fails, everytime I'm working out about to work out or just finished you post something that looks super delicious!!! Be safe and enjoy my food buddy!!! 🥰🥰🥰
I can cook any kind of southern food you would ever want. Among many other cuisines as well! But my heart belongs to the south. ❤️ Carolina girl, born and bred. The chicken is made like that without an egg wash before you flour it. So with crispy friend chicken you dip it in an egg wash, that is if it has not been buttermilk soaked, anyway, you dip them in the egg wash , then dip in flour. You get a thick crispy coating. However some southern cooks season their flour really well. Then just take the chicken and shake it in that only. Then fry it. When you do it that way you get the thinner more uniform crust.
What kind of soul food place is this? Where is the mac n cheese, yams, greens, cabbage, black eye peas, peach cobbler, banana pudding, caramel cake, choc cake, dressing, bbq, short ribs, muffins? I never seen anything cottage cheese at any black soul food place lol.Oh its a southern place not soul food lol.I see.
Watergate Salad ...... 1 (8 oz) carton of cool whip, thawed 1/2 cup sweetened coconut flakes (optional) 1 (12 oz) cottage cheese 1 (3.4 oz) pkg. pistachio instant pudding mix 1 (8 oz) can crushed pineapple (juice & all) 1 (11 ounce) can mandarin oranges (drained) 1 cup miniature marshmallows This recipe is sooooo good even those that don't eat lbs of food normally will sit and eat lbs of this literally Ive seen it every time I make it. BTW I always make this recipe x4
My grandmother used to make me a similar sweet marshmallow salad for my birthday every year when i was younger but added mandarin oranges. Really yummy!
That moment when you taste something new and your eyes almost become incandescent, it's so unique to you and so satisfying. Most people agree about the sauces that are so hot that hot is all you can taste. Not good.
I grew up eating the cucumber salad, & the green bean salad. We also used to eat cottage cheese with fruit in it, peaches or pineapple, or grapes. Now I love my cottage cheese with tomatoes in it. Now fried chicken, our home made has a breading on it which was thicker & softer, not so crunchy. But the chicken flavor goes all the way through it. My family came from the south, and that is how I love to cook.
Do you not think maybe it would be a good idea to offer to pay double. During these difficult times most restaurants are struggling and having you come in and rip them off ain't helping. Just my thoughts
The cottage cheese salad was very popular in the 1960's. That and pears with mayo and cheddar cheese grated over the top with a cherry on the very top are my 2 favorite from that era.
I heard a joke from a comedian. He went into a buffet style restaurant and ate all their food and got kicked out. The owner of the restaurant said it was all you can eat not eat all you can. At the time it was funny
You need to come to Ball Play Alabama and try Beans and Greens! Nothing but the best! Then head to Tre’ Reggazi and take on their Calzone challenge.. Randy Santel did it!
They did the fried chicken right. That is how it is down here in the south to midsouth. Louisiana hot sauce probably would have kicked that fried okra up some as well. Good to see it was a great experience overall and not get cut off like some of those other places. Thanks for the review!
@@bcaye Actually he said, "I love spicy food. I love spice. I love sauces. I love hot sauces, that's why i love ketchup." So yes, while i understand there are other "spices," in this context he was seemingly referring to spicy food/sauces (like Louisiana Hot Sauce and other actually hot things).
Besides eating insane amounts of food, you have a great talent for reviewing foods and providing great descriptions of the flavors. Have you ever thought of trying to do a food blog like the one produced by Mark Weins or Luke Martin? Check out their RUclips channels if you never heard of them.
The pulled pork I cook is the best ever!!!!! Most everyone in my family says I make the best fried chicken. But I think KFC'S chicken is the best to me. The best seafood salad ever is at golden corral! Have you ever tried Valentino sauce?? It has a better flavor than the tobasco sauce and to me it's not that hot either just super tasty
I'm from Tennessee and that is usually how to soul chicken is cooked. I would recommend green bean Casarole or some southern fried cabbage with hog jaw black eyed peas
Another excellent video, the 3 bean salad sounds like what my mom used to make, my wife loves it ! I believe what you said about everything was great 👍 though there might be some colored greens to go with smorgasbord. 💂♂️🤠
The cottage cheese thing is a fluff. It can be like an ambrosia which sounds like what they have or orange or other flavors. In the south we have a lot of "salads" that are actually desserts. :)
If I open a buffet, I'm putting you on the Blacklist. LMAOOO you're a monster bro.
2 hour time limit for a reason
Truth
Lmaooooo
Fckd up part is, they throw it up after..!!
@Nadean Paul 😂😂
Joel, I'm from the old South also, the more you eat the more we love you because you are letting us know you enjoyed our food!!! 🙋🙋🙋 My mom would of cooked as long as you could have eaten 🙂😉🙂
Your mum sounds lovely,,love from England London ♥️
Mine too. From McCreary County( Ky, 1 1/2 hours from where he ate). She would cook him a meal he would never forget. So would I actually. Lol. She taught me everything she knew when I was a kid).
That sounds like my grandmother 👵 RIP 🙏
This is how my family cooks most the time. That is definitely soul food, but when you whipped out the louisiana hot sauce it was official.
Talking about cottage cheese, my beautiful mother & I used to eat cottage cheese, tomato, cucumbers & crackers for lunch. British background. Thank you Joel for the reminder.
Thanks for sharing!!

Love the way he respects the food and literally cleans each plate which is better than most at buffets leaving a ton behind.
The cottage cheese dish sounds like an ambrosia. My Oklahoma aunt used to make it with fruits, nuts, marshmallows, coconut and whipped topping.
Sounds great!
I love ambrosia. No marshmallows or coconut tho
While restaurants struggle to stay in business Joel's doing his best to eat them out of business.
L😂L
Oh my good ness
If anything his doing a video will promote the restaurant and create more custom for them, he certainly couldnt eat them out of business😂😂🤦♀️ hes good, he can eat ALOT but not that much.
Why so jealous!

You really are the best advertisement for any restaurant. You look like you enjoy the 10,000th bite as much as the first. Bravo!
I'm happy to see you loving soul food! My first comment to you was asking if you had tried soul food and you said no. Lol you can't get enough! 🤣
The description of the cottage cheese dish reminds me of when I’ve had pistachio salad or aka Watergate salad. It’s light, not overly sweet and absolutely delicious!
Yes my family calls it Hawaiian salad but it has grapes and pineapple and no cottage cheese but there are many varieties of those sweet salads like that
Made my day when you poured the hot sauce on the fish. 😋😂🤣
He need to back to canada aint even no soul food out there. Its BHM he hood now
he just said " theres a misconception that i dont like spicy food, but its notr true, i like spice and hot sauces .. LIKE KETCHUP and BBQ sauces" haha

Thanks for the tips! ill try
12 plates of food
“Only $14, so yeah I think it was worth it”
🤣
I think he need to go to the hood
The cottage cheese dish is called Ambrosia! Lots of variety in how it’s made, but definitely a yummy southern delight!
In our family we make a cottage cheese, strawberry jello mix, miniature marshmallows, strained shredded pineapple and a tub of cool whip.. give it a mix . boom
This is casual eating, and Joel still eats like he's in a challenge situation.
Very chill and well mannered guy! Respect from NY love your videos!
You make me so hungry every time! SHEESH! 🤣 Also i love the voice overs in the videos you do a great job. Super interactive. Much appreciated. 😌❤️
The marshmallow, pineapple, pecan stuff is called ambrosia. It's a southern thing. Thry make it with jello powder and sometimes you add coconut flakes.
That's Watergate salad. Popular dessert in the South
Is that kind of like ambrosia salad?
Watergate salad I don’t believe uses cottage cheese. It’s whipped topping, pistachio pudding plus the other ingredients he mentioned
I stand corrected- apparently some areas add the cottage cheese. Who knew 😅
Nothing normal is popular in the south
@@darrenrieger4343 You live in the South?
Love watergate salad
We had marshmallow salad all the time at church dinners growing up. Glad you enjoyed it!
Best thing about Joel, we can watch him eat a LOT and even dont panic about our stomach at all :3
very happy it was just you instead of a collab with raina, after i saw her. Great video and everything looked bomb
So, my mom and grandma Johnson are from Canada. I grew up in Utah but now in Alaska. Grama made the best Cottage cheese, marshmallow, mandarin oranges, whipped heavy cream, coconut and orange jello salad. It was stupid good!!!
yes
Ambrosia Salad is the name of the cottage cheese dish. Pretty common in the South. Love watching your channel!
That shit is everywhere! Get flashbacks of eating it with grandma. She put Mayo on it.
Love watching you and Raina. Glad to see you in Tennesse. It's not pork and beans. They are great northern beans and we call them white beans here in Tennessee. Keep the videos coming.
I don't know if this is a cultural thing but I grew up eating cottage cheese, pecans and peaches. I still love it.
Looks yummy! I liked how you described all the flavors in detail.
Thank you 😋
i just like how he can eat as much as i would like to eat, AND he has this passion for flavor which i can relate to
AMEN
Joel you looked like you were having a blast at that buffet! Thanks for sharing! 😊👍💕💕💕

I am a Southerner, so I know what I’m talking about!
PEACE! LOVE! HUGS!
Bro you’ve gotta throw that MoonPie in a microwave for like 10 to 15 seconds
I'm glad you said it I didn't use microwave I used a toaster oven but heat that deal up
Absolutely, the s'mores poptart is similar tasting to a moon pie so I'm surprised more people don't hear their moon pies up
That pickled green bean salad is called three bean salad. Glad you enjoyed our food! and the cottage cheese dish looks like a play on the southern pistachio salad. Never had it with cottage cheese but it seem similar.
The oil they cooked the chicken in is just old Joel lol
The cottage cheese, marshmallows and pecans, etc is called ambrosia salad. Sometimes it will have pineapple and Mandarin oranges and coconut flakes as well.
YUM
catfish is the best my dad used to go fishing and catch catfish when he cooked it, it was so crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside so good
Sounds great!
That couldn't have been a black soul food restaurant
Every church supper in th south has a salad with cottage cheese, marshmallows and usually nuts. Additions of jello and fruit vary
Honestly Joel, why do you do this to me??? Never fails, everytime I'm working out about to work out or just finished you post something that looks super delicious!!! Be safe and enjoy my food buddy!!! 🥰🥰🥰
THEY PROBABLY WENT BANKRUPT AFTER YOUR VISIT 😳😭🤣
Thanks for the uplifting broadcasts. We all sure need positive people 🔥🕯️🔥
Always! thanks for watching!
If you make a 4 or 5 course meal for your family of 5, this guy can come over and eat it all without anyone getting any food.
Fried chicken is probably soaked in buttermilk and hot sauce first then dipped in flour.
mayve!!

Love the test taste bite of meatloaf then he just puts the whole piece in
My grandmother always made a cottage cheese, mandarin oranges, and coconut concoction that was great
You should come down the Savannah/Pickwick TN area, we’re only 2 hours from Nashville. Great food and Food challenges!!!
Those white beans are great northern soup beans, okra with cat fish is yummy
Wow! Alfreda's Soul Food and This Is It Soul Food needs to do a buffet like this.

Watergate Salad ......
1 (8 oz) carton of cool whip, thawed

1 (12 oz) cottage cheese
1 (3.4 oz) pkg. pistachio instant pudding mix

Gosh. Cottage cheese salad always shows up at a family event here in Texas. Very old southern style stuff. All the food looked good.
