feels fine to me and movement is one of the first things I notice in games, vaulting can still be improved and you still get stuck on shit but not any more than bf4 or any other battlefield. BF 4 felt really janky and weird, the gun animations seemed to lag behind the actual movements, peoples heads bob around like fucking squirrels in 3rd person and everyone looks like they're on constant fast forward. And I came from the Quake, half-life 1, unreal tournament etc era. Animations in BF4 just don't look right at all.

the knife used to go straight through people in that game lol then theyd turn around and knife you. There was some weird technique where you could crouch before knifing and it'd go all commando pro for some reason.

At that point you're talking about a top down FPS RPG where you click your soldier and then click on an enemy soldier and hit the button for "shoot main weapon" spell. Makes me think of XCOM.
BC1's swipe mechanic was more fair and BF2's is my preferred as it's you poking them with the knife like you are actually stabbing them yourself and not some animation that has taken control of your character.

Will DICE LA be around for this game after launch? I haven't seen or heard any evidence to support this assumption. Also to Dinxsy in general I'll be surprised to see 60hz servers from the start on all RSPs because they still hadn't brought any of the RSPs into picture when the EA Play event was going on which is behind schedule going by previous releases and their timelines. At the very least I don't recall seeing a developer confirmation that default will be 60hz for any server.
Some of those melee kills remind me of the bug in Halo where you could melee, throw a grenade, and then immediately melee again, which would always kill someone if you put a few shots into them first.

Gunshots revealing your location was something added to the recent or "new Battlefield" games. So players accustomed to old Battlefield or a lot FPS games prior to that era welcome the return to sound whoring and understand mini-map awareness. For most the players that started with BF3 or recent Battlefield titles it should be like taking off the training wheels because they know what to look for on the mini-map so now when they hear gunshots on the other side of a wall and notice on the mini-map no friendly players on the other side they know it's an enemy without the need for it to display a 2D icon of the enemy player. Now if only we could chisel away at DICE's stubbornness with 3D spotting as well as get rid of Hardcore mode for a more unified community and gaming experience we'd have real progress made on something that a lot of gamers would appreciate even if they don't realize the reasons for why they would.
Melee lock-on animations should only occur a lot closer and be removed from front melee attacks, front 3/4 melee attacks and only work from the sides, rear 3/4 and rear of a player. OR. Melee lock-on animations do not work whatsoever on a moving / sprinting player, only if the player is stationary or slightly/ about to move. Also, the movement dose feel weird and sluggish especially when combining jumping and crouching in quick succession. I just hope that they really refine it and strike a balance that will cater both a natural more predictable looking movement while still being sharp, precise and responsive like the BF4 movement system without the exploits. Thoughts? P.S Great video as always Ravic.
Oh god, I remember playing Halo 4 back in the day. I would get the sword and call out to my team mates, "Samurai with a sword!" They would all leave my area and have me defend the point by myself. Constant switching between BR and sword and all the flanks. Good times.
To be honest, if you let someone get this close to you almost uncontested, you deserve to be melee'd. What's funny about this video is that everyone has the ability to do what Ravic is doing.
And here's me using the insta grenade reload to spam light AT nades at tanks, never thought to use the gas ones, looks way more fun. Is there a limit on how many can be active at once or can you spam to your heart's content?

Actually, it's double kill -> triple kill -> overkill -> killtacular. And the time taken between kill 3 and 4 was something like six seconds so you wouldn't have gotten an overkill since the dealy is four seconds. jk ily Ravic

For some reason I don't really see a problem with short range bayonets seeing as that's what they were made for - close combat where your rifle would be at a disadvantage. And all you gotta rally do to fix front melee is lengthen the time it takes to bring up your melee weapon instead of making it fucking instant on pressing your quick melee key.
Agreed. I also think bayonet charges should be able to be interrupted after a certain amount of damage is dealt. Kind of sucks drilling your enemy full of lead and then dying to their charge and seeing them have like 1-5 health. It feels like "what more am I supposed to do there?".
moonlitegram I honestly think that if you make the charge able to be cancelled by damage then they'd become useless. They are already a risk because you are forced to close distance to the enemy in a mostly straight line, meaning someone who can shoot at least somewhat well WILL gun you down.
That's a fair point. But I do think something has to be adjusted here. I saw lots of players abusing this by starting a bayonet charge immediately upon entering a door where the closing distance was non existent, leaving little option for the opposing player. Just seemed really cheesy and counter to promoting competition/interaction. Maybe it should be a key you have to hold down for a bit to engage. Or as you suggested with melee, maybe there should be some kind of animation delay before starting the charge which would at least give people in close quarters time to react.

Ravic just proved my greatest fear, Get a squad running medics and supports with gas? you could flood an entire area with gas. Just look at how much ravic is doing here add the rest of ravics squad and one area of the map now becomes a melee fest.
I think this is Ravic's way of telling Dice "NERF THE DAMN MELEE" EDIT: IMO all that needs to be done is plain and simple take away the non-behind/assassination animation melee kills. They're too easymode. Yes- you're going to one-shot them at that point anyways (at least I think that's the trigger) but it takes out the skill of hitting them as the range seems very wide. I personally have always hated how hard it is to hit people with melee in games and this might be to compensate for that, but honestly it's not the right solution.

You realize what that means though right? They are using the the terms "beta" and "alpha" as replacements for "demo" for legal reasons. If it was a real beta we would have been on the most recent build actually testing the game doing bug reports through a bug tracker that DICE developers would follow up. That means the "version way ahead of the beta" that they are working on is still filled with bugs, glitches, exploits that generally don't get found until the target audience gets a hold of it not to mention the massive unbalanced state of the game on release because they never fully tested gameplay with everything in the game available to all players. Of course this isn't news to anyone who has experience playing Battlefield or DICE games.
yeah melee take-downs seem a little overpowered. what do you think ravic? do you think they should remove it( which is unlikely) or just nerf it. for example 35 damage for heavy melees and 20 for knives. and since the bayonet charges seem to be the best way of taking down elite classes, bayonet charging point blank is not that bad after all.
Bayonet charging at such close range feels like one of the cheapest way to get kills in the game. There is no countering it at such close ranges and it can one shot a player. I have a clip saved where a player tries to melee me normally and doesn't kill me as I pass him and he passes me and even though on my screen it appears as though our player models are touching each other he still manages to bayonet charge me. Others could certainly make the argument that if they fix the soundstage then hearing those players approaching will make it easier to react and kill them before they get close enough however fixing the soundstage is not something DICE Sweden or LA has shown to be capable of as BF4's is still broken because of sound priority/queues. As for the rest of the melee nonsense if it wasn't clear in the video it's a joke. What they have in BF1 encourages so much "panic knifing" and why oh why does melee have aim assist again ( stronger than BC2's knifing aim assist ). So because I know they can't fix the sound especially with 64 player situations I'd prefer these kinds of melee take downs and abilities be more difficult to perform if not removed entirely. These are personal opinions though and while I think the melee combat has a negative impact on close quarters combat and encourages bad player behavior DICE might have their own justifications for implementing it and at the end of the day it's still their game.

They are gonna have to make some adjustments after the release.
I think the melee combat won't be as easy as it is in the beta. The build for the beta is 2 months old and they're constantly updating the main version of the game every day, multiple times. They're using our feed back from the beta and making the changes. So I wouldn't expect melee combat to be this easy in the full version

I think there should be a penalty for wearing the gas mask and continually running since running with a gas mask is not the easiest task in the world because of the shortage of oxygen that you can get through a gas mask especially when you're exerting effort like running. So maybe a cool down on the spring while wearing the gas mask and constant running? Or a loss of 2 health points every couple seconds? Just thinking out loud

There is a bug in beta making grenades instantly replenish which is why there is so much gas.
There willl be more elite classes added jn the future, so yeah they might add chemical warrior elite.
I imagine an armored tank sort of character who has a backpack that spews gas every where it goes

I honestly think that if you make the charge able to be cancelled by damage then they'd become useless. They are already a risk because you are forced to close distance to the enemy in a mostly straight line, meaning someone who can shoot at least somewhat well WILL gun you down.
That's a fair point. But I do think something has to be adjusted here. I saw lots of players abusing this by starting a bayonet charge immediately upon entering a door where the closing distance was non existent, leaving little option for the opposing player.
Just seemed really cheesy and counter to promoting competition/interaction.
Maybe it should be a key you have to hold down for a bit to engage. Or as you suggested with melee, maybe there should be some kind of animation delay before starting the charge which would at least give people in close quarters time to react.

yeah when I first read about bayonet charges I thought you'd have to sprint for at least 10m before it was an option to do, and not near instantly like now.
Using gas grenades as toxic cover with the mask and then melee killing them. Why haven't I thought of that?

Ravic just proved my greatest fear, Get a squad running medics and supports with gas? you could flood an entire area with gas. Just look at how much ravic is doing here add the rest of ravics squad and one area of the map now becomes a melee fest.

EDIT: IMO all that needs to be done is plain and simple take away the non-behind/assassination animation melee kills. They're too easymode. Yes- you're going to one-shot them at that point anyways (at least I think that's the trigger) but it takes out the skill of hitting them as the range seems very wide. I personally have always hated how hard it is to hit people with melee in games and this might be to compensate for that, but honestly it's not the right solution.

They're currently working on a version way ahead of the beta so I really don't know what you guys are talking about lmao
You realize what that means though right? They are using the the terms "beta" and "alpha" as replacements for "demo" for legal reasons. If it was a real beta we would have been on the most recent build actually testing the game doing bug reports through a bug tracker that DICE developers would follow up. That means the "version way ahead of the beta" that they are working on is still filled with bugs, glitches, exploits that generally don't get found until the target audience gets a hold of it not to mention the massive unbalanced state of the game on release because they never fully tested gameplay with everything in the game available to all players. Of course this isn't news to anyone who has experience playing Battlefield or DICE games.

yeah melee take-downs seem a little overpowered. what do you think ravic? do you think they should remove it( which is unlikely) or just nerf it. for example 35 damage for heavy melees and 20 for knives. and since the bayonet charges seem to be the best way of taking down elite classes, bayonet charging point blank is not that bad after all.
Bayonet charging at such close range feels like one of the cheapest way to get kills in the game. There is no countering it at such close ranges and it can one shot a player. I have a clip saved where a player tries to melee me normally and doesn't kill me as I pass him and he passes me and even though on my screen it appears as though our player models are touching each other he still manages to bayonet charge me. Others could certainly make the argument that if they fix the soundstage then hearing those players approaching will make it easier to react and kill them before they get close enough however fixing the soundstage is not something DICE Sweden or LA has shown to be capable of as BF4's is still broken because of sound priority/queues.
As for the rest of the melee nonsense if it wasn't clear in the video it's a joke. What they have in BF1 encourages so much "panic knifing" and why oh why does melee have aim assist again ( stronger than BC2's knifing aim assist ). So because I know they can't fix the sound especially with 64 player situations I'd prefer these kinds of melee take downs and abilities be more difficult to perform if not removed entirely. These are personal opinions though and while I think the melee combat has a negative impact on close quarters combat and encourages bad player behavior DICE might have their own justifications for implementing it and at the end of the day it's still their game.
***** I get what you are saying. I dont think they are gonna remove the melee takedowns since it seems like they worked on those animations a lot. They should implement something to force the players to think wise before taking down someone with melee weapons like maybe you should switch to your melee to use it just like in counter strike and nerf their damage models. they also should make bayonet charging take down activate two seconds after you committed a bayonet charge. however, I am pretty sure they are gonna have to do something about the melee combat in the game, because I can already see the community complaining about it. They are gonna have to make some adjustments after the release.

I think the melee combat won't be as easy as it is in the beta. The build for the beta is 2 months old and they're constantly updating the main version of the game every day, multiple times. They're using our feed back from the beta and making the changes. So I wouldn't expect melee combat to be this easy in the full version

So to clarify you expect the melee combat to not be as easy in the full version because a RUclipsr said they are taking feedback and making changes. Right so besides the fact that your source is a RUclipsr and not an actual developer working on the game you took his vague assumption that all feedback will be used to change things in the game as a reason for why you think melee will be different on release. Thanks just wanted to see if there was actual truth to what you said regarding melee combat. As far as your source though I wouldn't put much stock in someone who is constantly promoted on all of Battlefield's social media and uses footage from other people's videos without permission.

I think there should be a penalty for wearing the gas mask and continually running since running with a gas mask is not the easiest task in the world because of the shortage of oxygen that you can get through a gas mask especially when you're exerting effort like running. So maybe a cool down on the spring while wearing the gas mask and constant running? Or a loss of 2 health points every couple seconds? Just thinking out loud
