Filson Makinaw Cruisers!

Overview of the single and double filson Makinaw cruisers i have as well as going over differences in quality through the years of production.
The jackets are
Green - Makinaw cruiser L
Tight red check- Makinaw cruiser XL
Loose red check- Double Makinaw Cruiser 44
All great garment in any case just some interesting bits and odd points on some of them.

As far as I have learned, the sizing went to letters around 2002/2003. My recently purchased vintage double Mackinaw is from 1999 and has a numbered size.

Your double mackinaw size 44 was manufactured on January 1995 from the date code
the 90’s began, a new formatting was used which helps in identifying month and date of production as beneath the Style on the production tags a 4 digit identifier is added. Now, just to make it interesting, in the 90’s Filson formatted the 4 digit code so the first 2 digits indicated the year, while the two later digits indicated the month. For example a garment may have a 4 digit code of 9406 under the style code on the tag which would indicate that the garment was produced on June of 1994. As we enter the 2000’s, however, Filson changes it up yet again and reverses the order so that the first two digits represent the month and the numbers after that represent the year so a garment with the 0113 designation would be produced in January of 2013. Confused yet?

My 40/50s cruiser has black fabric under the pockets. The mackinaw fabric feels thinner maybe 24oz

Had a double Mac for years. Kept me warm. Classic look. Tough as nails. The only downside is the weight.

Ya weight is pretty high but for most things the weight is ok. Long distance hunting on the other hand haha.

I recently obtained one of these on Ebay. From what I've learned about deciphering label, I think it was made in 2012. But, the cuffs only have one button, not two like I expected. Any insight as to why?

I don't have a double mack but I just checked my 2018 buffalo check wool packer coat and the seam on the back is there! No triple layer of wool on the upper back like I thought. Kind of a disappointment. Anyways, nice video! I always hear people say that Filson is decreasing in quality but after seeing this, it seems like B.S (at least with the cruisers). Really like these videos! Looking forward to your tin cloth content.

The Double Mack was available until 2016 and was made in numerous plaids and solid colors. Black on color plaids, navy, gray, and all red Double Macks had black buttons. All Double Mack plaids throughout the years (until they were phased out) were wide and different from the single Mack Cruiser plaid. Numeric sizing was available in early 2010, when I bought my single Mackinaw Cruiser. Handwarmer pockets were introduced in the Sixties or early Seventies according to a friend who has been wearing Filson garments for 50 years.

They had double macks last year in 2019, and even 2020 if you count that one with the removable hood. Point being: they still make them, they weren’t discontinued in 2016.

I have a couple different sizes. My green one is a Large Seattle fit. And the other ones are large single mack in buffalo check, and the double mack is a xl
