Thank you for posting. I wanted to learn how to work on cars but became a nurse. Now I have more time I can do such things. I recently bought a convertible 1999 Boxster; fun/project car. It helps to have a video of steps. I learn better that way. What’s even better is my Porsche almost looks like yours. Ocean blue metallic. I will be watching closely since she is already needing much attention. Lol. Idling rough today. I guess the throttle body and maf will b my first task. Thanks again.
Thanks got the video! Followed your steps and got the job done. Few difference I noted on my US 2002 boxster 2.7 L: 1, I do not need security torx bit. It is a regular T20 bit for the MAF. 2, driving the car to operating temperature helped heat up the tubes and consequently it was easier to remove the throttle body.
Thank you for this video. You have saved me $ and aggravation by showing me how to fix my Boxster myself. Though I am not a mechanically gifted person I was able to fix the problem with my car.
Hey, 2001 986 here! I cant find a proper "throttle body cleaner" where I live but I see you have been using autoglym engine cleaner for the job, which I have access to. Is it safe to clean the throttle body with the autoglym product? What have your results been like long term? After researching a bit, it seems like the throttle body is very sensitive and it isnt advised to use other products, like carb spray or break cleaner, because they could damage some sort of coating and cause a rough idle... Im not super experienced and wanted to DIY this as my first project, so Im a bit hesitant. Best regards!
My 2.7 has picked up a miss fire/rough idel I've replaced plugs, coil packs air filter and maf sensor hoping this would cure it but to no avail, it's a 2001 model with low milage 50,000 i have owned the car for 10 years and it stood for long periods and last year only covered 200 miles. In uour opinion what would be the next item to check? Thanks
Having a nasty time getting the metal throttle body to attach back to the plastic that you pushed off with a screwdriver on the video. Any advice (from anyone?). Appreciate it!
Hi, I've used all your instructions and cleaned the TB. (Did not touch the MAF). My car does not start now. It starts with a very rough idle and misfires than the engine shut itself. any idea? (986, 2.7 )

Great explanation! The combo of step by step and voice over is well done. Thank you!

This man has saved my life serval times..
That put a smile on my face! Glad to have been of service! Out of curiosity, any examples spring to mind?
Well done again R&R! You obviously have a knack for this sort of thing.
Cheers Stephen!

Was a big help thanks
Love your channel! Really usefull!
Super explained !! Thanks !!!
Great work
Thank you so much 😀
Watch for tabs on the electrical connection. Mine were brittle and snapped.
Does the flap valve move freely or has it resistance, from the motor/solenoid? I don't want to force it.

+Rob Thu It can be tight especially if it's cold outside. Maybe try to expand the plastic with a hair dryer or heat gun?
Thank you sir. I used a hair dryer just now and it worked like a charm. On to the mass air flow cleaner..
My boxster shuts off when stopping at a stop sign, could this be a fix? No check engine light, but the entire dash lights up when this occurs.

+Late 4 work That's bad to hear. I'd check all the electrical plugs are in correctly and there are no leaks when reconnecting the piping.
Did you fix the issue mine has the same problem
And I'm guessing make sure the valve goes back to the closed position before refitting. Then follow the reset procedure as in video.
What size is the bolt that holds down the air intake? Also the size of the nut that holds down the throttle body? Reply ASAP
F Mmmm lol
