I’ve owned 2 different Mazdas for the last 5 years and I’ve said it a million times….I DO NOT GET the whole “pity it’s not a touch screen” argument. It’s so easy to use, and you don’t get filthy fingerprints all over the screen. I’ve never had a touch screen car but I imagine it’s a bit dangerous leaning forward to concentrate on it, instead of concentrating on the road. The dial is an absolutely cinch to use and manoeuvre through the options. I love it. I’m tired of journalists whinging about it as well.
I agree, I have a Mazda 6 and it works perfectly and intuitively with the rotary dial. I can easily call, sms or even report on Waze effortlessly, yet recently I had a Subaru Crosstek as a rental and the touch screen in my opinion was a hazard at speed with no rotary dial to interact with it. Paul probably needs to use it for a couple of weeks to see how much better and easy it is to use Also the autonomous driving between lane feature worked pretty well on the Subaru on the Melbourne freeways when I tried it on, I suspect he needed to take this Mazda on the freeway to properly test the autonomous driving feature rather than whatever test track he was on.
I have a Mazda 3 and a Isuzu MUx, the dial is much much dangerous on the Mazda. Just because Mazda locates the screen so far away, doesn’t mean other brands do
I agree 💯 My wife and I are so used to it that we rarely use the touch screen. We use Android Auto and Apple CarPlay exclusively so it's touchscreen enabled we still almost always use the controller. It is nice to have the touchscreen functionality. It's not necessary in the Mazda system. We have the CX-70 Turbo S Premium and love it. It continues to get better the more miles we put on. It's closing in on 8 thousand miles. Transmission is better, lane centering is better, and it's very quick off the line now.
100%. I have a 2022 CX5 GTSP and the rotary dial I got used to in a few days. FInd I dont have to clean the screen nearly half as much as the 21 Outback I had. The only thing isnt not great for is manually inputting GPS addresses. I tend to revert to Carplay and voice commands to put in an address just for the ease.
Sick and tired of journalists complaining about the idrive like button control systems and preferring touch screens. Had a rental cx8 last year and it was so much more intuitive than any other modern system I've used and easier to use on the go. Buttons and dials please
I’ve got a cx8 and I do like it, the only time it’s really annoying that it’s not touch is when your trying to zoom out and move around on google maps then it’s a real pain while driving.
Yes please introduce more Idrive controls to other brands! Its so easy to operate on the move, your muscle memory takes over and you can control most functions without looking away from driving, which you most certainly cannot do with a stupid touchscreen system. Mazda you are onto a winner with the infotainment system!
@ They are killing the iDrive controller because it is expensive to engineer compared to a simple touch screen. I don't think it has anything to do with the customer, even though BMW says so.
CX60 petrol owner since first batch. Transmission patch did fix it for me although mine was never that bad - no complaints now. I think the sport mode left (in auto) is tuned so well when flogging it (in terms of shift logic). I suspect the journalist are not getting the long term owner experience as when I got the car I noticed transmission learning and then again after the patch for a few hundred km's. It's actually a pretty quick car on the roll. Really enjoyed it up the Jamberoo Mountain Rd over the weekend with the handling and grunt coming up the hills. I'm a happy owner but as my weekend car only I needed to get a trickle charger due to low voltage the next weekend. And not so much limited to Mazda but like ever new car the stupid driver aids you want to disable each time but need to go through menu. I think the driver aids are better than my other work vehicle a 2024 Hyundai , being less intrusive.
@rcast3763 Petrol 3.3 litre. It's not harsh for me. A Toyota Kluger for example rides nicer yes but it also handling is comprimised for enthusiasts drivers. I would say the CX60 rides a bit softer than your average hatchback like the Mazda 3.
@aygeeninty771 thats good to hear and that what I want on a family car! Current Kluger V6 AWD with 17" is very comfortable even on wavy and bumpy Victorian country roads and I find the handling is good too. But no soul boring car! I believe competition made them rethink on their offerings which is good. Before they are wallowy and don't care to fix them cause they know it will still sell 😪
I own a 2024 cx 90 phev and got the software update recently and the transmission is a lot smoother. Not perfect as it can still be clunky at low speed but much improved.
I love that we live in a world where a 245kw and 500m turbo 6 in a family SUV is "not too slow", "you'll be able to confidently pass"........ The benchmark for "this is quite quick" seems to be quite high these days. Remember the "fire breathing" 180kw v8 Falcons and Commodores or 200kw STI Imprezas which all had Nm metrics beginning with a 3XX?????
Get a phone cover Paul like most other humans and then your phone won't slide and it will be protected..sometimes you complain about really trivial things like your phone slipping, rear tailgate opening too slow or not high enough, cup holders being too deep...Cmon man I always watch your reviews because you are great at them and it's very informative, however I roll my eyes at some of stuff you whinge about.

Hello from EU. I have bought a Mazda CX60 3.3 diesel in november 2024. Regarding transmission: I came from a Mercedes C220d with AMG package and a 9 speed automatic. I don't know how bad or good was the pre-update version of Mazda's transmission. From my experience (exactly 2 months from the purchase to the day I am writing this post) I can say that the Mercedes had a better transmission overall. The Mazda's transmission is very very good when driving decisively (my grade would be a 9 out of 10). It is when you drive more economically the indecisions arise. I get annoyed when it tries to run on battery only (mild hybrid) and then switches on the engine again - the transition is perceivable if you just try to accelerate in that moment and not in a good way (my grade when driving economically is 6 out of 10). If I switch off the I-stop feature the latter grade goes to 8. So overall I would say a 8 out of 10. Every automatic has its things and the Mercedes' could be also confused sometimes. Before the Merc I had a 2013 BMW 3 (F30) and although the transmission was maybe better than the one in the Merc, I would rate it lower as I had a technical issue with the gearbox and had to repair it - fortunately I didn't have to change the transmission. So that is that in my opinion. Switch off the I-stop and you get a marvellous car with excellent engine noise and a smooth ride. The other thing maybe to mention is lack of lateral support from the seats which comes to light when you pull out from a highway for example. It is noticable but not to a point it would bother you. Otherwise a great car. And by the way. I was in ZAR back in October 2024 - Enjoyed it! Love the country, the people and good food! :)
Get the cx70 good car or if you don’t want to spend as much consider its narrow body alternatives starting from 55 grand the cx80 or a cx60 which is 60k
Keep in mind that 80-120 is in practice a bit slower than measured here. When you accelerate from 0, your turbo boost is already available and you're in right gear. In real life, when driving 80, it will take some time to react to your throttle input, downshift, and build the boost. I would like to see such a test done separately, especially that you complain about the gearbox too.
I have a cx60 and the transmission update has been done and it is actually getting worse with more km on the car. Still big clunks at slow speeds. The gear box just doesn’t know what gear to choose
Agree we have a CX60 and I find I always need to turn the temperature up or the fan speed down and even adjust the direction of the air vents. It gets very cold very quickly
I have the same experience in my Mazda 3. The a/c is string, but seemingly calibrated towards being colder than the set temperature. If I set it to 22, it's almost as though it is aiming for 22 Fahrenheit!
I have no doubt the 4 replies are true. Paul comments are also true. Which means maybe for the first time, Mazda cx-70 has changed the method of delivering hot and cold. It indeed uses a heat exchanger type aircon or similar to split system aircon for home use. Mazda called it "Evaporator core." To power the aircon, Mazda uses the mild hybrid system to generate electricity for the aircon. Unlike the traditional vehicle aircon, the compressor is only driven by the engine. Unfortunate the design for the indoor or cabin unit is way too small to deliver effective cooling. Even Tesla took three or more generations of design and testing before they got it right.
Disclosure first... I've owned Mazda's for 16 years, currently daily drive one and I hold them in generally high regard. At least, the Japanese made ones. The new CX line is a swing and miss. The CX 70, 80 and 90 are quite ugly. The back end looks weird. The CX 60 is the only one that looks good/right. The CX5 (midsize) and CX8 (large) both look good and follow Kodo design language. How did the new models get it so wrong? The pricing is not competitive either. It's a bit of a train wreck, unless you have brand loyalty or get a really good deal. With the current state of things this could be my last Mazda, unless they figure something out fast (
All of the new Mazda SUVs seem to be a bit under done compared to their predecessors, CX5/7/8/9. The huge increase in price just doesn't seem worth it.
@@CarExpertAuscan you guys tell us if the cars you review have app connectivity and what they do ie remote start etc. I noticed it has the sos button but Paul never touched on it.
Azami where I live (mid north coast NSW) costs $91,320 driveaway. Base price quoted by you is almost $10k cheaper. I wonder what is included in the on-road costs to be that high. Driving my 3rd Mazda now (CX9 GT) and it's going to be hard to justify buying another one.
The CX90 and CX70 missed one important feature to be considered as an up market alternative. A simple adaptive suspension. They should at least offer it as an option.
And add 20k to the selling price? while upmarket, the CX lineup is still massively cheaper than a comparable Lexus or German. Costs have to be cut somewhre.
@@bauboni Adaptive suspension is not going to add 20k to the selling price. It is available on cars like the Kia Sorento. I think you are getting confused with air suspension.
@@bauboni Which Japanese car did you see offering a simple adaptive suspension as an option is 20k more expensive for just the suspensive upgrade alone. These type of replied really oversaturated and also indicated the replier didn't read properly. I said simple adaptive suspension. Not air suspension, not anything fancy. It won't cost 20k more in retail price. I also said maybe as an option.
Too many names for almost the same car, should have kept it simple as the X5&X7 2/3 rows [no need for 4 car names] But their interiors look simply stunning, the CX5 is still the best😬 Great review Paul🎉 we only got the CX60 this side great space from the CX5
Because one might not be able to charge at home like me or live way too far away from a charging station like me or not be on welfare and realise that cars cost insane money now just like electricity and food is why.
Not worth North of 85 k, on a positive note, No Touch screen, they are a distraction, buttons and dials win hands down. It’s not like there’s not enough distraction driving a modern car.
Hmm my 2015 Barra Territory has twice done 7.4 L/100kph on weekend quiet trips and is averaging 11.6 currently with a fair bit of recent town driving and towing while shifting house. Drives and rides stunningly... am I missing something? I like these but Ford Australia did a great job well in advance. Given the $ that Mazda has compared to Ford Au and in a modern world I love to think what we could have had now...
Mazda wanted to be BMW. But they lost their way. That fuel economy- Mazda always gives unreal mileage on paper. They said my cx-9 would give 6.9 litres. In real world, it constantly gave me 12.5 per 100 kms. May be I’m not driving the way Mazda wants me to 😂
The 3.3 engine however is as complex as a BMW for the second or third owner who might require some repairs. It would probably need half the engine out so labour costs will be high
I've seen some CX60 for 50K Drive-away with some of them having under 10 000 km i'd rather wait for a bit before buying something like this , i'm predicting this will also drop to about 50K in a bit over a year. 80K is overpriced
Yep i bought a CX60 GT diesel with just over 4000km for just over $50k complete with suspension and software updates. Very happy very impressed at that price. At $70k + maybe not so
@SoWereDoingWhatNow I'm not after amusement. My knowledge to date about the two is that diesel usually needs less servicing, particularly compared to a turbo 6.
I agree Paul, the range is confusing, the interior looks dated and bland to me, plus they have to be kidding with the 82K price tag for a Mazda suv !! On a positive note, I love the sound of the that straight six turbo engine.💪 it hustles
Japanese and European cars charging exorbitant amounts for as long as they can before they lose their market share to chinese cars. Way too overpriced.
It helps when the Chinese government is heavily assisting the car industry, not to mention the recent rumour that some brands are using slave labour. I suspect that Mazda realises it can’t compete against these factors so going up-market is the option. Whether it works remains to be seen. It has appeal, though I found the seats too short I the squab and you sat on them rather than in them.
I went to look at this car yesterday, as I have a Kia stinger and thought this engine and drivetrain would be something I’m used to. The drivetrain was great but a few things I didn’t like for the price - the interior quality is cheap, Hyundai Tuscan is classier and more features - the front seats are not supportive, side bolsters almost non existent - the front seats bottoms are way too short. No under thigh support or extension option - the door handles on the outside are so tight you scratch the paint getting your hand in. - the overall options on the car are not up to standard for the price. -the headliner is cheap. Should be velour. - the cabin is noisy when driving. -leather seats are cheap -not enough adjustment on the drivers seat . The passenger even worse - just looks like any other Mazda in design. Overall, not a car up to standard in 2025 for $80,000+
I've owned Mazda's for years and admire the quality, but they will be on the wrong side of history come 2026 / 27 in this country by Zeekr, Xpeng, and BYD.
@@AnyoneSeenMikeHunt Nah, Aussies hate China, or prejudice against Chinese or Chinese government. But Chinese cars just provide better values in most scenarios that normal people care about.
I just don’t get Mazda’s approach. I helped my sister drive her CX-30 from Adelaide to Melbourne last month, and the infotainment system drove me nuts. Not being able to use touch controls while driving makes it frustrating-you have to scroll through each app one by one just to see if the cursor is in the right spot before selecting. Meanwhile, my 2022 Kia Sportage lets me control everything with a simple touch using Apple CarPlay, like most other cars. It just makes way more sense.
What is it with the prices of new cars these days? Across all brands it’s just astronomical. $80k for a family SUV is just Way too expensive for what it is in my view. Mazda is not quite up there with premium brands. I much prefer having an idrive controller. Touch screens are just too fiddly when you are driving.
Premium brands such as x5 your paying 130-140k for 2024 model. I think 80k is a reasonable price for this car considering you pay similiar for a Toyota kluger/Hyundai palisade which don’t have a 6 cylinder turbo engine under the bonnet.
@@williamcukman8631 BMWs & Mercedes Benz have built up a brand name over many years. Mazda is not quite there yet in my opinion I can’t justify spending $80k + on a mainstream brand. I can’t even justify spending that on any vehicle for that matter.

Can you please do a video review on the Mazda CX-80 (Azami non-SP pack if possible) soon? Thanks!
Coming soon. Our car had the SP pack.
@@CarExpertAuscan you guys tell us if the cars you review have app connectivity and what they do ie remote start etc.
I noticed it has the sos button but Paul never touched on it.
@ Thank you!!!
Thank you. Only reviewer that’s commented on the silver trim looking cheap. It feels cheap too. A lot of the interior is great though
That's an incredible car
Owned Mazdas for many years, but those prices for a Mazda are just not ok with me.
Price seems in line with the not ok prices of electricity, insurance, internet and food food in the backwards country.
Big roll of the dice for Mazda.
Did any Mazda badge any Pulsar as Tiida in Australia?
I wouldn’t mind having one.
Too many names for almost the same car, should have kept it simple as the X5&X7 2/3 rows [no need for 4 car names]
But their interiors look simply stunning, the CX5 is still the best😬
Great review Paul🎉 we only got the CX60 this side great space from the CX5
Paul bloody hell toughen up 31 degrees is hardly hot. Warm maybe.
Mazda styling mojo is completely missing
Looks nice, had a 2022 CX-5, was a nice car but not good on gas...
Was that a fart noise at 6.07
"Nah, that wasn’t a fart-just a fly doing a burnout on the microphone. Little guy’s got a need for speed! 🏎🪰💨"
I am using Mazda Cx8 Diesel Awd for a year. Loved it. 1:18
such a nice car but why would you pay that insane price when so many electric cars are better in a lot of ways and cheaper
Because one might not be able to charge at home like me or live way too far away from a charging station like me or not be on welfare and realise that cars cost insane money now just like electricity and food is why.
It’s got the Face of a Mazda 2 and the rear of some BMW..
Not worth North of 85 k, on a positive note, No Touch screen, they are a distraction, buttons and dials win hands down. It’s not like there’s not enough distraction driving a modern car.
80K for a Mazda 😂😂😂 waste of $$$$$
Hmm my 2015 Barra Territory has twice done 7.4 L/100kph on weekend quiet trips and is averaging 11.6 currently with a fair bit of recent town driving and towing while shifting house.
Drives and rides stunningly... am I missing something?
I like these but Ford Australia did a great job well in advance. Given the $ that Mazda has compared to Ford Au and in a modern world I love to think what we could have had now...
What is the current equivalent of a Barra Territory at Ford dealer today?
@SoWereDoingWhatNow nothing ... the Mazda is it but I wonder about how far they've come when you look at the spec sheet
I know it’s not apples to apples but given a ford Everest top spec v6 cost 80,000 grand than… I wouldn’t say that Mazda is that pricey
@@skp115 from mr nut guy😂
I've seen some CX60 for 50K Drive-away with some of them having under 10 000 km
i'd rather wait for a bit before buying something like this , i'm predicting this will also drop to about 50K in a bit over a year. 80K is overpriced
Yep i bought a CX60 GT diesel with just over 4000km for just over $50k complete with suspension and software updates. Very happy very impressed at that price. At $70k + maybe not so
Why does the diesel need more frequent servicing?
Google will give you enough info on that topic to keep you amused all day.
@SoWereDoingWhatNow I'm not after amusement. My knowledge to date about the two is that diesel usually needs less servicing, particularly compared to a turbo 6.
@@pastorofmuppets8834 There is no amusement to be had in your question. If you can type it here you can type it in a search bar.
Great! It's doing 70 kph at 1,000 RPM.
Would you buy this or tank 500?
Tank 500 or sea lion 6
I agree Paul, the range is confusing, the interior looks dated and bland to me, plus they have to be kidding with the 82K price tag for a Mazda suv !! On a positive note, I love the sound of the that straight six turbo engine.💪 it hustles
Bland compared to ?
What does an owner do when on a long drive in the country and they get a flat tyre with extensive damage?
They use the spare tyre, which is under the floor at the rear of the car. Paul didn't show it, but it is there.
Use the spare or call roadside assist like we've all done for decades now I guess.

Japanese and European cars charging exorbitant amounts for as long as they can before they lose their market share to chinese cars. Way too overpriced.
Aussie luv China. Luv cheap they no care.

Review on TOYOTA LEGEND 55 PLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went to look at this car yesterday, as I have a Kia stinger and thought this engine and drivetrain would be something I’m used to. The drivetrain was great but a few things I didn’t like for the price
- the interior quality is cheap, Hyundai Tuscan is classier and more features
- the front seats are not supportive, side bolsters almost non existent
- the front seats bottoms are way too short. No under thigh support or extension option
- the door handles on the outside are so tight you scratch the paint getting your hand in.
- the overall options on the car are not up to standard for the price.
-the headliner is cheap. Should be velour.
- the cabin is noisy when driving.
-leather seats are cheap
-not enough adjustment on the drivers seat . The passenger even worse
- just looks like any other Mazda in design.
Overall, not a car up to standard in 2025 for $80,000+
As a second car to the Stinger I'm guessing?
no digital speedo??
No rockets either.
Apart from the volume the Mazda SUV’s from cx5 upwards all look the same. Bugger me if I could tell from cx60 onwards what number they are.
The clue might just be that they are all CX models just different sizes. Do different size mars bars or screws come in different looking packaging?
@@AnyoneSeenMikeHuntwat?
Are you a hoon in disguise ❤Paul?
Might as well go with BMW with this price
Yea, that's a smart move.
I've owned Mazda's for years and admire the quality, but they will be on the wrong side of history come 2026 / 27 in this country by Zeekr, Xpeng, and BYD.

Nobody in China buy Mazda these days
Looks like a BMW X5
Design wise it looks cool but not sure on the color lol
Then don't order one in that colour, the purpose of this video is to review the car
Yeah, colour is a bit controversial, but artisan red is majestic.
Totally disagree as I have a Mazda 3 and drive a Kia work vehicle and the dial is easier than reaching to the screen. We all have our own preferences
@ I agree with you. 🙂
There is nothing ultimate about this thing.
What is it with the prices of new cars these days? Across all brands it’s just astronomical. $80k for a family SUV is just
Way too expensive for what it is in my view. Mazda is not quite up there with premium brands.
I much prefer having an idrive controller. Touch screens are just too fiddly when you are driving.
Price rise seems in line with food and electricity and everything else in this bonkers country.
@@anakinskywalker4113 not sure if you are a mazda owner or not but i would be willing to pay 80-90K for a mazda suv based a quality, reliability, and know that it will last than a BMW/MB for almost double the price which I cannot justify. Most folks chose reliability, reasonable price for servicing and parts unlike BMW/MB cost for servicing/parts are astronomically
@ I am a Mazda owner. I talking about brand image, Mazda is not quite there when it comes to the luxury market. Yes Mazda is way better in terms of the points you raise I would definitely choose to buy another Mazda.
At that price it's a good way to turn customers away
Turns poor people away.
@AnyoneSeenMikeHunt very true

You better watch it bro
Good! Bye 👋
To be real, Mazda's line up of SUVs have very confusing names.
After all the recalls with these new SUV from Mazda, not worth the hype.
I dont understand the cx60,cx70,cx80,cx90 all looking the same. This is NOT how you do a brand family look. Guess they paid the designer too much could only afford 1 design to share amongst all the models
The clue might just be that they are all CX models just different sizes. Do different size mars bars or screws come in different looking packaging?
Does it have a spare wheel? No spare, no deal.
80 k for Mazda 😂
Doors sounded tiny as. Other than that, it's pretty decent
Doors look pretty big.
That nature’s botanicals stuff looks a bit shit tbh.
Poor a/c in Australia a travesty.😅
If it's anything like my Wife's 2 year old Cx5 Azami, AC clearly isn't a priority for Mazda. Average at best from the get go.
😮 Nissan is so good with their AC
@opinionsmatter-xx4go My new Ranger too, helps being built in Thailand - they get it 🥵
Barely quicker than a non turbo V6 like the Sorento or Kluger
Who is going to take any of these drag racing?
A top spec $90k car with sub-standard aircon is a non-starter for me before we get to anything else. The car is a fail from me.
