Kind of, in the sense that it requires two people (you could dig solo the traditional way). But otherwise it's pretty easy. So easy, in fact, it's been temporarily banned since March. It's making it far too easy for people to hit daily limits and CDFW is concerned about the impact it has on the clam population (and poaching). Thanks for watching, and hopefully you get to enjoy some clams too!
The pump belongs to my friend. He said he bought it from a local guy who made them. I tried searching for one for purchase, but no luck. If you're handy with tools, you could build these with PVC and some corrugated tubing. The base for ours was literally just a plastic cutting board haha. These are essentially large and heavy versions of siphon/transfer pumps that are commonly sold in hardware stores. Lmk if you find a good tutorial. Many have asked and I haven't had any luck
It was indeed a lot of work. Would've been much better if the timing of the tides and sunset was in our favor so that we could pump our limits (and we would have DEFINITELY eaten them all!). I'll definitely do it again though. Waaaaaaay more fun than I first imagined it being. Try it if you can! Thanks for watching too
I have not tried moonsnail yet. Unfortunately it's not legal to take at that location and I haven't found one elsewhere yet. Someday! Have you tried one? Would you recommend it?
@@jimsing8953 haha I felt the same way when trying my first abalone many years ago (my dad used to harvest them when season was open). I think if moonsnails were more prevalent and had a healthier fishery, more people would be able to try different recipes that might taste good. One day I'll find a legal moonsnail to try!
Unfortunately not for now. In fact, my friend said his pump broke the last time he went out :(. Gotta learn how to build one of those. I'd recommend joining some FB groups if you haven't already. I've learned a lot from there
Looks like fun! And so yumm6
11:38 nice sushi part :-)
Thank you! Do it everytime we get clams😬
Yum Yum, I want t taste some!
It was so good! Can't wait to try other recipes when I get back out there
The pumping looks like more work than digging!

Can't wait to go again bro!!

That's a lot of work, not sure if I want to do it myself. Great video again! Thx

@@FishAnotherDay where’s that? Bodega bay?
@@kursorken yup it's bodega bay
The other crabpot was stolen or you misplaced it. There is no current strong enough to take it.
Have you tried eating moonsnail?

I have tried it. No good. Too tough. Those gaper clams are delicious. Stick with them.😄

Why do you use an expensive knife to open clams?
