- If you're wondering what to do in London why not take a tour of Pimlico.
Joolz Guides are for people who like wandering around London and learning a few interesting fun facts whilst hearing some banter in the form of a walking tour.
It's very near Westminster and very popular with members of Parliament as a home.
The architecture around the whole of Pimlico is beautiful and it's amazing to think it used to be marsh land. Then Thomas Cubitt built all these wonderful stucco houses attracting people like Winston Churchill, Noel Coward, Vivienne Leigh, Aubrey Beardsley and many many more.
Bram Stoker wrote Dracula in Pimlico and there is the usual helping of vice,
debauchery, scandal and fun facts about London.
Pimlico is also where the Chelsea Bun was invented and we also visit Chelsea Bridge, the Chelsea Hospital, Ranelagh Pleasure Gardens and see where Mozart composed his first symphony.
There's also a visit to the secret tunnel under the Tate Britain which used to be Millbank Penitentiary. Anyone with ancestors transported to Australia should find it interesting!
The there's the Grosvenor Canal and the Bazagette Western Pumping Station.

Hi! Just a quick favour! I've started a new Instagram account because the old one got deleted!!!! PLEASE HELP ME TO BUILD MY NEW INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT BY FOLLOWING ME: instagram.com/joolzguidesofficial/
Or @JoolzGuidesOfficial
Jools, please, would you consider adding subtitles to your videos. They are beautiful to watch and enjoy, but we can’t rely on the auto generation subtitles to be correct. Please consider being inclusive and getting these fixed - at least in future videos.
Thanks
I don't think you got deleted from Instagram. The scummy facebook took over Instagram. When was this upload ? August last year. That would be approxaimate to when the Israeli media controllers did that. Even if you had the dirty facebook or got such it is most likely that one could not recover his or he former Instagram. But, also, it beats me how you got a new Instagram without going through the accursed facebook. I don't, for example, see a facebook link in the liners.
Nerdish fact ...the 24 bus route seen in the video is the oldest unchanged route in London...it's always run from Hampstead Heath to Pimlico using the same roads since 1912!
Julian, you would be a great history teacher. Never a boring lesson. I love these video's

Oh Dear, the errant apostrophe strikes again!
I wonder which possessive attribute Els is referring to... 😲
Sort that apostrophe nightmare out!

@@elsschakenbos2988 I am a history teacher in the US; have been to London a number of times and thought I'd make a good Blue Badge, but nobody knows more about London than Joolz!
I appreciate you making it easy to pretend I'm in London!
Nice. Can't to visit again myself
Me too. I was finally free to travel, then it became the case that none of us could travel.
We took a walk around London with Julian and he's just as he is in his vids. GREAT guy! Every visitor to London should go with Joolz!
Mr. Walker: when did you have your walk with Julian? We had our 3+ hour tour on November 29, 2019, a now infamous date in British history (we'll get to that later). What part of London did you tour? We focused on the Courts area and Fleet Street. We agree that in person, Julian is exactly like what one sees in his videos, and more. He presents as everyone's favorite uncle. Indeed, he was recognized no less than 3 separate times during our stroll. Can't wait for the next opportunity to cross the pond and walk London with this exceptional man. Finally, an interesting footnote to our stroll: Being the chatty type myself, Julian and I ended our tour a bit past schedule therefore he ended up being nearly 30 minutes late to his rendezvous on London Bridge. I've since half-joked with him that "I saved your life that day" because if not for my blathering on and on, Julian would most certainly have been present on the bridge just as the fatal terrorist attack commenced. Finally, to get us current, we're hoping for a new release this coming Sunday, May 16, 2021. Pip, pip and tallyho!
As a matter of fact I am watching this from Australia and my ancestor James Squire may well have touched that bollard on his way to transportation to Oz and subsequent achieving of legend status as the first beer brewer in the colony.
👍👍👍👍
GOOD FOR HIM, DON'T LET THE BARSTARDS GRIND YOU DOWN.
@david p. We're related hahaha
@David P. Nice story David but, sorry to mention, the presenter got the history wrong. POM is an acronym for Prisoners of Millbank (where the institution once stood); Pimlico is an adjacent district.
Can’t wait for all this Covid mess to be behind us and I can come back to London and see the sights for myself again. Meanwhile this is a great way to enjoy one of my favourite towns in the world. Thank you!
I had live in pimlico for 6 months.
One of my ancestors lived in Pimlico. He was William Valentine Wright, and he created Wright's Coal Tar soap.
Love that soap..
@@franmellor9843 The thing is, they no longer make it with coal tar anymore, as the boffins believe it's a carcinogen.
@@gavinhudson3064 strange...can still buy shampoo made with it ..
@@franmellor9843 I think it's synthetic, or they use some kind of compound that mimics the odor.

London is endlessly fascinating - especially for the curious. Always a pleasure to watch Joolz Guides.
it's like the whole city is one giant easter egg. What I loved during my visit was how you could just keep walking in for hours in any direction and never run out of stuff to see.
This was wonderful. I spent several happy years living in Pimlico. I go back whenever visiting London and apart from the small shopping streets, the area never really changes. Thanks Joolz.
I had also lived there.
My father was there for the scene in "Passport to Pimlico" when passengers on passing train threw food packages to stranded residents 😁
Great show Joolz
Yes passport to pimlico, the set was on the Lambeth walk, my father told me he watched it being filmed on his way to and from work on his bicycle.
The tube bits were what your dad saw filmed.👍🇬🇧
@@masher3618 Is it true that hardly are scenes in Passport to Pimlico was actually filmed in Pimlico.
Wrong side of the Thames. It was filmed in Lambeth (largely). The Pimlico I grew up in was hard to access but had houses that looked far to posh despite being decayed and in multiple occupation.
@@stuart2010ification much of it was filmed in Finsbury Park.
I was born and bred in Pimlico and yet didn’t know half of this. Thank you!
Used to live in Pimlico. Lot of Stars lived there. William Brambel. Steptoe. Shirley Bassey . And a lot more.
So did I, in Sunderland Street. Great area.
Wilfred Brambell, Steptoe, the old one...
The BEST story about Millbank Prison, is the suggestion that it is the derivation of the term that Australians use for us Brits - 'Poms' !
The story is that every Prisoner wore a Shirt with 'Prisoner of Millbank' on it, - or 'POM' for short !
@Jeff somersby But probably Neither. :)
@@philroberts7238 Whinging pom.....lol
Couldn't agree more on the lycra 😀
Brilliant as always Joolz. As a born n bred Londoner and now I'm ever so slightly middle aged, I'm interested in the history it's steeped in, your guides fascinate me. I've walked around most of London over the years, its the facts you give us that keep me hooked to your channel. Love it. Thanks Joolz. x
@Kazza M. Yeah: so 'factual' he couldn't distinguish between Pimlico and the Millbank.
I do so look forward to your ramblings, Julian, and I mean the narrative as well as the stroll. All kidding aside. You have a wealth of information to share and the ability to do so well. Enjoy each immensely.
Excellent video as always Joolz.
I always look forward to your videos with great enthusiasm Joolz! I am a born and bred Londoner whom is just about managing to continue living in London with the ever rising costs (33 years for my sins), but I always learn something new about the rich and varied history of my home city. Thank you for all of the work you and your team put into these wonderful, informative videos. Much appreciated!
Good to see you Joolzy!! Loved Battersea Park went there as a child from Pretoria South Africa 😇⛲🎉🎊🙏🦍
Pimlico born and bred, I found this to be a fascinating insight into my home territory. The site of Pimlico School, now Academy, was cleared of several streets of stucco style housing (though not in good condition at the time of demolition).
I lived there 1991-2000 and there was a street of houses which were just a facade propped up with timber, maybe WW2 damage ? They pulled it down and built houses in the same style.
Pip pip tally ho a on a Joolz Guides tour of London I must go.
Was lovely meeting you on this day on my own turf. Ps bram stoker's home is behind Kings Road opposite the recreation field facing the Royal Chelsea hospital in a mini enclave. Jenna x
Its called St leonards terrace it's at the junction of Royal Avenue. The gardens are called Burton Court.
I haven’t watched it all yet, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy as much as all the others lol. They’re wonderful viewing. 😉
Kudos for putting such a positive gloss on what is, in reality, hell on Earth.
oooh its interesting seeing Chelsea College of Arts here, as someone who would be studying there in Oct and is now half way across the globe in New Zealand...
Joolz guides your really good dude well done 👍
Thank you for the walk around our favorite place to stay when visiting London. It's like visiting when we weren't able to travel there this year.
I live in California, USA. I love and look forward to these videos! Thank you very much!
Awesome as always !!!
I love when your sister is on because the banter that y'all have is always great !!!!
I'm Glad yall are doing good through all of this , keep the videos coming !!!!
Good to see you Joolz.
Joolz guides, food for mind and soul!
Thank you and your team for making these RUclips videos. I'm economically challenged and not able to visit London. Your great presentation and knowledge of your subject matter always make these videos so fun to watch. Your Sister also totally rocks.
I hope you finances improve and you can pop down to London 👍👍
I fahkin love this guy! Julian, you are truly a man of universal worth!
Another wonderful vid! Loved seeing the woman from Romania who was actually from Sighișoara, the birthplace of the original Dracula, Vladislaus Dragwlya, 15th Century Prince of Wallachia. Otherwise known as Vlad the Impaler. Went there last year, gorgeous little medieval citadel. Most of the Romanians I know are sick to death of being asked if they're vampires, so it was nice she was of good humour about it. One of my best friends is from Transylvania and when I first met him and asked him where he's from he said all in one breath "Transylvania-god-please-don't-ask-me-about-vampires." lol. Love ya RO! 🇷🇴 gorgeous place, wonderful people, delicious food.
Very interesting as always. Quite agree re your Lycra comments.
Thank you for reminding me about Aubrey Beardsley exhibition in the Tate gallery. because of lockdawn I completely forgot about it, luckily I managed to buy the ticket😊
Handsome Joolz👍😎 thank you for the walk....
Keep em coming jules....look forward to them!!!
Oh Julian, thank you so much for highlighting RHC! My Dad was a Chelsea Pensioner and seeing RHC brought back some wonderful memories! Your tours are marvelous and I can't stop watching them! Love from London, Canada!
Just the thing to watch to start off my Sunday morning. Now I'm off to church. Thank you for your dedication and enthusiasm, it is much appreciated.
Abraham "Bram "Stoker Was an Irish Author,Born 8 November 1847,Clontarf,Dublin, Ireland.
*great man great channel* thank u
As always, excellent.
London is endlessly fascinating. And you do it justice Jools! PS I was born in Pimlico
I watched this in Brisbane, Australia!
15:28 Joolz walks off: "aah shaddup..."🤣
Apparently the strong beers--well over 10%--were seen as the answer to the "demon gin," which was so over-proof that it rendered people unable to work. According to contemporary writers, Hogarth's illustrations were no exaggeration.
I can relate to the bombing thing. Somehow the Luftwaffe was able to score direct hits on the last known resting places of nearly all of my ancestors, from Whitechapel to Willesden, not a single headstone has survived. Even in Bunhill Fields, certain great writers had their monuments restored, yet one of my ancestors lies under the place where people crowd to have their pictures taken with those monuments.
Hurrah, a new Joolz video .... woohoo thumbs up 👍
Nice video 👍👍👍👍
Enjoyed the fade out on the bickering. If only life was like video editing!
Pimlico is a great indeed, It´s always a pleasure to walk along its streets.

Hello Jules all the way from Melbourne Australia. I discovered your channel whilst looking for anything about London and the history of the city. We are in Lockdown at the moment, and your tours keep me entertained and sane through this crazy time we are in. Love your work! Looking forward to my London trip next year hopefully - fingers crossed! :)

You're looking very spiffy and summery!! I love your walks! As a frequent visitor to London from Canada, I watch to say 'hey, I know that place!', and devour places I've yet to explore. But now I know of, thanks to you!
Fabulous! I love Pimlico.
Your videos never cease to amaze me. I'm beyond enlightened. Keep them coning.
Oh I love a chelsea bun!!
I'm with you regarding the lycra
Thanks for Pimlico I was born in Sutherland st Quite a few moons ago 🌙 👍
thank you for bringing a little bit of London on a Sunday night.
You and your sister are awesome I can’t get enough of your videos keep up the good work
I missed this one. I lived in St George's Square as a child from mid 50's and went to Sunday school which later became the kindergarten where Princess Diana worked. Believe me, Pimlico then was not as you see it today. The buildings were not white stucco but very grey and drab, it was after all just ten years after the second World War. Where you thought a bomb may have dropped didn't happen. Four rows of houses were knocked down in the 60's to build the secondary school you see today. Sacrilege.
Joolz is the best ...😊Thank you for one more interesting walk and stories🎞️🎬🎥📽️keep filming💯
Brilliant!!!!
Another fascinating video, Thanks Joolz.
Fascinating stuff, Jools. I'm going to jump on a bus and explore very soon!
Awesome video!!! My wife & I walked all over Pimlico last September, went to a bunch of vintage shops!!! It was great!!!
Brilliant Julian! Absolutely spiffing !!
