William Crawford only for the lazy who don’t respect an SL with deep mechanical comprehension and early maintenance. This supercar is full of virtuoso engineering.
That car is done correctly, for years on this platform alot of folks just through pulleys at these things and boost does not always equal more power. cooling, intake, and the plenum mods are important for lowering air charge temps.
Thanks Tim! You're exactly right. Controlling the IAT's is key to constant/reliable power. A big lower or very small upper on an otherwise stock car probably won't make anymore power than stock as timing is pulled from high IAT's. However, whenever all supporting mods are done in combination, the results are glorious 👍
Just discovered your channel yesterday, the SL has been my FAVORITE car of all time since 2003! I would love to know how I can see your cars when you list them!! Was considering high end sports sedan but this just changed my mind!!!
Hey Brian, have you been able to find a way to connect and utilize the paddle shifters on any of your steering wheel update conversions? Wondering if any advancements have been made in technology. (03 SL55 AMG w/ 63 steering wheel upgrade and RAYS Masterpiece REM build, that you had sold to my Dad).
FisherFAST you sure cant! Where did you pick up your black hood emblem, there are two types, most i can find on ebay are with the spring, but on a 2003 it has just 2 prongs with a push fit? Thanks
Nice car! Can you please please please tell me where to buy the replacement lenses for the R230 Headlights? I would like to paint my SL55 Headlight housings black like you have, and can't find the new lenses anywhere. Thank you!
Love your build, man. I bet you can't wait until the snow melts to take this bad boy out. I'm taking inspiration from this for my silver C55. Same brilliant silver, looks great for a hot Merc.
I have an 08 SL55 and will be addingheaders. Have you done an SL55 with the MBH long tube headers from Germany? Why do you prefer the mid length Kleemans? Thanks.
Very nice setup. Great numbers for those mods. No headers? just pulley and TB/snout? Have you taken it to the track yet? Who did the tune? I would recommend a good valve body for that amount of power. On these cars it will save your transmission.
Wow where do you get the new lenses for the headlights? I have two R230 SLs and one of them has headlights that are starting to fade and the simple rubbing compound truck doesn't last long (UV coating is gone) thanks for the video!
Been watching you for years with the SL cars and every walk around you never put the roll bar up when you put the top down 😂😂😂😂 the SL looks so good with the roll bar up.
@@FisherFAST so I have to ask you've built several 55 cars and a 65 when are we getting the R230 SL63 AMG (6.2) build. It would be a new experience for not only that channel/fans but for you as well being that this would be a NA build.
Very nice. Enjoyed the uploads. What back spacing is in the rear 20x10.5? I am running same size niche wheels with 305’s and they just rub the front of the fender just a little. Think if my offset was 1/8 inch more it would fix it.
Thanks Loui! Got the S5 on the lift as we speak. Just changed the driveline fluids yesterday, doing the brake fluid today, and grills/wheels next week. Feels like a completely different car after the carbon cleaning, plugs, filter, and injectors! Will have an update video soon 👍
@@FisherFAST Looking forward to it! mines in also as we speak having new injectors and a carbon clean, fingers crossed it will be ready for collection tomorrow, keep up the great content!
Car looks great man. really interested in doing an intake set up like that on my sl55, I have an E 55 as well and purchased a fab tech intake was not impressed with the quality. Are you getting the big fin rear diffuser on eBay because I only found one seller that’s actually selling the big fin version is that correct? Thanks.
Appreciate it! Definitely good idea to ditch the Fabtech intake. It looks nice but have seen people reportedly lose horsepower on back to back (install/uninstall) dyno runs as the filters are undersized fit the engine. Shoot me an email and I'll give you info on the diffuser. FisherFAST@hotmail.com
Love your channel, and the sl55amg. Have you ever considered doing a total audio update? CarPlay, HUD. Or is that crossing the line, in staying close to original?
Hi Ivan, thanks for the good comment! On the earlier 2003-2004 SL's it's a lot of work to change the headunit as it runs on the Mercedes "D2B" interface. Since the car is wired with fiber optics, you need to replace the factory amps, speakers, and wiring just to change the headunit. On the 2005-2008 (still fiber optics but different headunit and "MOST" interface), it's a lot easier as there is an available adapter that will allow you to keep the stock stereo whilst changing only the headunit.
Very nice project and the rear end looks meaty and modern but the front grille doesn't work well with r230's the front end is to sleek and curvy for that grille so it looks a bit odd but each to their own.
Man , excellent job!!… How many gains in HP do you get from those high flow catalytic converters? Also, aside from the small pulley and ECU remap, where do you get your largest horse power gains?
Thanks Cedrock! I believe that the stock cats are 800 cell count and the high flow cats are 300 cell. It definitely frees up some power but can't give you an exact number unfortunately. Headers would be my first choice/recommendation to do on an otherwise stock vehicle. Big gains to be had there along with an amazing sound.
@Fisherfast outstanding work. I'm a big fan of your work. You inspired me to do a few mods like yours and a few more planned. Would love to get my hands on a rear difuser like yours. Would you be able to share the source? Thanks Much!
@@FisherFAST so pretty much changing out the factory air box I guess... I've only swapped to K&N air filters on my CSL55 and as you know from factory there is nearly no SC whine sound at all. Keep those videos coming! thx
Hi John! Shoot me an email at FisherFAST@hotmail.com and I'll keep an eye out for it. I've been having problems with the Hotmail extension and not receiving emails lately. Will be changing it soon.
FisherFast! I sent you a couple of emails before asking where you got the single fin front grill. Can you please advise where you purchased it from/seller? There are a lot on eBay but wanted to use your seller as I know you picked a quality supplier. Much thanks!!
Hi Larty! I've been having troubles with the Hotmail extension filtering out emails lately. Please forward the old email or send another today and I'll keep an eye out for it 👍
Thanks! Since the CWA100 pump draws almost twice the current of the stock pump, I rewired it with heavier gauge wire into an empty fuse slot on the passenger side SAM. It's always on with car running or key position 2.
very beautiful car but the rear splitter is a bit too big compared to the car. Sl is supposed to be class not racing style :D Anyways, super awesome car.
Very nice... Not sure why you would chose to put this much effort/money into an old SL55 AMG but it looks and sounds great and the quality of your work is top level. Ya know these cars resale value is in the toilet right? I have one too...
Hi Rliogghio, appreciate it! Respect your opinion but disagree somewhat. The extreme low mileage SL's (under 50k) will always command good money and I've actually noticed an upward trend over the last 1-2 years. The high mileage cars with no recent maintenance or accident history can be picked up for a song however due to parts costs.
Best video and audio quality on any channel for SL's. Keeps me coming back to check you out.
Thanks Lawrence! Always striving to improve.
