What car got you fellas into cars?
Nissan Pulsar GTIR got me into cars.
Mk 1+2 escorts, rs2000
XR3i xr2 mk 1 golf GTI mg Metro turo sd1 rover 🥰💚😎
@@Nando84709nice car had mine for 13 years now 💎🤠
"The Professionals" MkII RS2000......ended up having 2off them myself then a S1 Turbo.
Adam, this is the 1995 RML (Ray Mallock) championship winning car won by John Cleland. This was up for sale last year along with James Thompson’s cavalier as a package for an undisclosed amount at Vaux valves. Now myself and 3 of my mates help Jim Pocklington look after his DCRS 011 (chassis one) cavalier gsi built Dave Cook Racing, raced in period by John Cleland and Chris Hoggetts. At brands this year for the super touring power 2 event we were in the same garage as Danny Evan’s who owns the spa 24hr cavalier. Having a good look around it it’s a turbo shell that rml used with basically standard bumpers and an aero package externally. The same shells as this 1995 car through to Tony Absoloms last ever 1995 cavalier driven by Richard Kaye in period. The reverse cylinder head was of no power advantage, this was purely to get the engine to sit lower and as far back in the engine bay as they could. Although the spa car is a 1993/4 the reverse head wasn’t used yet but the exhaust manifold is designed a little like a side winder without turbo and goes over the gearbox and down the back of the bulkhead with an air ram over the top of the rocker cover to the throttle bodies. Again to get the engine low and as far back as possible. After this is when the reverse head was designed. When Adam Beard (twin engine corsa) was running with us and who was responsible for getting us in with Jim, he made a detailed comparison video on his channel of the reverse head which was borrowed off of Tony and one of ours, which is a very good watch.
The front arches sit the way they do because they were rolled to death to get the 19” dynamag centre lock wheels in and these still can not turn full lock. We have 18” bbs centre locks with the arches rolled to death on chassis one and aren’t able to get full lock.
If you watch the top gear video with Tiff Needell doing the comparison test of the btcc cars, ours is the one used to compare with the bmw 318 and Toyota carina, as 011 was used as the spare car in the 1992 season.
011 was the test mule to run rwd using a gsi 4x4 shell and is notably different by the roll cage to its sister cars. Vauxhall were trying to play bmw at their own game. It did 4 test days told to us by JC at brands last month, but they couldn’t make it work and reverted back to fwd making faster lap times. The rear suspension set up was never changed and still houses the rwd set up.

Wow!
What a fantastic, detailed post.
I'll enjoy watching that about the reverse heads later. 👍
As a note I had a friend who used to sleeve the oil gallery in the head that ran across & caused all the problems in the GM head.
You might be able to answer a question. In 1990 when Hodgetts ran the RWD version of the Cavalier, some people have chassis 011 as the one that was switched to that configuration during the season, do you know if the car Jim races is that car? I was led to believe that it was the Cleland car from 1990 and that the RWD version never raced - from John himself. The strange thing is that last season I was working at the BTCC Knockhill round on the race day, when I asked John, but the day before I was working at Croft for their Super Touring weekend (only four cars from that era, including the Pocklington GSi) and the story there was a different one.
The golden age of touring cars.
100000% brother
These and the Volvo 850 estates racing each other was truly the golden age of btcc for me
Loved the Lagunas too!
Don't usually comment on youtube, not so botherd about the cav, just happy to see you in the cossie
Back in the days when BTCC cars were based on road cars. Now they all run the same engines and the panels are just there to make it look like the road-going car. For me the A4 BTCC car from the min 90s is the one that stands out with the bright yellow mirrors 🙂
Totally agree, loved that A4 too. Cavalier always looked spot on too
Golden Era of BTCC this.
Lost so many hours Toca Touring Car Championship on the old PlayStation 1 😂
Some of the lads even brought a copy & console to work to play on the lunch breaks at one point, even when the game was ancient lol
Smashed about 5 controllers playing that game spinning of and crashing
They did it on PC as well. Where I was working in '96-'98 the hell desk guys installed it on a spare machine. They kept coming in last of the lot. It was the Donington National Circuit. I'd been around there on a track day about a month previously. Got 3rd on the demo and got bored!
My dad had a car transportation company back in the day (Car to Car) he did lots of work with Vauxhall amongst others and I remember picking up John Clelands Cavalier on a number of occasions from Ray Mallocks.
A very cool car and some good memories from my childhood!
Straight away i spotted the scottish flag and thought of John Cleland . his car usually had the roof painted with the flag . I remember he was always in the action
Nothing beats a 90s BTCC car, absolutely nothing.
Sierra 3dr cosworth
Good to see your out and about in yours 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I could imagine the front fender panel gaps are to house the big wheels. And the panel gaps above headlights and grille a trick to get more air in the intake and/ or cooling into the engine bay.
Good to see you back 😊
All the cavs and astras had squeeky clutch pedals
A very good friend of mines dad was the mechanic for a Cavalier race car for the UK thunder saloon series in the 90s-00s ,went to many races as pit crew ,what a time to be alive ,happy days 😊
I know a guy who has a genuine cavalier touring car,one of john clelends old cavalier, still gets raced today
"Even for the smell of it" Legend!! Pretty sure this was at super touring power 2. If not ths one then one the very same. So cool
You could see how excited you were talking about it . Keep up the good work with the channel
love to see the old scool cars, my brother in law had a cavalier sri and liked the calibra turbo. my first car was a hillman avenger then mini clubman 1275gt then had lots of other cars like renault 25 and triumph acclaim hls with honda engine and gearbox, Also had a mk2 astra gte and a fiat 126 water cooled version. also had a mg convertable for 3 weeks. Then got into japanese cars a toyota mk3 turbo 7m gte then a mitusbishi gto twin turbo with hks parts. then in 2001 bought a toyota supra mk4 twin turbo and had blitz exhaust and fmic and decatted with water injection and RLTC and a 4k torque convertor. also bought a boostlogic turbo kit with 74gts turbo and phr fuel kit a nos kit and a TH400 gearbox for long term plans but never got to fit it all. also bought a orange supra shell with full roll cage and never did a thing with it. would never get rid as it is my ultimate car for me.
do love seeing classic cars from the past. think now nothing really stands out like 3 door cossie or skylines.
do like the k24 series engines and swapped into different cars
Saw this one at super touring power 2 recently. There was a lot of nice machinery there!
All my era too loved it John clealand was the top driver for the cavy? All the btcc cars looked cool back then the primera was my fav don't know why.
these and the listerine bmws were my ultimate faves
wow lovely brings back the good old days, John Cleland was a proper racer and character.
For me it was the Texaco, Sierra touring cars, but the super touring era with Cleland was the best, still watch it now but back then that was unmissable racing.
They seamed so much more refined abd luxurious as normal cars
My grandads mg tf kit car. I was a kid a watched him build it and he used the engine out of my dads old mk2 escort that rotted away in the garden
Up knockhill was a golden area of racing for sure 🙏🌈💚🦐🏴
Cracking cars in the btcc, john Cleland was king in it , james Thompson I believe was in it for his first works drive, going on to do really well. Best era
Saw 2 Holiday Inn livery Seat Leon touring cars going on EBay a while back, rolling shells only, no engine or gearbox. Think one was Darren Turners and one was Platos. If only I had the space .
Volvo 850 Estate 😮
Oooooh. Good shout 👌🏼
Love it. We had the same Cav but with a izuzu diesel. Dad fitted air ride shocks the rear for towing- loved that K - M reg Era of Vauxhall
Adam, after the cavalier turbo there was the GSI 4X4, same as the turbo minus the leather seats and turbo 👍
Growing up in Jarra there was a cavalier with reg L666 CAV a white cav turbo. Absolutely loved that thing and genuinely check every week to see if I can find one!
What a motor adam I remember watching the race in touring cars & John cleland love 2 bang his car against other cars it was the best racing
Panel gap looks to be to fit the wheels up front. Great car!!
Best Opel/Vauxhall the kadet ts only available in South Africa what a car and now i have an astra j vxr
Nice to see you still have the three door
Guessing all those front and side panel gaps are air intakes/vents.
Or battle damage.
Maybe spaced out for clearance
This was the real touring car era !! As it was showroom stock cars with real suspension chassis and factory-ish look but the engines were all copied from Alfa Romeo 155 with the intake at the front and exhaust at the rear !! That is a bargain at 100.000 pounds, a swindon engine now would be £30k alone gearbox say 10k and history of car he car priceless, and the noise well that is an discussion on its own wow
Obriens and Gravetts pair of 405s btcc were also beautiful looking cars.got me into old skool pugs.ive all types over the year.205s 306s 405s.stopped with the 306s.never made a good peugeot after that era.all i have now is a 205 1.9gti with a gti6 lump from an old 306 waiting to go in.
Brilliant, hope you're doing OK Adam
If that's Clelands, someone needs a big account to buy it. He used his privateer GSi to batter the factory Vactras. I had a C20XE GSi, it was epic until he head went. Got a '97 V6 Calibra auto now, nice but not epic - but no departure date in sight!
Clelland stalled it at Knockhill, I saw him in the pits, I shouted clutch control john and he gave me the finger 🤣🤣🤣
@@HutchSco You were not alone butt. When BTCC was an honest championship, he was amongst the best. I'd buy him a ber if I ever mett him.
@@redsidebikerit was absolute top class racing, nae fks given
@@redsidebikerif I could post the picture of him telling us stories about our/his cavalier DCRS 011 (chassis one) I would. Absolutely sound bloke.
Rally cross and BTCC in the 90's was the best racing for me. Drive it like they stole it.
The 95 cav was by far the best looking one 💯
Some engineering in those touring cars. Entire engine bay re designed with wheel tubs to take the wheel size and fully re engineered strut tops etc. The mondeo takes the engineering biscuit in that era...engine so low in the chassis the driveshaft went through the V in the V6 engine.
See that car at the Brands Hatch super touring few wknds back….. hate to be a grass but it had a terrible missfire, none the less it’s still a nice piece of automotive history
Saw an old Cavalier on the motorway this week L reg looked really tidy 🙂a survivor to the dreaded rust😂😂
Best keep your eyes peeled for a Red Mondeo.........
Matt Neale might still be on his mission! 😮 🚘 🏁
The lad I bought my rd 125 off in 1998 had a dakka yellow cav with white wheels and white roll cage and twin dtm,,looked awesome you could hear it coming from about 2 miles away 😂 it’s the Sri mk2 for me always has been , I liked the astras back then too gte’s
It was the Vectra of the Supertourings, Wanted a ST200 but the GSi, SRi the latter Persia saloon V6i could afford at the time had it for 7 years
My mate had a V6, looked just like a GSI
This looks to be a very collectible and rare car.
Great video Adam❤.
hi adam . hope your well
did you end up keeping the saff and sold the escort ?
Good to meet you today👍
the gap om the front wing is because they pull the arches to get arch clearance
Wow i miss my cav gsi 4x4
Snap mate, SNAP! Watch me buy this when i win the lottery tomorrow 😉
I've owned 3 GSi 2000's but sadly never the Turbo. Mk2 SRi's before that, countless 1.8's then a 130 then Vectras. The Cav GSi's though, always close to my heart.
Iv just got a cavalier. One owner 60k.wad going to get scrapped as it was a non runner. Paid scrap money for it. Bad connection on crank sensor caused the issue. Unfortunately its not a saloon but it is a 2 litre
my mates cavalier had a 2.5 v6 in it factory, it didn't have a name as in gsi, sri etc
They were the Police spec cars. It was the base V6, Diplomat and CDX towards the end. Got a base V6 myself that someone went a little crazy on with the 'options section' 🙄
That’s the Cosworth head on that car. Same as the road car with the cossie head. Inlet and outlet swapped about.
what a car
forgot to mention the V6 cav. good video. 👍🏻
The very early btcc cars had the GSi body kit. No headlight wipers though.
It's got a Pi Research (Cosworth) System 2 Dash.. looks correct to me..
Your young 🤣🤣🤣 hope you got a blast in it m8
My Dads Capri 2.0S, followed by anything Ford with an RS badge on the back.
Did they use the 4x4 ones no only the fwd? Love the way they turn the heads around
Didnt know u could switch heads round like that
Didnt think the SRi came with a valver. Thought it was only an 8 valve 2 litre.
So you not sold the 3 door then? Good lad.
I had the mondeo 1996 st24 in racing green and cav sri
Hay Adam you in your cosworth did you not have to sell it in the end so hope you didn’t have to
I've seen that for sale a few times now.
Buy a couple of tickets Adam, you never know mate. Good luck
Quality Adam, love the content!
Proper car adam mate ya love the cavaliers to ya do .
Tough choice. Looking at the auction site, you could have a 1991 Quattro 20v for half the price. I get what you’re saying about touring cars but a Quattro is like viagra
mk 2 escort watching them sideways in the forrest lol
Legged car!!!!
What about the 2.5 v6 cavalier. U missed that one off .
Are you still in the three door Adam??
LCD display is original, BMW used the same.
CAMS......think thats raced in Australia
85k that'll go for
I’d have the mondeo v6 In my kitchen
I've actually got two of the original 18" michelin tyres in my garden from john cleavlands original btcc cavalier. Duno why but I have hahahaha. (Legit)
We have got 2 john cleland replicas
Forgot the 2.5 v6 diplomat
Rare but quick
I think I drove it on my ps1 🤣🤣🤣
John Cleland and Andy rouse were my favourite drivers and cars.BTCC now boring and dull.
The 4x4 was an opel not a vauxhall 😉 we never built 4x4 in the uk
If this car got you in to cars you would know more
I saw this for sale on eBay for £100k
You didn't sell you Sierra then?
Saw that also.....curious?
Adam have you sold both red & white car ?
80 90 dtm for sure!
💪🏽🇬🇧👍🏽
TOCA Touring car championship PS1
You sold red escort??
2.5 V6 ex police car
