This is a rare intense dramatic moment of the ballet. their charaterization, powerbalance is almost perfect. Every small moment has critical meaning. When can we see this magnitude of Bayadere again?
@Pearlaceous Yes, Altynay and Tatyana danced in La Bayadere very often. I never missed any performance with them - I loved and still love both of them and ,no doubt, I will never forget those nights at the Kirov: as a rule, they both were fantastic. Each of them wanted to be superior and the audience went crazy! What a pity that we can return to those moments - really unforgettable - only in our memory!

@iskander21024 Thank you for telling me this! You were so lucky to have seen them both together in Bayadere! It's wonderful that the Vaganova has Altynai and the Mariinsky has Tatyana to pass on their wisdom to the new generation of dancers.
Goodness me, yes, Terekhova's acting as Gamzatti is wonderful here - so subtle and complex. And Komleva's Nikiya gets the nearest I've seen to actually stabbing her!
@looovecats I would like to see Somova as Gamzatti, but she would never backtrack after dancing Nikiya for so long. Osipova would be nice as a guest Gamzatti. Petushkova would be interesting...

@Pearlaceous I am very sorry to be intrusive but if You really love Altynay You cаn see my very short film ( 10 minutes ) about her on the site Leningrad tv. ru under the titleТелефонд - the film is called " Дуэт". You can also find there my film about Vaganva Academy ( in Russian, naturally ) with long interviews with Altynay and other teachers - it is called "Триумф классики" (The Triumph of The Classic" ). Sorry.
@SuperBalletgirl101 Yes - Marianela is a very good actress with strong technique. And yet another another example of a great RB Principal who is not British! Thank goodness we have them. Where are all our Great British principals!
@looovecats I'm thinking Somova and Tereshkina might not like playing second fiddle to a "mere" corps de ballet ballerina! :-) Another corps de ballet girl as Gamzatti would make more sense!
@looovecats I would like to nominate Victoria Brilova as Gamzatti to Stepanova's Nikiya! She has that beautiful regal, steely look, technique and line...
Yes, probably the best-acted cat-fight ever captured on film. Also, Terekhova's dancing in Act II was memorable, but the same can't be said for this entire performance. Solor was forgettable and we have quite a few better Nikiyas since.
@russianballetvideo Yes, only one dancer now would match Terekhova's Gamzatti. Too bad that when she will dance Nikiya she wouldn't have equally great Gamzatti, unless there's one already somwhere in the corps de ballet but we don't know about her yet. There are some dancers I'd like to see as Gamzatti but I can't say if they would be so great.
@mariinskyfan Somova could be interesting, and Tereshkina too. I've read that Golub made very promising debut as Gamzatti this year. And I'd like to see beautiful Kolegova.

One of my favorite scenes. I have watched it in all the versions. I like Marianela Nunez' acting. She has a convincing face and style.

Just wondering if Terekhova ever danced Gamzatti to Asylmuratova's Nikiya? Now that would have been worth seeing. Altynai was/is my favourite Nikiya.

@looovecats That could be a epic! Selina's dramatic ability should not be wasted in the small roles.
@looovecats I saw Golub as Gamzatti in 2008 in D.C. She was awesome, IMO.

Yes, she did. Good dancing but acting could be better. She was rather sad than proud, strong and self-confident.

My two Gamzatti types are Frolova and Tiliguzova. I'd love to see Selina too but I think she would be too small for Stepanova.

I think that Marianela Nunez of the royal ballet is an amazing Gamzatti.
