Ballet used to be about beauty and emotion not how high your leg can get up. Sure flexibility is a good thing to have but it's not what you should focus on when you are dancing. This video is a perfect proof of that. Altynai is one of my favorites. She is the best Nikiya I have ever seen.
Stephanie Sticks you are so right! When I started dancing, we were judged on our expressions, "port de tête", arms and musicality, not how high we could rise our legs! In fact, it was never mentioned (French school). Now, they want to turn ballet into a sport...
She is simply the most expressive ballerina I've ever seen, a truly artist. I wish all these gimnastics ballerinas nowdays, which are anyway very good, would have her intensity...

Asylmurtova stuns in this solo-and throughout the ballet, of course-but I have to say that she unifies acting and dancing with a believability I’ve not seen in other ballerinas, all in 7 minutes! This is especially true, for me, when she has the outburst of joyful dancing when she thinks the flowers are from Solor. It’s amazing that 20 ballerinas can dance this role, bringing everything they have to it, but (in my opinion) only 1 or 2 makes me believe the truth of what they’re trying to portray….Asylmurtova is at the top of the heap, for my money!

Yes, in favour of Putin's friend and big pansy, Madame Nikolai Tsiskaridze. I know he's done some wonderful things to the training programme at Vaganova, especially for the men's training, but I still can't stand him.

There are perhaps more flexible dancers than her, but they are gymnasts. She is a true artist. a dancer. The best.
