I use to bash on these builds so much back in the day, and I ask myself why. But in all honesty this is probably the most fun one could ever have with a car. This is the kind of shit we do in video games, made reality.
They are silly, the shortened axles rolling on skinny tyres giving them that weird stance, huge motors hanging out of the bonnet, but I've grown to like them over the years. These burnout cars are brutal, purpose build for smashing tyres to pieces, but the pro cars are so well presented. It's pretty funny to me that doing burnouts has become a sort of professional sport, but as others have said it's pretty much because of the heavy policing of car culture and drivers in Australia. But a lot of places have skid pads and hold organised events for people to go and smash it out, it gets them off the street (well, most of them), the guys that really care about cars will be attracted to those sort of events rather than risking their cars on the road so it leaves the yahoos to be cleaned up by the coppers (you would hope). It's just a shame the media doesn't care to differentiate between the yahoos and the genuine enthusiasts and paints everyone with the same brush with their anti-"hooning" hit pieces. Even in these comments you can see Aussies talking about how strict things are here, most police are okay here but it doesn't help when bleeding heart pollies put pressure on them to go hard on any little driving offence. Getting a bit off topic though. But since it became an organised thing we started seeing these purpose built burnout cars with their weird stance and motors of ever increasing size and power. Im the guy in the yellow Porsche and Ultra Capacitors instead of a battery, doing one wheelers at Eastern Creek. I need to install a Wavetrack or similar.
For those who are not Aussies like us, The 'Barra' was a turbocharged and intercooled 4.0L straight six made by Ford Australia and installed into the Ford Falcon up until recently. The engine started its production with 240KW and was developed to 325KW, Private tuners pushed the output even higher.
I genuinely don't know how these Aussie burnout drivers, especially the guys in the massive blown methanol monsters you see at Summernats, keep those things off the walls when they're swinging in those fairly narrow burnout pits. It takes some real skill to handle that much power, with little to no rear traction, and blinding smoke, and not only not do any wall taps (which are instant DQs in Aussie burnout competitions if I remember right), but stay in the throttle and keep going. I used to think they were just hooning around, but the more I watch these guys, the more I appreciate their skill both with a wrench and with a steering wheel.
You can clearly hear him lifting off and getting back on it, "pulsing" the gas. Yes he was on the limiter a lot but not the entire time. There's a distinct difference between limiter and pulsing the gas pedal
When you live on the east coast so you stay up until 3 am even though you have work at 8 am. What I do for Aussie burnouts in the yard. And I should add that this is absolute insanity and that I’m all for it

I genuinely don't know how these Aussie burnout drivers, especially the guys in the massive blown methanol monsters you see at Summernats, keep those things off the walls when they're swinging in those fairly narrow burnout pits. It takes some real skill to handle that much power, with little to no rear traction, and blinding smoke, and not only not do any wall taps (which are instant DQs in Aussie burnout competitions if I remember right), but stay in the throttle and keep going. I used to think they were just hooning around, but the more I watch these guys, the more I appreciate their skill both with a wrench and with a steering wheel.
