I am not Polynesian, but I love the fact that they really did their research on the culture in order to make this movie, it makes it even more beautiful. When I see all the comments from Polynesian people on youtube saying they love this movie and the soundtrack (especially this opening), I feel so happy for them :D Makes me wish Disney made a movie based in sub-saharan Africa (don't get me wrong, I love the Lion King but it would be nice for us to have a movie with actual humans lol) with an African princess and African music and based on African tales. That would be the BOMB.
hearing this in theater, you could just feel it in your bones. its almost a magical feeling especially if you are Polynesian. its like u can feel the spirit of our ancestors
I was literally saying that to a friend. I am not even Polynesian I am African and hearing that song gave me goosebumps and filled me with emotion. It was surreal, like an energy or spirit flowing through the sound and through the theatre. I didn’t even understand the words (which doesn’t bother me cause I listen to a lot of music from different cultures in their language, it’s about the feel and the sound for me) but it was very profound. Very awesome
I'm from the island of Guam In Micronesia, region next to Polynesia. It was interesting to learn that the Chamorro's Såkman actually looks similar to Polynesian canoes

I went to see this movie with my dad. After this song played, we were both in tears and so happy, knowing we would enjoy this movie. As Samoans, we were overjoyed that our culture and so many others got a good, wholesome representation in this movie. I can easily say that this is my favorite Disney movie now and I love it so much!
is it just me, but does this short song make anyone else feel like there's so many beautiful things in this world that we are too blind to see? I can't explain it.. I don't even know what they're saying but it gives me chills
The most beautiful thing about it is that thats pretty much exactly what they're saying. The message is delivered through the music so that anyone, regardless if they speak the language will still feel its meaning. "sei e vaai mai, i le matou lalolagi" which means " Come and See our Beautiful Earth "
Tagaloa is the Polynesian God. This song opens up the movie. Tulou means excuse me or pardon me in samoan. I'm thinking this song or chant is actually a request to Tagaloa in allowing the film makers show case the Polynesian Culture to the world.
Gigatt TyG you're right on that. it's a form of respect for the ocean and to acknowledge it's right to existence. this is how Polynesia is formed thru these journeys that our ancestors have been far. from Samoa and Tonga, Fiji, Hawaii even New Zealand. this is what unites us altogether. 😊
Disney has a habit of hinting at that in its films, that there is a much deeper meaning to everything from opening scenes to small little lines. After reading this comment and now knowing this when I went to see the movie--thank you for making me more knowledgable about this beautiful culture--I immediately began to tear up when I heard it and saw the opening logos. It makes this song that much more beautiful, just like understanding the words of He Mele No Lilo.
I'm not even Polynesian, and yet, my heart swells when I watch this beautiful representation of the people of the South Pacific. It's beautiful, it's fun, it's funny, it's clever, it's well done, and it's a solid holdup of the Disney name. This is easily one of Disney's best movies. I don't know if it's THE best, that would be a pretty tall order, but it's definitely one of the best. Top five easy.

This song has really blended with the theme. Great opening theme! It will really prepare you to the more great scene and music. It will attached you to listen and watch the movie carefully! KUDOS to DISNEY!!! You never failed to surprised us!!!
These songs with the original Polynesian language being used gives me chill and makes me cry. This only shows how Disney give credits to the diversity of languages and cultures to create and bring joy, happiness and hope to all people in the world with their movies and music. Disney lover since 5 years old. 💋☺️
Seeing this makes me wonder why some people get angry when they hear other languages they don't understand. I've seen so many videos on youtube of someone speaking spanish or another language and ignorant people will tell them "speak English" and I'm here getting tears in my eyes just listening to this beautiful language, i don't even know what they're saying but it sounds so beautiful and i can't wrap my head around why someone would get angry at this, i love hearing different languages being spoken and seeing all of these vibrant cultures, ugh i just can't even describe it. I wish people would see the beauty of different languages and cultures. I'm so glad Disney is representing different cultures :)
I'm proud to tears to be a Pacific Islander and I'm not even a Pacific Islander. Wonderful creation! I only wish each culture in the world was represented with the grandioseness, immense pride, and admiration that Moana was made with.
Language is the most gorgeous thing Humanity has ever created and is literally impossible to surpass it. The foundation of communication, meanings and expression.
I got goosebumps the first time I listened to this. I figured the reason was because you expect the regular Disney entrance, and when it doesn't come, you're just waiting for something huge and loud to pop up. But it's not, it's something ghost-like, an echo, and it pauses. So you're waiting again, and it harmonizes perfectly in a different language, as the fireworks and nostalgic castle glows as per usual. Then the name flows into the screen, and I expected great things. I'm a sucker for Disney movies too.
Sadly though the lyrics that were used in Brother Bear's transformation scene was actually a Bulgarian folksong. It's completely different from traditional Inuit and Athabaskan cultures and songs that Brother Bear was supposedly based on. The creators of that film made a back-handed remark about this, claiming that barely anyone in America would understand Bulgarian folksongs. So they intended to use a foreign singing group for its "exotic qualities". Typical Disney. This was not even a surface level research. It was so disingenuous on their part. A big flaw in the production of Brother Bear.
I have no idea what language this is or what it even means, but god, I cried when this played. It gave me chills, and made me think of our beautiful Earth.
I got a feeling that I can't explain.. it was like my soul was invaded by happiness and something else. I'm brazilian, but I always felt like I dont belong here and since I was a kid, I kept dreaming about the sea and its secrets.. Somehow I always felt atracted by the polynesian culture and now my dream is to travel where I can really meet Tagaloa. I hope samoan people don't get mad at me, but I really feel my roots belong somehow to them..
Thank you for posting the Moana soundtrack! I didn't love the music when I watched the movie, but I listened to the soundtrack here and liked the songs more each time I listen. I ended up purchasing this soundtrack on Amazon precisely because you posted it here first.
This was an amazing movie. I am Hawaiian and I approve. Just wonderful. It felt so amazing to have the Polynesian people represented like this. I cried so many times.
when I listen to the song, I feel as if some big weight has been lifted off my heart. I feel at peace. I feel calm. Its like my spirit has been cleansed. I don't think I have heard anything even close to something this beautiful in my whole life. No lie.

yes the first time i heard this, with the lady calling at the beginning "Tulou" i thought it was Karanga, it wasn't till the singing began that i realised it was Samoan chant lol.
It is a Karanga. In Samoa, it's called 'Alaga (same thing as a Karanga). It's a chant in reverence to Tagaloa (in Maori its Tangaroa).
I love these chants during the logos....so chilling!
Same. While watching Frozen and Moana, the chanting really gets you hooked!
+Nikita Audio I agree
didnt zootopia had a chant too? or at least chilling music?
Claudio Leuch Michael Giacchino did the music for Zootopia...he doesn't do chants, or any vocals. It's not his style.
Hf
hearing this over the iconic walt disney opening sequence was just 🥺🤌🏼🤌🏼
Wish there was an extended version of this!!! Makes my heart explode
This song is so beautiful. I dont know what they are saying but for me, it feels like my mom is calling me to come home. Soo wholesome ❤
Right when I heard this in the beginning of the film I literally almost cried because I felt so much pride 🙌🏽✊🏽❤️🌺🌴 #ProudPolynesian

As soon as Moana started when I was at the cinema and heard this beautiful singing, chills went everywhere! It's such a beautiful opening to a beautiful movie. I bet that you Polynesians are proud, cos I would be if I were Polynesian. Love, love, LOOOVVEEE!!!
Facts..my eyes swelled up,when I first heard my own language in a Disney movie
This gave me chills! After hearing those first notes, I already knew this movie will be awesome!
This song makes me feel like my eyes are being opened to all the beautiful and powerful things of our earth that we often take for granted. My favorite
Much agree
This song has really blended with the theme. Great opening theme! It will really prepare you to the more great scene and music. It will attached you to listen and watch the movie carefully! KUDOS to DISNEY!!! You never failed to surprised us!!!
Omg. The voice of a goddess. It's the most beautiful thing i have heard in my life
These songs with the original Polynesian language being used gives me chill and makes me cry.
As a Fijian, im soo proud of Pasifika Voices(a choir from University of the South Pacific) from Fiji mixed also with Solomon Is.
#PolynesianPride
Mystical Wolf Do they have a RUclips channel?
I'm proud to tears to be a Pacific Islander and I'm not even a Pacific Islander. Wonderful creation! I only wish each culture in the world was represented with the grandioseness, immense pride, and admiration that Moana was made with.
I cried. This is so beautiful. I have no clue what they are saying but this is so beautiful...
Language is the most gorgeous thing Humanity has ever created and is literally impossible to surpass it.
The foundation of communication, meanings and expression.
They outdid themselves on this soundtrack, that's all I can say
Jules Reads It's because Lin-Manuel was a part of it :)
-I am a diehard Hamilton fan it's a problem-
Same
wholesome comment. ❤️
Still salty about this movie being cheated out of its best original soundtrack Oscar
@@katyw3924 yes he was, but without te Vaka it wouldn't be the same
this is one of the most magical Disney openings
Now this is a spiritual experience!.. I mean, this is THE most beautiful language in the world! P.S. Coming from a native Ukrainian speaker.
This kinda reminds me of "Transformation" from Brother Bear. It's beautiful!
Mark Mancina who wrote the score/orchestrations for Brother Bear also did the same for Moana!
coolness06 no wonder it was so beautifully powerful!
It gave me chills, and made me think of our beautiful Earth.
ugh when this is playing and the Disney logo springs up, you just KNOW you're about to witness something beautiful
I knew I was in for a good movie. But not a great one
Listening to my little Irish 4 year old trying to sing to this is LIFE. Respect to your beautiful culture and greetings from Ireland!!
Mateus Santos you could be right bro.

Thank you for posting the Moana soundtrack! I didn't love the music when I watched the movie, but I listened to the soundtrack here and liked the songs more each time I listen. I ended up purchasing this soundtrack on Amazon precisely because you posted it here first.
I thought the same thing when I saw the movie! So much emotion in these songs. Definitely my favorite soundtrack since Tarzan
I'm not Polynesian but this gives me major chills. So beautiful ❤
This song gives me goosebumps, It's like my Polynesian ancestors are talking to me
Song sounds very powerful as it almost replicates what the sounds and harmonies our ancestors used to sing during their chants
Having this at the beginning of the movie makes so much sense after reading the translation. ^_^

No lie.
