The Normandy landings were the landing operations and associated airborne operations on Tuesday, 6 June 1944 of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II. Codenamed Operation Neptune and often referred to as D-Day, it was the largest seaborne invasion in history.

Fun fact about D-Day, apparently the only ship to hit its D-Day target was USS Texas because the captain ordered one side of the ship to be flooded to give the guns more elevation.

Of course, this would not be complete without quotes from the legendary Captain Torres.
Totally fals, most battleships that participated, hit most of there targets they was assigned to, USS Texas flooded one side of the ship, so they could rich farther inland, since USS Texas guns didn't have the same range originally as other battleships that participated, even the British 15" dreadnoughts had more range then Texas.
Flooding one of the tanks, to get more elevation on the guns, for more range, was quite common among battleships and dreadnought's, when doing shore bombardment.
The modern German army would likely use modern tactics as well. No allied armor would make it off the beach. Attack helicopters main job is killing tanks, not strafing the water with the anti-tank canon. With laser guided anti-tank missiles, the attack helicopters wouldn’t need to expose themselves to enemy fire at all. The effective range of the chain gun on the helicopters is significantly longer than anything 1940s troops had available and every DU round would punch through a Sherman tank like tissue paper. Why were the modern German troops in the fortifications firing assault rifles at landing craft? The troops in the fortifications would also have missiles and recoilless rifles capable of taking out a 1940s landing craft, or at least killing every one in it. Modern cluster munitions and fuel-air explosives would destroy entire companies of 1940’s era troops in one shot if any of them did make it to the beach.
Also, Germany does have a significant Navy. I doubt any 1940’s allied capital ship would make it out of port when opposed by modern submarines. The only limit would be the number of torpedos and anti-ship missiles the Germans have in stock. A modern coastal patrol missile boat has more firepower than a 1940’s destroyer and a missile range of 100+ miles vs a 1940’s naval gun range of maybe 5 miles. The 1940’s allied navy would never even see their modern era opponents.
The Normandy invasion was a very close thing and tens of thousands of allied soldiers lost their lives against the 1940s German army. It wouldn’t have been close if they were fighting the modern German military. In the 1990’s Iraq war, US forces obliterated the Iraqi army in Kuwait with almost no losses and Iraq had 1970’s era weaponry. A 21st century army fighting a 1940s army would be even more lopsided.

Denmark strait, the Brits opened fire at 9 miles and were landing shots near their opponents from the battle start
Lets go back further, ww1 jutland. Found a statistic here which says that the two battlecruiser lines were firing and scoring hits at roughly 13.7km (around 8.5 miles)
Another one, HMS Warspite to this day is credited by the longest range hit on another vessel at 24km (15 miles)

@@RyanPrentiss no I'm not, how in any way am I doing that? Ww1 and ww2 ship heavy artillery was aimed by technology with people Manning said technology, same as today. It's just different more advanced tech that we use, heck some of it isn't so different (radar guided artillery was a thing in WW2)

I doubt it. No modern air force in Europe has enough ammuition, or the ability to re-supply their air power, to be able to take out 1500 ships That's just too many targets and also, the missiles of today might not sink or disable a major surface ship of 1944. They were heavily armored - not light skinned like the ships of today. They would be hit, that's for sure, but a sea skimmer simlar to the Exocet would not penetrate the armor belt of a battleship. The big guns would keep firing long after all missiles had been expended.
I will say that the German commanders would know all this, and probably would order their planes t o target softer vessels like troop ships and support ships. That would put the kybosh in the invasion . The fleet of 1944 would have no way to defend against missiles, and would lose those important ships. The only way to defeat the German technology would be to get to the beaches as fast as possible under naval fire support from the big guns. A force of 156,000 men can absorb a lot of casualties, as the Germans would run out of ammo at the platoon level, too.

Smaller ships probably won't be as armoured.
You'd really only need to reduce the ability to get troops to land. That's assuming that only the airforce is utilized.
There's nothing the allied fleet of the time can do to the modern German navy either who'd be dumping missiles on them all day.
Then there's ground based cruise missiles.
You don't have to sink every ship, just need to get them to understand they can't successfully invade.
@@pandabanana2593 Agreed. The Allies in 1944 planned on as many as 30,000 (IIRC) casualties the first week, but they did not plan on losing ships. They lost 27,000 in the entire month of the Battle of Normandy.
So inaccurate. There is no way the beaches would be touched. Modern firepower and C3I would mow them down. The helicopters alone would deal with the fleet let alone laser target designation for any support weapons.

I honestly feel like the Euro fighters would just use anti-ship missiles, sink one big ol' ship per missile.... Even if each fighter only carried 2-3 anti ship missiles, if the Allies lost 400 cruisers, aircraft carriers, battleships, etc. after just a single German sortie?
Think about that. There were like 1,500 allied ships if memory serves.
Imagine losing ONE THIRD of your invasion/support fleet in the span of say, 5-10 minutes?
Forget about all the air traffic coordinating an invasion, can you imagine the CHAOS of 400 ships sending Mayday's and... like... *aaaaahhh*
It would be an absolute catastrophe, and every remaining ship would be employed saving survivors and evacuating back to Britain.
I can't imagine anyone sustaining losses that severe and thinking "actually, let's continue this invasion."

@@custossecretus5737 Depends. Since most modern ships are virtually unarmoured modern ASHMs are just guided flying bricks of explosives with next to 0 AP capacity so they are only usefull against light cruisers at best. But dropping a TAURUS on a US battleship would smash it.
Except this was a last ditch effort. There was no option to try again. They had to keep going. They were willing to accept over 50% losses and expected it to happen very quickly. They had to win even at exceedingly great cost. There truly was no 2nd chance.

Yes I agreed. All those ally ships as soon as they would've headed thru the Channel would've have been hit with anti ship missles and Jets ATGMs. Would've probably sank the whole ally fleet before they even made it 1 mile out from harbors
Wanna make it accurate with not having an German armoured unit on the field but still have a lot of Sherman on the beach kekw, when in reality there wasn’t much Sherman, mostly sunk in the channel and the one that made it to the beach got sniped by the anti tank guns. This is bias to the extreme

And a tiger Helikopter isnt going down in small caliber gunfire that easily. And the would take ther advantage of missilerange and speed.
Talking about the bombers, the bullets of the german fighters seem to be totally ignored, the missile based AA-System Roland as well.
Im not sure if the tornado is still in service but with its dedicated weaponry the way to and on beaches would be an even worse slaughterhouse for the allied troops. Not to mention their antiship capability.

Bias in it’s best form. So much missing on the German side. Roland AA System, Generally Rocket Systems, Anti Tank Infanterie is missing, And so on.

I'm curious why you say that. Fact is that modern Germany barely has a military and it doesn't have the logistics of the US. If you take (arguably) the weakest military of modern Europe and throw the largest naval invasion in history at it then eventually it will get overwhelmed. Modern Germany just doesn't have the ammo to turn back an invasion force of over 200,000 men

@@drbomdaydayboms4890 I do know history. If you did then you would know that there were Sherman's that participated in the D-day landings. Said Sherman's were converted to be amphibious and referred to as duplex-drive or dd-shermans. Many of these tanks sank on their way to the beach but every beach had at least a couple DD-shermans present. Unfortunately, these tanks were few in number and thus largely irrelevant, especially on Omaha beach where 27 of the 29 tanks sank before landing
All of this is to say that the singular sherman in the video isn't ahistorical and maybe you should double-check your information before talking shit

Just found this channel and I find it very amusing, however very bias as well. German air force alone would decimate most of the allied navy and most of the airplanes. Not a single allied soldier would make it to the shore, not alive at least.
They might run out of munitions. You don't seem to understand the difference in scale. The modern German military does not have the scale of the World War II military. It's like the joke that the US would run out of bullets before the Chinese ran out of soldiers. Modern tactics in conjunction with weapons would prevail. But modern weapons alone would not.

You did forget that the Eurocopter has PARS and hellfires and the optics is above the rotor so you cann launch the Atgms behind over destroy the ships or anti air then come closer and use auto cannon
They always do this. Modern attack helicopters have long range weapon and sensors but games and movies keep showing them getting into close quarter combat. There are videos of US Apaches killing insurgents miles and miles away without them knowing.
Also where are the anti-ship operations?. ATGMs or or simple rocket launchers to knock out the Shermans? Where are the drones?

@@dareka9425 Game mechanic (mostly) used helicopters to be on par with RPG guy. So they not have to make complicated AA thing.
The germans would control the air in a very short time and at that point would control the tempo of the battle. German air could also sink most of the allied shipping at night as they did not have radar.

The Bundeswehr integrates its mechanised Infantry into the Armored Divisions. No Leopard 2? Then there should be also no Panzergrenadiere (mech infantry in Puma or Marder), wich are also only used by the active combat personnel. The Reserve is only trained for limited combat and operates in logistics and support roles, like performing guard duties etc.
What whould be sitting on that shoreline would be Jäger, light infantry operating from Boxer APC, supported by Boxer IFV/Wiesel-1 TOW-2 and MK20 plus M106 Mortar Carriers etc.
The Gepard AA Tank is no longer in service in the Bundeswehr since 2010.
The Gepard and Mantis would be at the outer edge of their range, when engaging WW2 Bombers, as they were designed to engage low level close range targets like Attack Helicopters and Ground Attack Aircraft.
So inaccurate.
German Tank division with Leopard 2A7s are faster and would have arrived on the beaches before the allies took the beach.
The allies didn't have anti-aircraft guns with them on the beaches, German Tiger attack helicopters has enough armor to sustain 50.cal rounds.
German Strike aircraft ( Gr4 ) would have arrived and dropped thousands of anti-infantry cluster bombs. In addition, Type 214 submarines would be sinking the ships supporting the landings and German jets would be firing anti ship missile at those allied battleships. UAV's in the German army could be reconfigured to carry bombs.
ATGM's would also be present on the beaches. German patriot batteries and 155mm Artillery would be shelling the beaches with pin point accuracy. The M270 MLRS that German army operates would arrive and Absolute obliterate infantry and vehicles.
Historically, Allies didn't have anti-aircraft guns on the beaches, allies didn't have many Sherman's ( just over a dozen on every beach ), German forces did have panzer's 4 at the beaches, Germany did also have Artillery, German U-boats we're also present and sinking ships, High altitude bombers from Germany was dropping radio guided Fritz-X bombs at the allied ships. In addition, The panzer's would have arrived on the beaches before the Allies took it if it wasn't for the paratroopers blocking the route so with the Modern German army they would steam roll the Paratroopers and reach the beaches.
This is just not a good simulation and highly unrealistic with how it plays out, despite modern germany defending the beaches during the D-day landings, in the end the allies takes the beaches with more losses and simply are stalled for a bit more time, if it was more realistic even if modern german military somehow had similar constraints to their ww2 counterpart, taking the modern tech and all other equipment the BW would have had, D-day would have failed, i actually had a friend run a sim of this and despite the numerical disrepancy, the allies still could not even secure a single beachhead, even on the least fortified and manned location, the ships close enough to shell got sunk by surface to ship missiles and by jet aircrafts dropping bombs on other naval targets.
Please make a rework that is more realistic cause this is just wishful imaginary thinking, this kind off is an insult to both combatants in it, Allies win simply cause of WW2 vanilla plot armour, Eisenhower actually have a speech prepared for the case of the landings being a failure, iow they were not even sure that d-day would be a success.

This also assumes a complete doctrinal change as there was virtually no German air support over the landing on the first day. The allies should still have complete air superiority but you should probably allow the Germans to have their coastal guns too.

Definitely bent. There was artillery at the beaches besides the major coastal guns. Where are the AT teams, and AFV's with guided missiles. They would not have lost a single helicopter because the maximum range for machine guns in anti air is maybe 1500 meters. Two thousand if they were lucky. While the helicopters would be firing their missiles from way further back and would not even likely be seen. The interesting thing would be the modern anti shipping missiles. Could they have breached the armour of the big ships? I think not. You don't want to include tanks OK, but artillery would have been there and firing at a rate and concentration never dreamed of. The pre-invasion air drop would have been annihilated off the coast because the German air force don't need daylight to use radar. Nicely managed for an allied victory.
Why are the vehicles stationed on the beach? WW2 artillery may not have digital fire control…But they’re not firing fluffy bunnies!

The issue is you have all the stuff sitting and waiting on them. The deception of where they were going to land kept a lot of their reserves well away from the landings and they didnt have enough equipment and men to "flood the zone" everywhere.
Thats the reality, Rommel predicted d day and wanted the beaches reinforced with armor. Hitler denied that request.

@@rivera7200 Thats such a bullshit. The only way to hold them back would be due to attack planes harassing the tanks, which would be historical accurate. However, the tanks would have intigrated anti-air support, which would easily take care of any plane foolish enough to engage.
And no, high flying bombers are highly ineffective against mobile targets.

Eurofighters are one thing, but why not to use Tornados against ships and sunk some of them, also I don't see any use of infantry anti tank missiles, not sure if they got Javelin or something more similar, but all would be good enough to get to kill Shermans

The MG42 is totally gonna be used even if it's modern day when it's a beach landing.
The MG3 is basically a MG42 with the swastika scrubbed off (literally in the case of some older Swiss ones) and rechambered for NATO munitions. Its a great weapon and still in use although being phased out in favour of more modern weapons.

Attack choppers will take out all DD tank landed, and maybe strafe the beach with machine gun fire. Bombers or ground attack planes carrying air fuel bomb will burn up the ones on the shore. Anti-ship missiles will make short work of the ships (launching from air or ground), at least the turrets when landing from top side. Modern AA system will down most aircrafts, or even shoulder fired anti armor rockets can rain hell on the tanks or landing crafts. Small arms advancement is much less so the main point is to keep the enemy away from small arms range where modern infantry has no significant advantages. With a couple modern armored vehicles it probably can take care of the 101 from behind and keep them at bay, especially when they landed the night before with modern nightvision devices.
I don't understand why it's done without any proper shore defense system that will take out ships. Naval artillery is the biggest danger to the defense and those needs to be taken care of.
