    △About Off-Track Family:
    We are a family of 4 with 2 children. We are overlanding for years now on wild tracks in our Land Rover Defender 110.
    Our expedition vehicle is a Land Rover Defender camper conversion. Some people say it’s more like a bug out vehicle but for us it’s the perfect 4wd off-road tourer with best 4x4 camping set-up.
    We bought this 4wd rig brand-new in 2009 and the engine is the 2.4 tdci Puma version. We transformed it time after time in a real overland 4x4 touring camper and it’s now a perfect off-grid truck for wild camping, bivouac, or simply as an overlanding Defender.
    We love enjoying time in nature and exploring the world as a family.

    Wow it has been a year already- thank you for the update. I have used an exterior marine grade UV stable flexible silicone with windshield trim of my jeep for 7 years successfully, urethane based (same product to secure windshields ) could be a good product- needs to warm when applied and use a electric caulking gun as it a very stiff product to squeeze by hand.

    I also used sikaflex on the joint between the bulkhead and the windscreen surround. Just pushed the old foam back in and sikafkex worked a treat. Glad I’m also not the only person to park one way on an incline! If I reverse into my drive and it rains the inside groove above the rear quarter light fills with water. Still can’t trace it. So I just park front in! Sorted. Reminds me of a post I one saw about someone coming round to fix their friend’s leaky defender as water was pooling. They just drilled a hole in the footwell floor. Pooling water no more!

      Ours is still watertight but I'm thinking of sealing the bulkhead-windscreen seam and the gap above the cappings. I'm just not sure about Sikaflex there. Wouldn't it be very difficult to seprated the panels if needed because of Sika's adhesive strength?

    • @nicksmith2683
      @nicksmith2683 3 года назад +1

      @@frank-lr yes, maybe, but when I looked into replacing the seal it was pretty much a roof off job due to the pins. I know sikaflex is strong, but nothing a razor blade won’t sort if I need to separate.

    It’s the only thing that I can’t stand about my Defender! 😁 My roof is all good but the doors are a nightmare! I have installed a plastic channel (1995 300 TDi) in the bottom of the door with drainage holes to catch the water and allow it to escape. Will be sealing up my vents too. That should sort it......for now.

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  3 года назад +1

      It's a love & hate story ;) We also added Sika around the door seams (on the inside) before last year's job and also at the bottom of the windows (on the outside) and it helped a lot. There's more details in our first vid.

  • @HeliRy

    For an ‘09 vehicle that leaking is brutal. I used to have an ‘86 Jeep CJ7 and would fold the front window down in the summer. That of course broke the seal at the window and every time it rained, I had to drive with a towel on my legs 🤣

  • @ddnuk
    @ddnuk 3 года назад +1

    Tip for you - one of the reasons your footwells may be getting wet is because of the cables running from under the bonnet and up the snorkel. Rain from the gutter and under the windscreen will hit these, run along them to the top of the footwell under the bonnet and seep inside.
    I would suggest waterproofing the footwell under the bonnet, sealing any seams and put something to redirect the flow from the cables to the top of the whee arch so it doesn’t hit the footwell.

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for your message! Yes we added sikaflex on the gutter under the bonnet & redirected the flow, our first video from last year has more details on that. We don't have anymore water leaks & this is why we share it. Thanks for pointing out that particular point :)

    Great video thanks for the share. Need some advice regarding my roof. Its basically leaking at the seams/joints and also in the middle where there is no joint, paint is also flaking and bubbling, think the last owner tried to fix it without success. It's entire Landrover is currently coated in Raptor (like old style artex). Wanting to get rid of all the flaking, cleaning off with white spirits the primering use Sika flex 521 UV on the joints and then painting the entire roof with bitumen, would also consider using some rust repellent before treating would this be a good idea or not with the bitumen thanks any advice would be great

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  2 года назад +1

      Hi! About bitumen, I'm not sure that it's necessary. The most important is to locate the water ingress points. You just need some sikaflex to stop it leaking. One of the most strategic point is the joint between the roof and windscreen at the front like in the video. Don't hesitate to give us your feedback.

    Great video. Gives me hope of solving the problem one day 😊 How many tubes of Sikaflex would you say are needed to completely seal a Defender? Mine is a 90 County. I can't source the product locally (Malta), and I will probably have to order it online, so I want to make sure I order enough.

  • @brownmoyondizvo1258

    Nope, mine remains leaky. It provides cooling relief when it's over 40 degrees Celsius and my feet are roasting. If it's 40+ outside, it must be about 60 in the footwell, so if it isn't raining, I pour cold water from the fridge on my feet. If you ever come to Africa, that's my top tip. If you have a solution for dust, I would love to hear it! Thanks for the excellent videos.
