    I have this glider. I would recommend the PNP version, also reinforce the inside of the motor mount with fibreglass as it's a weak spot. The canopy has a propensity to fly off so securing it with some magnets a good idea . It's quite a heavy fuselage so it's unlikely to thermal much but is good for slope soaring. Mix in flaps to ailerons to improve roll rate. It's no hot liner. A good intermediate glider at low cost. The prop and spinner should be replaced or at least balanced. They are junk.

      Thanks for the tips!! Definitely a nice glider with some changes it’s even better

    Two years since this was posted (at least?) but worthy of praise. I just saw this model available on Ebay and searched for reviews. That means that RUclips is filling my feed with all videos related, as they do. Yours is an excellent intro to the model. I didn't know about the ABS fuselage. I like that. HK's page shows a camera mounted in the cockpit area - I like that, too. I won't buy from HK though. A shipment was lost in transit and they took 94 days and countless emails to finally issue a refund. It was just 6 propellers, but their behavior cost them a customer. Mary's camera work is excellent, BTW. And that runway! So nice.

    I bet it won't be long before you're catching decent thermals at that site..! I fly the 2000 version in the UK and it thermals away great. I have to move a 2200mAh 3s lipo to the back of the tray to balance mine. You'll find it will climb out much more efficiently if you just keep it headed into wind each time and cut the motor at height. I get around a dozen powerful climb outs on the 2200 packs. Great to see you enjoying your maiden. Atb...👍

    Geez Louise, it’s HUGE! What is the wingspan, about 9 ft? Have to say it looks like a lot of fun. I had so many questions at the beginning…how do you get it back? Does it just keep flying? Do you use a remote controller? So many but you answered them all. Great job, lots of fun, and very enjoyable video to watch. 👍🏼❤️

    • @UngluedModeler
      @UngluedModeler  3 года назад +1

      Haha yeah it’s huge!! It’s 8’ wingspan! And yes it’s still an RC plane so yes we fly it just the same with our Radiomaster transmitter. It flies great and glides a long time so you have to really plan your landings hahah

  • @bobkeul7682

    I have this one, very nice! Did you manage to get the flaps also working together "as" your ailerons? So double ailerons.
    Notice you have the TX16S did you do any special programming?

    • @UngluedModeler
      @UngluedModeler  2 года назад

      No I didn’t setup full span ailerons. It flies so good as is so I just left it alone haha 😂

    Some advice gleaned from various reviews. Take hem as you will
    Required:
    3S 11.1V 2200~3300mAh LiPo Battery
    6 Channel Transmitter and Receiver
    Buy a spare prop and wing clips
    Beef up the firewall with fiberglass cloth and epoxy.
    Change the servos to stronger metal gear ones
    Replace all pushrods
    Insert a small section of hollow carbon fiber rod at the point of attachment of the control horn on the rudder.
    The plastic clevises on Two of the control rods could slip over the threaded ends making them unusable. Replace on ALL control surfaces with a screw type nipple clevises.
    Change the 4023/1050KV motor to a 25 Gram heavier 3542/800 kV Motor with an alloy turbo spinner. Using an 13/8 Aeronaut folding prop in combination with 2200-3000 3S batteries. That gives me 32Amps peak current and a good climbing rate with less power consumption. In 15 seconds I am over 100 meters. With a 12x6 folding prop you have beetween 32-35A on full trottle with a 3S 2200mAh Lipo. The original Volantex 40 ESC upgrade works OK with it when you mount it right behind the air cooling hole on one side in front of the fuselage.
    Mix a little rudder with the ailerons and a tiny bit of down elevator with the flaps.
    When fitting the wings fit one side with the tubular joiners half through, connect the 4 servo leads and push these inside the fuselage. Then slide the other wing half on the joiner tubes and repeat before pushing the wing halves together onto the neat plastic catches. I suggest the servo leads in the wing and fuselage are colour coded to make for glitch free joining.
    With a 'Gliders G-Power' 3S 3300mah LiPo, the model balanced correctly (for my liking) and gained height rapidly under power.
    With the power off, it's definitely not a 'floater', covering the ground quite rapidly and needing to be actively flown rather than being left to just 'drift around'. It does also tend to 'keep going' on the landing approach, so my next job will be to to swap out the aileron 'Y' leads and use an extra channel, thus allowing 'crow braking' to be programmed in.
    beefy aluminum spars are heavy, causing fast landings. Split the aileron wires, and program some Crow/Butterfly to slow it down
    I use a 5Ah 3s 20c and with some power off careful gliding can regularly achieve 40mins from flat field. Or 20mins powered with moderate throttle use.
    . I changed my ASW28 with about 1.5mm of packing pieces under the trailing edge of the tailplane ( horiz stab) and it made it a much better floater, really, much better. Though a mod like that will be more complex to achieve on the Phoenix.
    Happy wings!

    L👀ks like my (more expensive) FMS fox 2.3m.😳!!!
    IF it has a 20a, red OR black label esc, be careful!!!!!
    3rd flight, my motor acted up. Ended up smoking the original esc. (That awesome fms quality electronics 😳🤯). I switched over to a spare eflite pitts motor, 50a esc. On 4s, its truly acrobatic! LoL!

      My maiden + 2nd flight, it was nice! Put the 3rd battery in, the esc smoked & motor locked up. I was hot. (Of course, horizon said 'no warranty'😳). I just put my spare extra 300 motor in, added a 50a esc (w/reverse & brake), & will probably be using a 4s dumb battery. It should be 3d-ish now! 😁👍
