AL was from my hometown of Greenwood, Mississippi. He played college basketball for our local University MVSU. I can remember being a kid hooping in the local Rec center when he came home from the NBA season sporting the 76ers gear. It was like Jordan had walked into the gym to us. He then proceeded to battle all of our hometown hoopers. Those were some of the most incredible games, the world never saw. Greenwood had some amazing talent on the bball court.

For someone with advanced stage of leukemia and playing the time of his life and dominating guys on the court? That's even far bigger than Michael Jordan leading the Chicago Bulls to defeat the Utah Jazz while he had flu-like symptoms. Alphonso Ford should be on ESPN's 30 for 30.

Ford was good friends with my father...as a kid everytime he came home he always had shorts and shoes for me..he brought me a pair of those very shorts that the green team had on ..I never knew he had leukemia until he passed..R.I.P..the best basketball player I ever met.

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. He had a stint with us in 1993-94 ( one of the BEST years of my life). He seemed so nice and humble, and grateful for the chance.

Condolences for the loss of your Dad. My Dad passed unexpectedly in March 2003, and life hasn't been as happy for me since. I'll offer this up: Give yourself 5 years to recover emotionally. You'll be farther along after 3, than you expected. Get out of 2021, which will have a stigma. Sorry again for your loss.

They say, "He wouldn't have wanted us to agonize over his passing" is a cliche. But, most people who one says that about, its true. I believe your Dad feels that way. I know my Dad would have wanted me to try to live life, hard as it suddenly became. One can say, we both had a big hole in our lives, losing our fathers. I say it was a CRATER that it created.
