  • From late 1969 comes this record that was issued on the tiny Earth record label. You can find Joey Levine and Artie Resnick's names on nearly every release on this label. This one is no exception, and it's clearly Joey singing here.
The story that seems to be on the internet is that while the Kingsmen (of Louie, Louie fame) were on hiatus from touring and recording, their manager approved these studio musicians to record and put out this record under the Kingsmen name. When the real Kingsmen got wind of this record, they had their lawyers squash it.
Personally, I think that these guys were goofing around in the studio and needed a name to put this under, and came up with the Kingsmen out of nowhere. Just my speculation, anyway. Any concrete proof one way or another is welcome. Enjoy!

You win! I subscribed. Got some great stuff up here. Thanks for doing a very nice job of putting the music up here. Really great attention to detail having things sound better than some other people who don't do it as well as you. Sal ; )

The "A" side, "Feed Me" was a REALLY GREAT song and it charted in the Top-40 regionally. I remember It was played regularly back in 1969 on an AM station in Sarasota, Florida. The record was uploaded here on RUclips a few years back but was taken down for whatever reason. --- John

The website 45cat lists this group separately from the "Louie, Louie" group, so I am going to add this group to my Same Name, Different Artists playlist. The "Louie, Louie" Kingsmen are already there along with a Kingsmen from the 1950s made up of some members of Bill Haley and His Comets.

This is not the Kingsmen of "Louie Louie" fame. These Kingsmen were led by Joey Levine & Artie Resnick, thus the similar sound to The Ohio Express. Also, the tune is a throwaway "B" side similar to some B sides Buddah Records & Phil Spector issued. The idea to DJ's was to play the "A" side of the single & ignore the "B" side.
