Why did they move truck 34 and replace it with squad 5 ? Old buildings like that have a lot of dead space and a cockloft making it hard to get a the heart of the fire.
David Glaum by the time they moved truck 34 the building was a gonner so the comment about the dead spaces and cockloft were moot.beyond that I have no other answer as I was not there.
They moved both 34 and the squad. My assumption is collapse zones. Truck 34 has greater reach and can be farther from the building so the moved that to the side of the building where it is far enough away but still has good reach with the master stream. The squad has a much more limited reach so backing it towards the corner of the building allows it to be closer but out of the collapse zone.
Mostly.....its because they are trying to be macho. Sometimes b/c it restricts their movements; they can move faster & more efficiently without an air tank on their back. Years ago, you were made fun of, called 'weak' if you put on an air tank. I imagine that culture in F.D.s still exist.
That building is definitely a total loss. Hats off to those guys for fighting it. Thank you guys for your service. May God bless and protect you.

Excellent work as always!
What’s with the blurred out rectangle near the front of the building and Squad 5A?
Great job, Steve, as always!

why not stay at one vantage point for more than 20 seconds at a time, like maybe 20 minutes or so?
What's the busiest Truck at CFD?
Man sure seems like I always see Tower Ladder 34 doing a lot of work. That would be a great gig.

Why aren't any of these guys wearing tanks? Just a question, not a criticism.
