those new rosenbauer Squads are a beauty, love the way cfd has grey/and or silver roll up doors mixed with the red ,also the roll up doors above the front wheels look cool as well.

You have no idea what you are talking about. They are the largest manufacturer of fire apparatus in the world. I see their equipment around the world as I travel. They make great stuff.

Actually chicago had a lot of problems getting these new squad rigs out

Rosenbauer had to design the ACP 55 from scratch for the Chicago order. Nobody was offering a Snorkel-type product when Chicago went to bid on the squad replacements and Rosenbauer was the only MFR to step up and try to make one. Smeal/Ladder Tower brought back the Snorkel® in the time since then but theirs have had problems too.

Can anyone explain to me why they had a tower ladder on side A in use and they stopped it, moved it so the Squad could get in there and basically do the exact same thing? It seemed to be a waste of time. I was not there so I am simply asking, please, no one get ass hurt caused I asked this question.

Chicago squad does what they want and if they get called they are priority units on scene.

Could have made a lot of mileage with the deck gun from 46.

If it was supplying the TL, using the deck gun might divert too much pressure away from it...

Our city has squirts. Its a engine similar 2 yr snorkels instead of a bucket. It has a nozzle on the end.It pumps it own water plus it doesn't need 2 guys on the back of it.We also have snorkel's but they r like yr spare snorkel.I just think that the mini snorkel is kinda of a waste it can't pump water plus still needs 2guys now if it was a QUINT snorkel that would b sick.I know that piece was not cheap not saying it doesn't 2 the job but it's a mini snorkel.....

Chicago's snorkel units are part of a 2 piece rescue squad. that is why their snorkels are smaller than normal ones. that is also why this snorkel is called 5A, 5B is another rig, it is the size of a medium Rescue truck.

Chicago's snorkel unit is part of a 2 part rescue squad company. That is why this snorkel is smaller than normal ones. That is also why this unit is called Squad 5A, Squad 5 is the second piece that goes with this unit. It is the size of a medium Rescue truck. Both units respond together on calls.

There is no need for the squad units to be quints, there is, suffice to say, no shortage of engines in Chicago to handle that! Also, adding a pump module, even something like a Pierce PUC, means something else would have to come out. The Squad units are paired small-body units by intent, for mobility purposes. You saw how they were able to back it directly up to side A (a little too close, if you ask me, a bit of distance would given them more room to maneuver around the power lines, minor tactical error). You can sneak the -A unit (the snorkel) into an alley to attack a burning back deck, do high-angle & tech rescues, etc. They are far more than just smaller water towers. The other half, a walk-in squad, serves as the "mobile toolbox", carrying, among other things, an inflatable raft and outboard motor for water rescues. Chicago Squads can tackle literally any special operations scenario, or act as manpower for specialized units like Dive Rescue (6-8-7), Collapse Rescue (5-2-1), Tunnel Rescue (5-2-6), etc.
