Very often women who refuse to pay has some emotional issues whereby they use money to call it even. This was they don’t feel “emotionally obligated”. They use money as a cover, so they can control other emotional and physical aspects of a relationship. On a first date I would feel really uncomfortable if my date paid for both of us. It makes me feel like I owe him something before I've had a chance to get to know him that well, and if I don't like him that much I'll end up feeling guilty for turning down a second date if he paid for the first date. Splitting the bill levels the playing field, no one feels like they owe the other person anything, and there's no financial power-play.

Women are biologically primed to seek out providers as it will ensure she and any offspring they may have are in good hands. (If he can't afford to pay for a lousy meal he is not going to be able to afford to take care of a family) A man with strong masculine energy will feel an innate urge to provide and a woman with strong feminine energy will be okay with receiving. If it was merely a polite gesture and she wouldn't have gone on another date unless the guy paid for it, she wasn't attracted to her date enough to remain in an LTR, anyway.
In both cases, there's nothing to lose. People should just go Dutch at first and see how it goes afterwards.
It's understandable if someone wants to be dignified as an adult and refuse someone's offer to pay something completely within their budget, however emphatically. One date is hardly enough opportunity to determine long term commitment, so it's hard to blame a woman to be uncomfortable about a man's insistence that he pay as if it somehow will make a woman feel more obligated to go on another date with him.

I've heard multiple women say, if they're not interested in their date then they will insist on splitting/not letting him pay because it frees them of any perceived obligation to see them again.

I suppose initially offering shows courtesy, but if a lady was this concerned about it, I know we wouldn't get a long and would have no future. I'd consider myself old school, pay for dinner, walk the lady to her door, give her my jacket and all the other malark, but if she kicked up a fuss about paying, I dread to think what she'd be like down the road. No bad thing being capable of being independent, but research suggests women are much happier when they are stay at home wives with kids, and a woman like that seems like she doesn't wanna follow that path. Of course that's not applicable to all women, but as a man, that's the sorta lady I want. Excuse my rambling, tis late and I've had a lack of sleep as of recent haha
Geo You're right - I am overthinking. Nonetheless, I'd have a hard time. As I said previously (albeit in too many words - that damn overthinking), her being that defiant would tell me from the get go that it wouldn't work. Perhaps I was raised too traditionally. Hard to let go of what's been drilled in to you since your first breath however.
