Arek
The thing about it it's that this fugue is a permutation fugue. It is a kind of fugue and it's not homophonic! Look for "Permutation Fugues" in Wikipedia Like it says: "There is usually very little non-structural/thematic material"
While your observation is somewhat accurate...and I might point out that the word you sought to use is "homophonic"...it doesn't automatically make the piece boring. Bach explored many compositional ideas and forms, and he was a master...perhaps THE master...of the fugue. The other two sections are very different, and the toccata is an excellent example of that type of work. Have you ever played this? Just curious.
a VERY long time ago (1970s), I transcribed the adagio for oboe and strings (and played it on oboe). I thought then (and still do) that oboe and strings would capture the feeling pretty well. Unfortunately, the transcription was lost long ago, but I still can picture it in my mind when hearing the adagio.
Sorry for my bad english. "And c'mon, the toccata is terribly boring too"... Yes, maybe it's boring, but whos to blame? The composer or the organists? I believe he wrote the toccata only to impress people, and at that time he really did! Near everybody who play this piece today, try to make music of the pedal solo, it's a mistake! You have to play the piece near as fast as possible, then someone will be impress even today.
Na ja. Ich hatte nicht so viel Glück und ich denke, wir alle (wer die Orgel spielen kann) sollte unsere eigene Meinung, wie jeder Zusammensetzung gespielt oder zu interpretieren ist.
I'll give you that. In this case, you're right. If this were to be played fast as shit, it would sound muuuuch cooler and less boring. Still, I prefer the fugues in which the harmony really comes out, like the organ C Major, and the Gedalge treatise of fugue makes a nice study/analisys of this fugue's episodes. I recognize everything that people are saying about this piece, but it still lacks harmonic spice and melodic erotism. The subject sounds like indian music, put the audience to sleep
One of the most creative???? Are you f***ing serious?? Really?? You see, that's the problem when talking to fans... they become blinded by their fanatism. Just the other day I was talking to girl whose favorite band was Bon Jovi and she was convinced that they were Earth's greatest musicians ever, and she was willing to try to convince me. You guys in classical music sometimes sound the same. Bach was a genius, but he surely wrote his share of shit, but for you guys everything is a masterpiece
English is not my native language. And I never said that makes the piece boring. My favorite Bach's fugue is the well tempered klavier G# minor, 1st book, and that a total homophonic piece, barely a fugue, but still a great piece of music. And c'mon, the toccata is terribly boring too. You seem a reasonable person, you'd admit that! Those long long monophonic phrases seem like a insanity test! Nope, never played this... I'm a composer.
00:00 Preludium
05:33 Adagio
09:53 Fuga

Das waren für uns DDR-Bürger großartige Aufnahmen, die Bachorgelwerke auf Silbermannorgeln.
I absolutely love this. It's one of my favorites. Only Bach can get away with such a stark contrast between the Adagio and the Fugue!
This piece is so difficult but so amazing

Ottima esecuzione, ottima scelta dei registri

Enfin, elle est bien jouée. Bravo à l'organiste.
i love it!!!! Long live bach
Adagio (my favorite part) starts around 5:35.
Partition du pédalier très riche . Quelle science musicale ce J.S. Bach.!!

I like the Toccata, but I think this registration for the Adagio lends it an eerie sound which is alien to (my experience of) Bach.
Agreed. Maybe its the recording, though. Still would have preferred something softer and definitely no tremolo.
This could be illegal, its sounds like honey tastes.

This so hilarious! Bach's musical joke. Incredible!

I would have played the middle section a little less loud ! In fact, much much less loud !
I strongly dislike the register he used in Adagio.
This is the most illegal fugue Bach has composed lol
