I still find Steve Howe elegant and an amazing musician. He has this gentle but clear speaking voice.
Haha I love Steve in the beginning...he's like "guys why the fuck are we being so formal."
I've heard from people who've met him that he's a grouchy guy, not very nice.

Just glad they're all still alive! Chris Squire's passing was a real bummer. It sucks watching people who have so much to offer spiritually, age and die. Damn human body! It *should* last a couple of centuries, anyway.
Saw YES 7/16/14 at Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom, in New Hampshire and they played the entire Fragile and Close to the Edge LP's, All the songs were sequential, music spot on, great vocal harmonies. Only disheartening issue was they were without Jon Anderson.

To be fair, I think Steve has had cancer? Thought I'd read that once, but I may be wrong. I know he's vegetarian. Hmmmm. Maybe I should try that! Could stand to shed some pounds, myself!
How sad it is that so much tasteless and carping criticism predominates the many useless and vapid comments posted here. Everyone ages, as will all of the smug and immature commentors here ultimately will. Instead of invalidating these fine artists, they should be lauded for their tenacity to continue to create, in spite of their aging or cosmetic imperfections. Shame on all of you for your arrogance and obvious inability to see beyond the body, and embrace the spirit of creativity and technical expertise which knows no age; qualities most of you couldn't ever hope to realize in your meager little world of spectatorism. How much talent and competance is required in criticizing the doers of this world, from a watcher's point of view. Very little I would suspect. Get a life people, and lay off those who really have one, in spite of pot bellys, hair loss, and wrinkles. It is the spirit of creation that transcends bodies, and the aging thereof.
Craig Marsden Have you seen their performance? It's like they're just going through the motions. Being legends, they should also know when to stop. It is extremely difficult material, but looking at them in the concert it doesn't even look like they're enjoying it much.
drewbacsi I will have to disagree. I don't know when or where you saw them live, but my wife and I have seen YES three times in the last two years, and we were EXTREMELY enamored by their performances. That being said, with Chris now gone, it will be that much more of a challenge. But I believe Billy Sherwood to be up for the challenge. And why should they EVER stop? I'm 64, a professional musician myself, and plan to be writing, recording, and performing until I fucking drop dead. It is my passion, just as it is theirs. The day anyone stops living their dreams and passions, is the day they are TRULY DEAD, not when they take their last breath.

Forget it, this is no YES. this is ASIA, and if you know YES you know that well. They shouln use the YES name now, when Chris is gone. IN the pass they have made an record and concert and Could´s use the YES name Because Chris wasn´t there. The name should pass to Jon. Jon and Chris are the YES founders If Jon get toguether with Rick, Trevor, Tony, Brufor.... Can you get a name for this? are we going to have two YES??

Yes WAS great, Yes IS dead... This video is evidence of that. Apparently Jon Anderson lives on. I saw a recent video of him and he is still vibrant and pleasant to hear. Squire, please pull the plug.
Very very sad. I adored Yes but this incarnation is a tenth-rate WMC tribute. It's hugely undignified.

A few years and pounds ago, Geoff could have almost played the part of Jame Gumb in Silence Of the Lambs! Eerie resemblance.

No disrespect intended, but I hope that Geoff gets his weight under better control. Belly fat is irritating to the cardio-vascular system and eventually leads to heart attacks and strokes, as was either the case, or nearly the case with his Asia band-member John Wetton.

Like many of the great artists of the era, it is knowing when to stop. Mind you not much has come after to take over. These guys were brilliant in their day, Steve Howe could take his place among the guitar greats. But hell yes, retire!
Alan played on only one Album showed, Geoff played on none of them.

Just saw him perform with YES this summer (2016). I can guarantee you that he doesn't SOUND like his water is about to break. He was freakin' awesome. That's the only thing that matters.

The problem with the type of music Yes and other bands from the sixties and seventies play is that it's associated with youth, good times, getting off etc. etc. and to see these men now - old and tired - is almost an embarrassment much the same way that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, McCartney, Dylan, Ozzy etc. are all embarrassments now. You just can't stay in this game once you're past a certain age. Why do you think people like Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison are so legendary? Because they died young and never got old, that's why. Howe looks especially decrepit, as does White. Fade away, you guys. You had a good run. Let it go.
wow thank christ geoff, steve and alan have such a astute advisor in you. i'm sure upon reading your comment they will be rushing off to contact their business managers and announcing their formal retirement, per your esteemed instructions. btw- hendrix was great in 68-69. after blackmore, zappa, howe(and a few others) came into their own around 73, not many educated listeners really thought about hendrix much anymore, not even 2 years after his death. by 75 he was a distant memory in 1970s radio dj and houseparty playlists. only a pop culture slave, vh1 watching bieber poster stapler would swallow the narrative that hendrix was the beginning and end of rock guitar and deserves canonization for the feat of drowning himself in his own whiskey and quaalude vomit at 27. most of his better material died an uneventful death on fm rock radio 15 years ago. perhaps you missed it. i won't even bother addressing joplin and morrison. if you put either one of them in a higher class of musical artistry than any of the 'embarrassing' old men(with the possible exception of Downes) featured here, in terms of talent, musical influence and discography, then you're an even more daft, one dimemsional pop thinker than you exposed yourself to be in your original post. now, go and find some alanis morrisette, jewel, pink or gwen stefani tribute vids. lord knows you wouldn't want to encourage 'young' eternal talents such as they to retire. even though you indeed did for 3 of the top 20 progressive musicians in recorded rock history. youtube, i swear..
brianodeci08 Argh...dont take putzes like that so seriously. I agree though, ppl put way too much stock into Hendrix like he's the god father of all things guitar. He couldnt even make with the Isleys. Band Of Gypsies is incomplete, overwrought ethnic blues music for hipsters and musical contrarians. Axis Bold As Love is a minor masterpiece I will admit. After that, and like you said, how many times do you have to hear 'Hey Joe' or 'Foxy Lady' on KDUM radio for the 1300th time or butchered by shit bands at the local bar, to know that those songs have more than run their course in continuing relevance?
Never really gave the Doors or Morrison too much thought, tbh. They seem like a proto version of RHCP to me. Both from L.A.. Both horrendously over documented and over promoted. And both have very good underemployed musicians at every position other than singer. But, since the singer is designated as the spearhead and 'heartthrob', Keidis to Morrison, they get turned into an icon for basically being mediocre to poor, while taking residence in a above average band. Was forced to read most or all of Morrison's 'poetry' outside of his Doors lyrics in a UCLA musicology class once. I literally fell asleep. Meanwhile the poptart coffee house chicks swooned. Must have just been me.
Hoyt Axton was a great songwriter. Jimmy Webb was a great songwriter. Morrison was a fair to poor songwriter, even for the 1960s. But, when you have chisel-faced Caliboy good looks preceding you, your legacy gets grossly overstated. Joplin? Meh. White chicks screeching predictable blues doesnt really do it for me. I will say that I always oddly felt that Robert Plant sort of nicked her style during his years(singing predictable blues lol), in Zeppelin. But I really don't know enough about either ones chronology to say definitively whether or not that is even remotely true.
too much time examining this shit. if a song or band is good and you like it, you like it. if you don't you don't. i like about 50% of the doors songs, jimi tew. i wouldn't give up the mortgage on my house to prove my loyalty to them, but sheesh. that being said, i would say jimi gets slightly overrated from all the airplay, documentaries(woodstock, VH1 specials, ect). so of course, younger folks are gonna put medals on him as an guitar pioneer. which he in fact was, but not to the extent that a lay music listener may think he was. all the tortured artist routine that morrison went thru could also wear pretty thin, if you were living at that time(which i was..yes im old). but still in all krieger, manzarek, the gravity of the tunes with or without jim, were still pretty auspicious and unique you have to admit. altho now that i think about it, the chili peppers/doors analogy is pretty hilarious and spot on in a lot of ways. but if i had that faggot a.kiedis and jimmy morrison alone in a room with only one bullet, kiedis gets it everytime. that guy is fucking talentless, arrogant and uber anoying. he's the glom on nothing singer with abs from every garage band we ever knew in HS that always got the hot chick, for a few minutes anwyays. great band carrying an amateur singer, like other dude said. also, "point break". fuck my life who told that guy he could act? he's the pauly shore of music and movies, lol.
What would you like them to do with themselves? Retiring is for people who give up on life. They're musicians, they like to make music.
