I have to agree with Ripley. The Omega Aqua Terra is one of the most underrated timepieces around. I have a vast variety of watches. I always go back to the Aqua Terra. The same blue dial you have shown. It’s really a great watch.
Why does it "get your vote." Which DJ do you own. I have a DJ41 with Azzuro blue Dial and no Omega comes close in looks, presence, prestige, iconic status and value retention.

If I were limited to a one watch collection, it’d be my Rolex Explorer II (“Polar” dial) Ref# 226570. I’ve taken off the OEM bracelet and have a variety of leather and rubber straps (with quick release pins) that allow dressing it up or down in just a couple minutes. The GMT function makes this daily driver perfect for travel too!
I have both Santos de Cartier large stainless and 2 tone models and agree they are amazing watches. The technologies of the quick swith and smart link systems are unrivaled on the liuxury watch industry. Ive ordered muktiple straps and the different combinnations possible blows me away! I also love the Rolex watches in my collection. But It's been a cutting into my Rolexes' wrist time in a very fun way. I hope you enjoy wearing your Santos in excellent health.
Have to go with Team Ripley. And I own a great two tone Datejust II that I absolutely love, but I think Ripley’s arguments were stronger. Omega is an incredible brand as good quality as Rolex and quite a bit more affordable. Tons of features that make it really cool too. Well done Ripley! That being said I would still go Omega Speedmaster moon watch over both! I mean it’s the Speedie and it literally saved astronauts lives…. Nuff said
Datejust and Aquatera are both excellent choices but I would suggest moving over to the Grand Seiko counter and pick out the case, dial, and movement option that suits you best. Mine is my SBGP007 60th Anniversary LE that cost me less than half of the Datejust or Aquatera plus its accurate to 5 seconds per year.
1 watch collection for me: Blancpain 50 fathoms 42.3 is elegant and a diver. My wrist check, weekend at home watch: Certina DS Blue Ribbon 300M quartz on bracelet.
Another vote for the Explorer. My two tone Explorer is my daily wearer and my favorite out of my current collection. If I were to keep only one it would be the Explorer. Its so versatile that I dont ever have to take it off.
At nkuwan it's not just a watch; it's an art piece. Each design is crafted with unique inspiration and craftsmanship. The exquisite production process reveals not just a watch, but a fashionable feast for the senses.
Solid choice! The DJ36 with a black dial, Jubilee bracelet, and fluted bezel is the definition of timeless elegance. It's versatile enough to be your one and only-whether dressed up or down, it’ll always look sharp. Classic Rolex styling at its best!
For this particular debate, I’d probably go DJ because it has more history and is more well known. I would argue that the DJ has way more options than the AT. You can get different metals, colorways, bracelets and different dials! If I had a typical fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet which is on the dressy side, I could also have a smooth bezel and oyster bracelet for the sporty watch!
Currently wearing my stunning green Longines Spirit 42mm. I just can't stop looking at it and I've seriously neglected the rest of my collection since picking it up a few months ago.
My first watch over 10 years was supposed to be my 1-watch collection (of course that never happened). I bought the Breguet Type XX. I still have it and still think it's beautiful. Would never sell. However, if I was just starting my watch journey now, I would choose the Rolex Sub 14060M as my 1-watch collection.
Rolex Explorer 1 is the obvious champ here. The only Rolex I own and the only one I want. All my other watches lean to one purpose…casual, sporty, dress
Aqua Terra any day, everyday. More competent, infinitely more versatile. If its the only watch, then get me something that displays the movement. DJ is just a stepping stone towards a Sub (or 1 of many stepping stones towards, maybe, eventually, approximately, a GMT Master II). Thats if you do not mind the unwanted colours.
Love nkuwan the way you show it! You really focus on showing off the watch. I don't think any other RUclipsr can show off watches in as much detail as you.
Hmmm can it really be a collection if it’s only one watch ?! The pride of my collection is a Rolex 116610LV ‘Hulk’, but to answer the question my ultimate piece would be the Patek 5270P salmon dial perpetual calendar. Not gonna happen in this lifetime but dreams are free
"Collection" was more of a formality for the discussion. Clearly, 1 item isn't a collection. Your one-watch-forever suggestion is a stunning choice. Thanks for sharing!
I wear my Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute Ref. A12023, which had a limited production run in 1995/96. It features a display back that showcases the 1877 Lemania movement. I own five more Breitlings, three of which have the in-house B01 movement. I love Breitling. However, if I could only have one watch, it would be my Glashütte Original SeaQ Panoramadate. It's the best sports watch ever made.
I have to go with the Rolex Datejust. My first significant watch was a 1987 Rolex OysterQuartz Datejust which I wore daily for decades (even on deployment to the desert during my AF career) and which I still have and wear today. Perfect for daily wear. Perfect for an evening out. Oh, please don't diss the OysterQuartz! It is still a truly wonderful Rolex timepiece.
Emily here, I personally LOVE the Rolex OysterQuartz. So it's wonderful to hear you've enjoyed it for years in a variety of situations. Another "forever" vote for Rolex!
@@whereRbearsTeeth Well, that is indeed true, but that is indeed a pessimistic view. After 35+ years of wear (continuous for 30 years or so), it continues to provide perfect time. I love that double wristing wasnt enough with the guy… nooo emergency 3rd watch the omega AT! Noway he can actually pull off a one watch collection lol
Sorry guys, but "one" of anything is NOT a collection. How do I know? I was a one watch guy for 32+ years of the 40 years I've owned my Pepsi 16750. When I purchased my GMT Master in 1983, I had the chance to get both a Daytona 6263 and a Submariner 5513. I reasoned who needs two let alone three Rolex watches? As a professional pilot and a trained Industrial Designer, I've always been drawn to pilot/ travel watches and the icons of watchmaking. When I discovered watch collecting in 2018, I began the "collecting" journey by getting a Speedy Pro 1861 and a Reverso Grand 976... Now that's a collection. So one watch is a watch, two watches are a pair and at three curated items is when you start a collection. So just stop with the "one watch collection" phrase. Oh, and BTW, once you have multiple watches good luck going back to just one. It's rarely if ever going to happen.
You're not wrong! We prefaced the conversation with the word being hard to stomach given one watch doesn't warrant a collection. But, this was the best way to organize the sentiment. As for the debate itself: love hearing your journey to collecting. Your trio sounds fantastic. But your 16750 for 32+ years is the perfect detail to note. Thank you for all of your feedback!
@@bobswatches Thanks for the reply and the great topic. The story of my GMT Pepsi is even better as I purchased it as a young Marine Corps Captain at the China Fleet Club [the British Military Exchange] in Hong Kong while on Christmas leave. They were world renowned for selling Rolex to any military serviceman for 50% of the USA retail price, so most folks made the effort to get to Hong Kong to buy a Rolex. Also, factor in an additional 10% Christmas sale for the entire Far East Military Exchange system. Want to know what I paid? Look up the USA retail price of a 16750 in late 1983, divide by 2 and then takeoff another 10%. Let's see how close you can guess. BTW, no sales tax in Hong Kong. If you're stumped, the answer is in my Collector Conversation with Tim Mosso last April, along with my standard line to anyone who asks if my Rolex is real. 😉 As far as what I'm wearing, it's my steel, black dial Sky Dweller on a custom Ostrich leg leather strap. My retirement watch as an airline pilot in 2020.
Some convincing arguments in both directions. If you are buying your one forever watch. Nothing beats the feeling of walking into an AD and being be first owner. (Nothing against Bobs watches) but it is really nice to have your name on the warranty card. I also like and didn’t know the Seamaster had a jumping hour hand, that’s pretty cool. However, I think the Datejust with the on the fly expansion to the bracelet, the tighter tolerance movement and the date magnifier do make it pretty nice to live with. So if I were buying one watch to live with, between the two, that’s a tough choice. However for the last 6 years my submariner had been my watch of choice, just one watch every day, I did try others, but sold them off and happily came back to my submariner. My submariner even has 100,000 miles on my wrist riding my motorcycle all over the country. I just recently got a two tone rootbeer GMT. I have to say though, the sub was very easy to be my one watch for 6 years, the main reason I got a new watch and picked the GMT is because I got a new job and I travel quite a bit more. So having that jumping hour hand is sort of nice and being able to keep my home time on the GMT hand it sort of nice and it is very close in size and shape to my sub.
Agreed. If you're only ever going to own one watch, it pretty much has to be a Rolex. In this case the DateJust wins, but you called it, the Oystersteel Sub is a better all around choice if you are only going to have one watch.
The Submariner is such a valid contender in this "one watch" debate. Congrats on your upgrade to the GMT, it sounds like a perfect companion for your travel but still having a pulse on home. Thanks for the the thoughtful breakdown of your view on this challenging debate!
The last 10 years of the internet [RUclips] has pretty much destroyed the notion of just 'one watch'. This is a notion of a time long past, a time I know well as I lived through this [1969-2018], and I was that guy.
My first luxury watch was the Aqua Terra but the bracelet didn’t have a Tfit, it’s lume was subpar and it felt top heavy. I think my mint green smooth 41 mm Datejust wins. Then I picked up the Starbucks submariner and now life is good. Yeah one watch. Not!!!!
Haha, sounds like you're living the dream with that mint green Datejust and Starbucks Sub! One watch? Yeah, right - who are we kidding? It’s more like "just the beginning" of the collection! I bet the Datejust is your daily hero, while the Sub gives you that "I mean business" vibe when needed!
Aqua Terra wins because: 1. time zone function (insanely practical: especially if one travels regionally (e.g. From London to Amsterdam and back)) 2. very interesting dial design, teak deck 3. superior capability and engineering (antimagnetism, double barrel, coaxial, etc etc etc) 4. when you wear the aqua terra, it is because you chose it. if you wear the datejust, it's because the market chose it for you, likely. and if i have to live with one watch, id like to think that i have a part in selecting what i should want to wear on my wrist for many years to come. so yes, i think wearing the aqua terra feels a bit more special, not to mention it being more capable.
For me rolex and omegabare great watches, but for the same price i realy prefer the rolex,i think omega have to give more for less than rolex, because even if they are good watch, rolex have a more iconic image,a lot of people will look your wrist and say wuaa look at this rolex, not hapen with an omega, everybody look a nice mercedes in the street not an opel, opel is probably good as a mercedes but dont have the same reputation...
The Vacheron Constantin Overseas 4520V with a silver dial is a stunning piece! Its combination of elegance and sporty design makes it incredibly versatile. I'm wearing my Day Date 18238 while I watch this debate. My vote goes to the Rolex.
Awesome wrist check! +1 for Rolex in the debate.
I own the very Aqua Terra you showed - the BEST! Good choice!
Love this! Another point for OMEGA from a true owner/wearer.
Love the Aqua terra but prefer the date just.
Two great watches. +1 for the Rolex Datejust
Gotta go with the Omega here
+1 for Omega!
As far as what I'm wearing, it's my steel, black dial Sky Dweller on a custom Ostrich leg leather strap. My retirement watch as an airline pilot in 2020.
I’ll go for the Rolex date just u can’t beat it
Great pick. +1 for Datejust!
The best one watch collection on planet earth is a Rolex sub date. End of debate.
Awesome choice with the Submariner (with a date). Another point for Team Rolex!
No
Some convincing arguments in both directions.
Love it!
not a fan of shark tooth dial and butterfly bracelet of aquaterra. i'll pick datejust in white dial flat bezel.
+1 for the Datejust!
Currently wearing aqua terra small seconds, silver dial ,blued steel indices
My one watch Collection would be my omega speedmaster sapphire sandwich
Two fantastic watches. Another forever watch vote with the Speedmaster-so good!
Aqua Terra all the way! White small seconds.
Love it! Team OMEGA Aqua Terra!
The last 10 years of the internet [RUclips] has pretty much destroyed the notion of just 'one watch'. This is a notion of a time long past, a time I know well as I lived through this [1969-2018], and I was that guy.
thanks for your perspective!
Wearing the new Explorer 1 40mm
Another vote for the Explorer, great choice!
VC Overseas would be my pick
Wow, what a watch! Thanks for sharing your pick with us.
Grand Seiko Koda Constant Force Turbillon
1963 Omega Seamaster 30

G Shock G-5000U or Citizen bn0211-50e
Love the choices! Thanks for sharing.
Wearing my … Omega Aqua Terra 41 in blue
You've got great taste! Thanks for watching
Rolex 17000 black dial circa 1988
The Datejust Oysterquartz, what a great watch!
Wearing a Explorer 2
Lovely wrist check!
Aqua Terra wins because:
1. time zone function (insanely practical: especially if one travels regionally (e.g. From London to Amsterdam and back))
2. very interesting dial design, teak deck
3. superior capability and engineering (antimagnetism, double barrel, coaxial, etc etc etc)
4. when you wear the aqua terra, it is because you chose it. if you wear the datejust, it's because the market chose it for you, likely. and if i have to live with one watch, id like to think that i have a part in selecting what i should want to wear on my wrist for many years to come. so yes, i think wearing the aqua terra feels a bit more special, not to mention it being more capable.
So many pros for the Aqua Terra! Thanks for voting.
Great to hear your perspective! +1 for Team Rolex!
One all time watch Rolex 1803. Easy
This Day-Date, a fantastic 1-watch suggestion!
@@bobswatches I love mine. 13ct diamond bracelet with pie pan dial
Vacheron Constantin Overseas 4520v Silver Dial
The Vacheron Constantin Overseas 4520V with a silver dial is a stunning piece! Its combination of elegance and sporty design makes it incredibly versatile. The silver dial adds a sophisticated touch, and the overall craftsmanship is truly exceptional. It's a watch that embodies luxury while still being suitable for everyday wear. 🙌
Rolex all the way!
+1 For Rolex!
I've owned both, AT for me. Buy an extra half link for perfect fit!
Love it! Tea OMEGA Aqua Terra
Norqain Neverest GMT
Awesome watch. Thanks for sharing your wrist check!
This is ridiculous. You guys are arguing for one watch collection of datejust versus an aqua terra? Absolutely ridiculous.

The lady doesn’t have a clue about watches ! She is just winging it
Datejust
Team Datejust!
No such thing as a collection of anything being a single example.
You're not wrong. But we prefaced this at the beginning of the video... for the sake of the debate topic, we summarized one-watch-forever as a "one watch collection." What gets your vote?
Okay, I'll play: Submariner Date, ten different models.
nkuwan I love you so much and watching your videos makes my day brighter
