Roxy Music's influence on the music that came after it is severely underrated. The violinist there is named Eddie Jobson and he is playing an electric violin made of plexiglass that today is housed at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. When you're ready for more from Roxy Music, check out some of these tunes -- "The Thrill Of It All", "The Main Thing", "Love Is The Drug", "Dance Away", "Angel Eyes", and "Sea Breezes" among many others.

Roxy Music were a truly pioneering band pushing the frontiers of music. Bryan sang in a kind of avant-garde performance art style in the early years of the band. I've seen Bryan perform live three times now up close and personal. And met him for a chat once. He truly is an awesome performer on stage and never fails to wow the fans.

Now you gotta start checking out some Bryan Ferry solo stuff. I love his crooner voice.

Mid 70s Roxy is my fav incarnation of the band. The violinist was a studio wiz. Polar opposite of Eno

Fun to watch and hear some live performances on RUclips with Brian Eno on analog synth and tape manipulation before he left the band, and to compare the songs and the sound with performances like this from after that, with Eddie Jobson on keys and violin. Eno has commented in an interview that his favourite Roxy Music album was Stranded, recorded after he had left the band and instead featuring Jobson.
Starting with the eponymous first LP and listening through the fifth one, Siren (with Jerry Hall in the cover photo), shows a band going through an amazing evolution in just five years. And after several years off, the core of the band reformed to record three more LPs, ending with Avalon, with a very different sound palette from where they had started.

@@parissimons6385 Jobson came from curved where he replaced two charismatic multi-insrumentalists (Francis Monkman, Daryl Way) who were a big deal.....the reason Ferry grabbed him was because he could overdub a string section by himself. He was still in high school. When Roxy Music broke up he went to the Zappa band.... I wished Jobson remained Roxy but he was a regular in the mid 70s collaboratives with Manzanera, MacKay, Eno, Cale, Fripp, Simon Phillips, Cale, Wyatt, Spending, Nico, Daryl Hall, etc.
