@@roxymusique9596 Just having another look at this list. I would take off 'Psalm' 'Just Another High' 'Beauty Queen', and 'Serenade'. Of those four songs the only one I actually like is 'Serenade' but although I think it's a good song I'm not sure if it belongs in the top 30. I would replace those four with (not in any particular order) 'Casanova' 'Bitter-Sweet' 'Sunset' and 'Chance Meeting'. I'm particularly surprised that 'Bitter-Sweet' and "Casanova' didn't make the list.

The opening with the oboe came in on the radio and the station wasn’t coming in clear. I stopped what I was doing and immediately began recording on tape and when I heard Bryan Ferry’s unmistakeable voice, it was like hearing something from another time. The violins outro is everything. I imagined a bird racing through the sky, zig zagging and then disappearing in a flash.
Roxy music, often described as underrated, no they are not , they are rated very highly. What they are is underapreciated . How this band never made it big time really big time in America is something of a mystery, they do indeed have a large following in America, but not as big as they should have, but with guys like you showpiecing them then maybe they might get more attention. It just leaves me to say that without doubt Roxy Music are one of the best and most influential bands to come out of the UK for me they are fan funkin tactic , love them , Ferry us a genius..
Roxy Music were a massive, stylish, unique band that were also style icons as well as fantastic musicians in the U.K. All their songs are great, try Street Life, Pyjamarama,, Same Old Scene and the many others. This one, Out of The Blue is my favourite., BW
I'm a big Hawkwind fan and I've always loved Roxy. The first time I heard this I was astounded because it sounds so much like a song called Assault And Battery from Hawkwind's 1975 album Warrior On The Edge Of Time. Trust me, the resemblance is uncanny. Country Life the album this came from was 1974. Hawkwind had to be listening to Roxy.
Don't know if anyone has mentioned it but Bryan Ferry founded the band. He was always going to be the frontman and singer and not just keys The first couple of albums were all his songs. Phil and Andy started having co-writes with him from the third album onwards.
Saw Roxy preform this song on the Midnight Special and you are right about Eddy Jobson. He played an electric violin solo on this soaring song. After I went out and bought the album "Country Life" I would have been 15 years old at the time wanting to hear the whole album and the entire record is just as good. I amazed my friends who really thought this record was innovative as each one walked in the room the first thing they asked was "Who is this?" (in a good way) In my opinion "Country Life" is best Roxy album with everything clicking on all cylinders.💙

This influenced pretty much all New Romantic (Duran Duran's whole oeuvre derives from this one song) and much of 80s synth pop. To think it is from the early 70s. Genius. Roxy Music is the most underrated band of all time.
After I dropped our reaction, I watched Ferry being interviewed a few years back by CBS, and Mackay's name was addressed the right way. And I immediately thought 'Uh Oh.'

BF sold out imo - the style and grace he possessed with the first 6 Roxy albums evaporated post during release of Flesh & B, albeit a goodish album it's c/rap compared to the previous masterpieces. In your mind..yep good..again, low grade in comparison to the genuine Roxy stuff. The 80's albums are unlistenable for me and cheap poppy pop, fine if you wanted to make tonnes of cash I suppose...which as a solo artist he did by the bucket load LOL.
So why is no more phasing effects used? Has analogue hardware/mixing equipment changed so much? Or is it considered being too cheesy? What have we lost and why? Or do we are surrounded by lame dullbrainz at the controls?
Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Roxy Music are the absolute heights of pop music development in the last fifty years of which most others aspire too.

The "viva roxy music!" live version of this song is in my opinion the best recording of this song. The live atmosphere makes it so powerful.

I’d recommend Editions of you, both ends burning, and Every Dream home a heartache...pretty much anything from their first five albums is a classic!
