This is a real Hapless mission. Focus on intel and thoughtful planning, clear goals, and plentiful time. Really helps your plentiful strengths shine through.
This is eassily the best, most interesting campaign in SF2 IMO. Good change of pace from the usual mechanized steamrolling you get from the other campaigns.
After watching your difficulties with Scottish Corridor, I’m sure this campaign will feel like a breath of fresh air. Best of luck… the next mission just feels like they told you to take the gloves off and have at OPFOR!
For me the T-54 was between the resort and the V-shaped trench. I also didn't know you could get the squad that starts on the right side of the river across it at the beach, I thought I had to push them through the town where they got bogged down in firefights. Both DDGs missed my attempts to hit the tank with their precision munitions and I never got anywhere near the bridge. Great production value on this video - that was a super nice touch with the briefing - and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the campaign!
I'm excited you're starting a Shock Force 2 campaign! One of my fav CM titles. I really enjoyed your intro / analysis / briefing and AAR of the mission. Well done.
I loved this mission. It’s very different from a typical combat mission scenario, which a lot of times can break things. It worked really well for this mission and also really helps you get to grips with spotting, movement, use of indirect fires and precision indirect fires, etc
I’ve known off this game for awhile but never really cared to much but for some reason felt the need to click on and watch this video to the end and now wanna see the rest of the campaign I don’t what you did but keep it up.
I am extremely excited for this series! I've really wanted to see you do an SF2 campaign for a long time, so I am pumped to see you tackle the USMC campaign! Keep up the great work!!
I have played every Campaign in ShockForce 2 at least 2 sometimes 3 times. All of them are very well done. In this Mission, I had all my forces together except 1 FO, who traveled from BLZ White 2 North to White Center hitting those objectives. I then had the rest Reconoiter the Town as we sometimes engaged the enemy, with having superior NVGs we got the better of them. While the Recon Marines were finding targets. (Keeping them tight not to fire by having almost zero fire arc) they could spot targets for the FOs to reign in hell. The Marines could then suppress and then destroy the enemy. When the Marines crossed NAI 03 the other FO joined the group. It was a fun mission carefully completed. (I knew I would run into more stuff on the Right, but did not feel like being sandwiched between a City and a Resort area in completely open ground. As a Marine Vet, yes I was looking for a fight and a fight we got by using the Right side) In the end 3 men were slightly wounded (Yellow) but carried on. Semper Fi. uhhh Raaah! GhostRider3/3
I also believe there are a couple enemy AI plans as well. The T-55 static tank was adjacent to the V trench line near the bunker and resort area for me and also had a patrol that wondered and stayed in the grove near BLZ White 2. I did get lucky in town but had enough small arms and or shelling to take care of the enemy.
Love seeing high-speed - low-drag operator stuff from you, sir! The detail and care put into briefien takes the prize, of course. You have outdone yourself again.
Love the CM series and have learned so much from your videos to make the gameplay so much more enjoyable. You should definitely do a mod review for some of the best QOL mods for the engines.
Very much looking forward to this full campaign. I get impatient with Combat Mission games, so I make a lot of boneheaded mistakes that cause me to save scum. Some of these missions I had to restart or load a save an embarrassing number of times. Very challenging.
Woo! A campaign I've actually already played... mostly. Still balking at the setup on one of the later missions and the... trouble... that *someone* sauntered into. I should finish that - I actually started it after watching the Marines guide and really taking to the idea of having a NATO force that didn't have many javelins or overwhelming armour but did have good resupply rates through the campaign (the SF2 NATO campaigns all felt far too punishing on losses to be enjoyable). I am extremely excited to see more of these; I hope you pick the more infantry-focused path, as that one feels a natural fit for the Marines (the tanks always feel odd with the Marines, not a natural fit at all -- honestly, I wish the Marines could ride on the tanks, that would actually work pretty well in the tactical context!) As a random aside, it was in this mission where one of the spotters called in artillery on one of the buildings from over 100m away, and the shell landed right next to him, on the same side of the dirt bank he was on, and somehow no-one in his squad was killed. That was a lesson on just how far away 'danger close' is!
I don't think I've actually tackled a campaign with branching paths before. I played TF Thunder and Highland Thunder back in the day, but I don't think I got far enough with either to get to the branches. Should be interesting!
Nice :) Thank you Hapless.. When you get around to it, I would love to see you tackle some of the new Final Blitzkrieg campaigns.. Volksturm and fanatics :)
Do the Units replenish casualties in this campaign? I know they didn't in Task Force Thunder, but I can't find anything online to confirm or deny they do in this one.
I've just played through Mission 4 and some of my rifle squads started off understrength, so looks like it. That doesn't mean they won't recieve reinforcements at some point in the campaign, depending on how kind the campaign designer was at the time.
I played this campaign a while back before I joined only to be sent to 2nd Battalion 6th Marines the actual battalion in the campaign so hopefully I’ll be able to spot ‘myself’ during this playthrough
Hello! whats your graphics settings for all Combat Mission titles do you use reshade ? and also whats your nvidia control panel settings thanks! great video as always 😁
Great video. Really interesting mission. Love the use of arma for setup shots. Don't know if it would be worth it but imho it'd be pretty cool to do it even more, maybe even using it to display the layout of squads etc and the equipment they have, or even getting mods with f18/Destroyer/carrier etc assets (which do exist) probably more effort than it's worth but I think the mega nerds such as myself would really like it lol.
Honestly, this doesn't seem like the kind of mission where foot-mobile scouting units can excel. I feel like this would have been much easier if you had a full airmobile infantry platoon. Cool mission though. By the way, respect for that guy who carried that DSHK on his back. :)
@@CrowDawg11 why do Americans even bother with having the Marine Corps are as an entirely separate branch? There's no need for wet soldiers, just make soldiers that can get wet
@@Redstarka22 Because the marines are based around landers and helicopters. Therefore, they require a slightly different set of kit and organisation than the army. Speaking of organisation; because they are subordinate to the navy, they are easier units to coordinate in these sorts of air-land-naval operations. By the way, marines are not unique to the US, quite the contrary. History didn't start in 1780.
So weird seeing such a well designed campaign for such a goofy concept. I guess I respect the devs "no real modern wars" policy but you can reaaaaalllyy tell they wanted to do Iraq with this game. They just really don't understand where Syria (or Turkey for that matter) was politically or militarily at the time, and made it functionally another Iraq. Furthermore, while again, these campaigns are really well designed, I think if they truly did want Syria for the setting, a "civil war a decade early" type situation would have been preferable to me, with greenfor, opfor and blufor Syrian units of varying composition, as a notable portion of even the Syrian government was very pro western and the divisions in the military and government over the invasion of Iraq and increasing dominance of Israel and the US in the region ended up being a major starting point for what would explode during the civil war.
My man went through the trouble of setting up dudes with animations in eden just for the intro. Props for the efford.
I remember in the old videos Hapless had Arma gameplay footage incorporated into his CMBS videos to illustrate infantry movements.
Yeah, I think half of why I love his videos are the diagrams of troop positions, movements, phase lines, etc.
It's going to get better ;) I'm quietly relearning all the ARMA stuff in the background
@@usuallyhapless9481 Sounds rad.
a blast from the past
i think we all should apricate care put into the briefing portion, i was so surprised to see arma 3 assets

I like the period appropiate use of comic sans for the briefing
Always nice to see people pick up on the little details!
This is eassily the best, most interesting campaign in SF2 IMO. Good change of pace from the usual mechanized steamrolling you get from the other campaigns.
I like the multiple route options, gives it more replay value.
Guarding the flank is probably my fav mission in SF2
Well done on the intro. I really felt like I was in a briefing room with both the visual and your planning. It was really immersived.
Especially how he made it on the hangar deck of the LHD the MEU would be on
That's great to hear! All that trawling for reference photos paid off!
Despite it being a "stealth mission", I really found it relaxing.
It's a very good campaign and I'm thankful for playing it.

Always a good day when a new Hapless campaign begins. Also, holy production value.

mission itself and intro reminds me of harvest red
Man, I missed these Arma intros, well done.
That's a really cool mission. That's a lot of ground to cover for such a small element.
God yes I'm looking forward to the rest of the campaign. Oorah. And nice continuing use of Arma for B-roll footage!
Hapless another great AAR, loved the animations in the beginning. First Class as always!
Booting up CMSF 2, and using the intro as my briefing for the first mission. Good work Hapless!

Some kind of mods guide has been on my list for ages! I should really get round to it.
Any thoughts on potentially infiltrating up the river to the Bridge after clearing the beach and then fanning out?
Let’s go baby, new campaign series!
These are so enjoyable to watch

great job, i love how this genre attracts special people

I get that with missions that are a little too big or too long for my comfort zone. Usually best to save and take a break.
Hey Hapless, are your animations from the briefing done in Inkscape or another software? I’d love to use it
Yes!!!!! I've been craving for another campaign been watching a long time please keep it up🙏🙏
Those two guys in the back middle left were chatting instead of paying attention to the briefing! We know who to blame if it all goes wrong! :)

IIRC it's the Canadian TUA, but I don't remember either of them being great at spotting.
Fantastic video
Thanks very much man!
I liked this campaign a lot, this mission was just the warmup, next mission is going to be 40mm spamfest, very fun
You forgot the most important aspect of your force - what color crayons were they issued?
I did consider doing all the briefing graphics with crayon as a joke, but it was just too difficult to read.
Was the plan to kill the enemy with laughter by doing to briefing in Comic Sans?
I was not nearly as lucky going through this mission
