I loved your "we're going to cut our knitting" giggle! I recently cut a crocheted sweater for an after-thought neck line and everyone was screaming - DONT DO THAT IT WILL BE A NIGHTMARE!!?!?! But it was fine, and I felt dangerous as I cut my project.
Stephen, you are absolutely the Bob Ross of knitting!!! 🎨🖌🖼🌲🧶 Do I have plans to make an afterthought pocket? Nope. But did I watch this video anyway to listen to your delightful mix of calmness and excitement? Yes! Every time you say 'it's just knitting' I hear 'happy little trees'. ❤
coucou, extraordinaire invention.
Omg! I am knitting the “harvest cardigan “ and was looking for a way to add pockets. And your video appears. Just magical! Thank you so much for sharing! I will use this technique! Great instructions!!!
Hey stephen. Thank you very much, for that tutorial. Its look so easy,as you go. No fear anymore, to get pockets in my knitting. You are a great teacher. Thanks so much! Greetings from germany Susann
This is easily the most nerve wrecking and at the same time the most satisfying video I’ve watched this week. I came here because I was looking for a totally different technique but now I want to knit a cardigan with afterthought pockets. 😜
Thank you for mentioning that you can correct a stitch mount as you go. This lefty learned to crochet long before learning to knit. All my purls are mounted "backwards" for the next row, but I just knit them in the way that they "untwist"!
Stephen, I liked the video before I actually saw the ‘how to’ side of things. Why? Because I love your voice - plain and simple but I did love this video as well after I started watching it😊 Thank you for sharing this technique…looking forward to watching more in the not too distant future…bye🙋🏻♀️
Great clear and up close tutorial! I was curious if I could add after thought pockets on a cardigan I’m finishing and looky I can! Thanks for sharing this.
Last year I completed a top down steeked cardigan and looked endlessly for pockets! I so regret not having pockets & now can add some after thought pockets! Yay thank you Stephen 🥰
I'm thinking the bind off as I make the sweater and cast on similar to (i think the turkish 2 needle cast on) one for toe up socks and leave one side with stitch saver for later. This was amazing! Thank you! I was just wondering if there was a way to do this!
I'm gonna sneak a couple pockets into a big black H&M sweater I wear all the time BECAUSE WHY NOT
Gosh Stephen, that’s the scariest thing I’ve seen in a while. I almost feel like I could do it though. You’re a great teacher.

This is really great for making a pocket. If you do afterthought heels, this will be a piece of cake for making afterthought pockets.❤️
You could probably do similar to a forethought heel too, and plan ahead for where you put it.
What a great technique! You really are such a wonderful, detailed instructor. Thank you so much for all you do for us!!🥰

I really like the icord bind-off edge. Thanks for this complete tuto !

An awesome video, Stephen. Thank you.
Thank you for teaching me a new skill for my knitting
Great video!! Thanks!
Thank you! 👍😊
This is wonderful, Stephen! Thanks for making it so less scary! Same concept can be used for afterthought heels.
Thank you Stephen. This is so helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for that creative idea! I can’t wait to try that.
This looks great, never seen it before
Thank you for such detailed easy instructions!❤❤
Thank you

neat tip thanks for sharing
Swatch patches! Use one to experiment with!
Fantástico
Super sposób na kieszenie 😊

I would knit up a sample square and practice on that before trying this on a full knitted project!
Going in on my painting honeycombs jacket. First have to drink an extra coffee for courage😂

That's wonderful! Good luck with it.

Surprisingly wonderful….😳😳😳
Could it be done with a pattern knitting, too….????

Thank you!
I was just wondering if there was a way to do this!
If only I was younger and courageous.
This is great. I wonder if there is a way to do an afterthought pocket that means you hands can enter from the side rather than the top of the pocket?

Is this a horizontal version of steeking? But everything is better with pockets.
could that help to knit at sametime the pocket edges to different yarn and later take the different yarn off carefully and pick the loups to needles
Can i use the same technique for an afterthought cuff in a poncho?
👍🔥🙏❤️
I’ve done after thought heels on socks and it’s the same concept but why not pick up the stitches before cutting? This is madness 😅😅😅
😢hello 🙏🙏
Why don't save stitches while knitting? And then finish the pocket. You mustn' t cut !
