Destiny Rise of Iron: IF MATERIA~ vs. Nemesis Star - Machine Gun Damage Comparison

- The IF MATERIA~ raid machine gun has been making the rounds recently. Is it as good as we think it might be? Or is it, much like other Diluvians, just total infusion fodder or an instant dismantle? Also, at 11: Super Good Advice vs. Nemesis Star - does anyone even care when Sleeper Simulant is a thing? That and... well, all of those things are in this video. Nothing more after that. Well, I mean, I'll make more videos, but that's all you're getting in this one.
Since these inevitably get posted to reddit, here's some data:
88 shots in the chamber means, if perfect and if the gun works exactly as described, you can get a potential 260 shots. This is unlikely to happen pretty much ever though.
A "perfect" 260 shot set from a 390 Materia with Weapons of Light would result is about the same damage as an Outbreak Prime set of damage. The problem is that you will not be perfect. Therefore, Outbreak Prime wins.
With Illuminated Weapons of Light vs. Vosik Normal:
Perfect Simulation 390 Materia Set: 330k damage, might as well be impossible
In-game 390 Materia Test: ~245k damage
In-game 390 Outbreak Prime Test: Average 330k damage
Vs. Aksis, Materia doesn't do anything special and is actually not very good at all. Sad.
Super Good Advice: It's ok, but nothing great. To really make it even worth using, you need double ammo bonuses.
Nemesis Star: Don't bother burst firing it except for PvP or to kill off elemental shields. Even with the elemental shields thing, it's not really necessary. Burst firing is basically pointless in PvE as any benefit it might bring is negated by it doing less damage. Just shoot the gun.
Double ammo bonus SGA is better than Nemesis Star on Vosik, but only because SGA can shoot more shots. If you have no ammo bonuses, Nemesis Star is better, hell I think the only way SGA would be better is if you ran double bonus. I don't think single would do it. It would be close. But neither beat Outbreak Prime or Sleeper or anything, so who cares, you're not gonna use that stuff in the raid anyway.
Aight that's all you're getting, watch the video.

After we beat the raid a couple days ago, a very annoying guy in my lfg group was preaching how this heavy machine gun will out dps Dark drinker on Aksis. I told him that he was crazy. Thanks for the evidence, Datto. Case closed.
Jacob0128 you seriously needed evidence that this gun (all machine guns) suck? LMFAO thats sad
Quotez We meet again , Mr unnecessary negativity.
A Lost eagle Good one guardian.
Quotez Well, until I actually have evidence, my opinion is as useless as the random's opinion. I said that I told him he was crazy, but this video gives definitive proof of it. Like "A Lost eagle" said, you are being unnecessarily negative. So, bye.
Jacob0128 it's not an opinion tho if you're using the gun, you can tell if it's good or not lol
I dont think Datto (and his group) gets enough credit for these videos, they must take for ever. Props to him
We have one Void exotic heavy, and one arc. The rest are solar. Srsly Bungie. Plz. Make Void.
TheCrafterPrince there is 2 void and 2 arc
TheCrafterPrince the wotm raid lmg can roll with any burn
1005rhys he said exotic
Lord Saladin forgot about swords, mb.
***** forgot about swords :p
i don't get why bungie makes cool weapon designs, only for them to be under-wealming
You should see the exotic warlock helmet they made in my image. It is only good for one thing, but no one cares enough to fucking use the help it gives them. (I'm talking about the stag. It is good for elimination and trails, but no one fucking has the brains to stop fighting, and pick me up while the healing rift is up.)
@@Blondie-Actual bruh the stag was in d1 too lol
Make Machine Guns Great Again
erratic_calm ikr
erratic_calm they are so bad :(
even rockets are falling short
sebaspartan06 pun intended?
maybe... idk
It seems that Outbreak Prime is becoming more awesome with every passing day. Funny that some early reports on it were underwhelming.
God damn it :(
I really like this gun.. I'll just wait until I drop it again and infuse this into my Sleeper
lol savage as fuck
I rather have fun with it until I get something to infuse into my Sleeper. I always make my raid groups chuckle when they hear me hosing the bosses in the face for the duration of the DPS phases. You get so many attempts at DPSing the bosses in WoTM that you don't all need to be maxing out your DPS potential.
Spoil-t
datto u r the man, loved the rant about the lack of a void machine gun prefect how u cut that music out lol
Datto when's the next Cooking with datto?
Thank you Datto and your raid team, for always taking the time and creating great content. really enjoy the weapon comparison series. keep up the awesome work
I lost my decision on destiny raid shotguns. Oh never mind, I Found Verdict

telling jokes like that will Make you some friends, it's a real ice breaker. :)

I found it funny you used nemmises star cause the burst fire actually makes you lose damage for those bullets.
I feel thunder Lord could have been a better choice
Machine guns need a major buff
I think that the raid MG should be a low fire rate high impact instead of high fire rate low impact
with the amount of bullets it fire's at a fast rate along with tripple double tap, it dishes out almost as much damage as outbreak so its still good and it wouldn't matter because with low rate of fire, you usually end up with slow reload, less bullets but more damage so they would end u with possibly the same damage at the end
Kitsune Inferno yeah it would have been a ton better :/
Nnno.
We had that with Quillim's Terminus, why would we need another high impact/low rof MG?
The Vanguard's Bonekruscher is the same archetype as the old IB HMG, Jolder's Hammer. Low ammo reserve at 25 is fairly low but having something like spray and play really helps.
Devon Humpert Have you tried using an Unending Deluge III from crucible that has Take a Knee on it?
Most people find it super bad and situational, but if you crouch while using the mg, you literally have a 43 (pvp) damage per shot Doctrine of Passing, it's insane.
a little bit of brutal honesty... I really didn't like to watch your videos, despite having subbed to you. but these damage comparisons... holy hell. You've successfully restored my liking of you, Datto. You're out here doing the dirty work so that no one else has to. Not to mention, the math is all shown on screen, and you have different outcomes listed. These videos have helped me maximise my damage in the raid and take top DPS in my raid teams. I've even referred my team members to your videos, and shown them how right you were. some still refuse to maximise, and that's okay, but the proof is there.
Kinda surprised you didnt include Thunderlord in this, also not surprised about SGA and Nemisis star, with CC and built in Grenadier on the guns, they were clearly meant for ad clearing. Good info though!
Datto awesome video man. I love the detail and technicality of your videos. keep up the good work.
I really like this Damage comparison series your doing Datto. Very insightful. ^^
@datto So basically Outbreak is the king of damage for this specific boss fight.
Thank you for answering all my question. You need an award or something for this much info. Love Destiny one. Dude you’re awesome.
Datto, could you do a test on the warlock subclass sunsinger if solar or fusion grenades are better with viking funeral? ( optional testing including sunbreakers)
warlord2034 He did a video a while back about this. I think it was the challenge video where he kills the warpriest with fusion grenades
Outstanding video Datto. You've been knocking it out of the park with these comparisons lately. Thanks!!!
Can you update the exotic tier list for ROI?
To be fair, none of them (Aside from the Outbreak Prime, and Trespasser) would reach Tier 1, and even then, they're all very situational. Outbreak Prime is amazing in PvE and Trespasser is great in PvP, but aside from that, all of them just fall off and are less useful than the legendaries you collected in King's Fall, back when they removed every year 1 weapon, which I'm still salty about today.
I miss my god roll full auto Dry Rot 32.
-Skybreaker I still have one of those
InCrIpTiOn I don't have mine anymore.
Had Full Auto and Shot Package. Kill me.
what nemesis star in PvP
about
ideas for more damage comparison videos :
if machina vs vendor roll event horizon vs black spindle
outbreak prime vs steel medulla vs no time to explain
yajat uppal he's already done the snipers, sleeper won
I meant spindle
alec martin heard of the new hardmode sniper ?? if machina ?
and the spindle didnt necessarily win . it won if u go by stats . but it takes up my exotic slot which i'd rather use for something like ghorn , outbreak prime or exotic sword . the vendor event horizon could do almost as much as spindle . and im sure if machina gets pretty close to spindle aswell
yajat uppal *Ex Machina
I love all these damage calculation and info data gathering videos. Great job Datto
Great video. Already saw someone post this but I agree with it; Outbreak Prime vs Steel Medula vs No Time To Explain.
Where is thunderlord? I sound like a child but I seriously wanted to see it in this video
@Datto - It may be worth clarifying that, while Triple Double pulls ammo from your reserves into the magazine, Triple Tap grants FREE ammo to your magazine without pulling from reserves. You can see the +1 heavy ammo message pop up each time Triple Tap procs, just like Hung Jury. This is why you pulled less from your reserves than expected when unloading the full 88 (260) round magazine on the Devil Walker.
Finally a triple tap casket mag video is being made, because that's what I rock with in the raid
Thank you for stating the fact that we did not need another heavy solar weapon. You earn my subscription with this one.
thanks for the hard work you do for the community man
The golgoroth killer
He should've used Materia on Golgorath.
Platinum it melts his health nowadays and its incredible
Seriously, we need a PvE machine gun damage buff
Nice vid I love these vids keep it up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
THANK YOU FOR ADDRESSING THE MANY SOLAR HEAVYS
Thanks for all your hard work dude. Makes for a good day. Even if I don't use either of those guns cos Sleeper Simulant is primary 😁
Thank you for ALL of these!
Datto have you thought of trying to test No Time To Explain in the raid since it theoretically doesn't need to reload?
Luke Deering how?
Skorri it's exotic perk is upon precision hits ammo is returned directly to magazine
Awesome vid as always!
Are you going to do a sunsinger in the raid video?
I legitimately don't understand. Somehow, I did a full million more damage on aksis than the next highest person who used Dark Drinker, with the IF MATERIA~ on the braced frame setting. Have the mission summary screenshot to prove it. I don't know how I could have done that if the gun wasn't pumping out higher dps.
If you threw the charges then they add to your damage score on the mission summary.
Kevin George We had guys throwing bombs and hitting aksis with dark drinker, and guys using scorch cannons and hitting aksis with those and dark drinker, and I was throwing charges and using the MG for boss damage, plus raid sniper and outbreak when ammo ran down. They were around 2.25-2.5 million damage, I was at 3.5 million. If it wasn't the gun, I'm clueless.
I noticed when using IF MATERIA it didn't do as much damage as a heavy should and this just proves it.
Yes, been waiting for this. tanku so much
can't wait for the next video, as I have both the raid sniped, and a Casket mag, triple tap, spray and play LDR and im wondering which one is better for the raid.
Corben Dirks i think is going to be the ldr xD idk maybe im wrong
Im betting that LDR wins it. Triple Tap Casket Mag Spray and Play is amazing
gotta remember tho raid sniper does extra damage to fallen tho awhile ldr doesn't but it will be good to see who will win
Corben Dirks Probably for Aksis your Ldr would be better because for some reason Whirlwind's Curse doesn't affect him.
Fuck u and ur ldr
12:20 I don't know why but that reminded me of one of the first nightfalls in year one, the first time the archon priest was the nightfall and feeling like a god being able to constantly stagger him with the suros regime. Ahhh the memories.
Thanks for this. I'm going to stop dumping infuse fodder into the raid hmg. TLDW @12:34.
The raid sniper vs the Devil's Dawn. Both have the increased damage against fallen, and both are the super high impact (rez-snipe and sunbreaker killer) super low fire rate snipers that deal a lot of damage in one shot compared to any other sniper in the game. (per shot not dps)
I agree with your point on the nemesis star. if you really look at it, solar and arc are just more common in general.
Out of all eight primary weapons from VoG there were only two void primary weapons compared to four arc and two solar.
Primary exotics have one solar, the Mythoclast, then two arc, the Nechrocasm and Zhalo Supercell.
Exotic secondaries have one void weapon. ONE. Telesto.
Exotic heavy weapons have the Truth and the Dark Drinker.
on top of all of that, most legendary eapons I ever get from faction packages and end-game rewards are always solar or arc. Never, EVER void. I've gotten maybe four or five void weapons out of the 30-40+ I've gotten since Rise of Iron.
Thorough as always. Thanks!
Currently I believe there is an issue with Triple Tap and Double Triple. I noticed on Dogma if you fire to fast it sometimes wont proc, or least seems not to. If this is occuring on Dogma, which is low ROF then it would be a very big issue on Materia because of its high ROF.
Best way to fix it would be to simply change the perks. IF would be MUCH better with Spray and Play and a perk that upped Stability and handling when Spray and Play was procced.
I think I'll do the unexpected and try out Super Good Advice instead. I loved it during the past three raids, and I think it could be useful again.
Well, it's pretty good for a Non exotic.
A "Legendary SGA", if you would.
Still, like you said there's a few instances where it's actually really good, like against the Restorative Mind.
I melted him this week with my void Materia.
I was having some success with it during the Undying mind as well (I stand on top of the portal when it spawns, it tries to stomp you while your up there, use grenades too clear ads out at the bottom.)
Excellent as always.
I feel like you should include Thunderlord and No Time To Explain in this series of videos - they're the last of the exotics to have perks which can significantly affect their DPS output compared to other weapons.
After you test the crap out of everything it would be awesome to have a summary video showing the best dps guns for vosik and aksis.
Datto I think your tests are very well rounded but yet again damage can vary depending on light what I mean is damage will vary if you're doing the normal raid and you're 400light but really enjoyed the video I still choose nemesis star over all of them
When Nemesis Star was first revealed, I posted a few times on Bungie's forum about how dumb it was for them to make it Solar. I specifically pointed out how not only was there already a Solar Exotic machine gun in SGA, but how the most popular heavy at the time (according to numbers they themselves released), Qullim's Terminus, was also Solar. I also pointed out the glaring lack of Void.
Apparently since I'm just some random cop in Virginia and not important enough to the world, none of that made it back to the dev team. Maybe with a "RUclips famous" voice saying it, it could happen. Fight the good fight, Datto!
What I want to see is an end all, be all comparison for this raid. What I mean is Outbreak Prime vs. Sleeper vs. Razelighter/Dark Drinker vs. Gjally.
Can we just appreciate the effort datto goes to making these videos
Hey Datto, have you noticed that the Outbreak Prime has a secret perk. It doesn't have it listed, however if you hit 3 bursts on a target the 4th does increased damage. I forget the name of said actual perk, but I know it's on the steel medulla...
While I love these videos, I would like to see a summary with a more complete loadout approach. Is it best to go Outbreak + sniper + Materia, vs Chaos Dogma + void shotgun + Ghorn/sleeper, etc. Often I've found too many people completely focused on boss DPS and not being able to take out a Captain on Vosik or Aksis reliably, which is more likely to cause a wipe (due to the Captain killing them) vs slightly lower DPS on the boss.
smartest guy i have ever seen
yes! can't wait for the next video, I do have a casket mag triple tap eirene, so it won't be a theory for me and I am really curious about the raid sniper being better dps in general or not.
And without realizing it, Datto just made himself an Episode 5 meme.
"Damage dealing weapon...
...
...
... list."
-Han Datto.
Blow the leg of the spider, jump on his face, place bubble look down, brrrrrrrt...
Lol the ad for this was destiny megablocks, I had no idea those were a thing
No thunderlord test? or any other machine gun archetypes? I know they won't be better but knowing how much damage is dealt would be good to know.
I adore the nemesis star!! Both in pve and pvp, hopefully bungie make it void, be cool the Nemesis star be the first gun to get a element change as its a beautiful gun
This only confirmed my hatred of the bullet hose machine gun archetype
super good advice got me thru the War priest, Everytime. that was pre ammo nerf
On your example for the Devil Walker, while shooting IF Materia~, you were shooting an already de-armored leg.(already used to expose crit spot neck area) Perhaps the game did not like trying to proc the crit credit for the machinegun,(for Triple Tap) because it already has to SUPER-nerf your damage to it?
Machine guns seem to be better at killing adds than boss damage... but swords are just better at everything in the raid. The only thing you can't use the sword on is vosik, aksis phase 2 when he teleports mid for the final damage race, etc. Before I jumped on the dark drinker bandwagon I was using the vendor tormod's from year 2 which held 7 rockets (8 with double ammo but that's only one more rocket) and it suited me very well for killing captains. My go-to loadout for the raid right now is raid pulse, raid sniper and dark drinker.
Can this not be tested on golgoroth?
lol, my first words after noticing the perks on this lmg when RoI launched were "I just want to spam the shit out of this thing in golgoroth's belly"
Please do a video on Khovstov versus... well, itself, actually. What setups are decent? What's best? What works well? Is it good?
For someone like me, math is an important way of me dealing damage. Thank you for doing the work for me
Ex Machina~ vs 1000 yard stare vs Black Spindle
Datto is totally right on exotic heavy's. Any time there is solar burn there are so many good possible exotic solar heavy weapons to use. Bungie needs to spread the love, make some good void, (since any arc burn automatically means exotic primary usage)
Great video
You should've tested it on golgoroth to test its potential damage, way larger crit spot and doesn't move
Daniel Ives the test wouldn't matter for golgoroth.
Noone needs to do damage to him. we need something for the new raid. if it's good in Kings fall but bad in WotM then its kinda pointless.
He's talking about the maximum potential damage, regardless of the target.
No. He stated a while back when he started testing things that he wanted these tests to be relevant to the hardest content we play today. Which is WOTM
I realized that when I got it: "It's solar. Like all the other heavy weapons I already have, it does solar damage. Well, shit."
I plan on running Chaos Dogma, Black Spindle, and the If Materia~. Dunno if it's something worthwhile but I'll try it.
These statistics are great to see, but you need to factor in that you are using this against fallen bosses specifically which will work with the fallen damage buff the raid weapons give. The comparison on WOTM bosses vs Outbreak Prime is good but if you were to go up against a non-fallen enemy it's likely that Materia would do more damage. Any stats you can bring up for that Datto?
I really like Datto's videos, but this rise of iron videos are long as hell, too many numbers and a lot of comparisons that make the video even longer, feels overwhelming.
I prefer older videos, shorter and straight to the point.
I know Datto prides on the math and numbers, but damn dude, I see myself skipping ahead just to get to the point.
Keep up the good work Datto, I love the content on your channel.
This weapon is pretty much made for killing the Perfected Walker in the Hard Mode Siege Engine. Each of its legs are huge crit spots, and the core in the middle as well, so you're pretty much guaranteed to crit (almost) every shot. Could probably use it to one-man the Walker while everyone else focuses on moving parts.
It's not effective against Vosik/ Aksis primarily because of range and the inability to make every shot a crit; snipers/ Outbreak Prime/ Sleeper Simulant are the optimal weapons to be using against those bosses.
For the Raid bosses. I like to use my Defiance of Yasmin, fire 4 shots, switch to Ghorn, fire 1 shot, switch to Chaos Dogma, get head shots. If there is still time when the Chaos Dogma runs out of shots, switch back to Yasmin and fire another 4.
This is great when taking down the Perfected Walker on the Siege Engine in WotM Heroic/Hard mode. Slap it on real quick snipe the front left leg, then go to town with the MG.
I think Unending Deluge III is great weapon, it has the same stat base as the Corrective Measure, but its base mag size is 70, couple that with some god roll perks and i think it would be a great weapon for bosses
Okay here's your problem. 1st of all when shooting a walker stand in front of it and shoot along the armoured legs every time incase rounds over penetrate. 2nd your accuracy with this gun depends on your range as the recoil will be easier to control.
This means stand and fire as close as possible numbnuts
What if you were to use Gunslinger's Trance for most if the Vosik phase? That increases stability for a weapon, and x3 increases stability a lot. That might make the gun a lot better, even without Braced Frame.
Good god, this IS like a Math lecture
nice analysis.
Something to consider:
On the vosik encounter u can stand much closer when teammates are staggering him, i barely miss any shots.
Gosh I miss the days where Destiny could allow for videos like this to be made...
Honestly, I just came, back here to remember Nemesis Star. I loved this gun.
Go try this on Golgoroth. The DPS on him should be really high considering you are in his chest, and every shot should be a crit, meaning that for a legendary, it would be pretty effective.
The problem with If Materia is that it is a bullet hose rather than a heavy hitter like Terminus.
Imagine seeing divinity in d1 along with this mg
Wouldn't you think the best way to simulate this is to do it on golgroth? He has a huge crit and doesn't stagger
I feel like if the IF Materia was in the "corrective mesure" arc type it would be better for pumping out consistent damage. It would hit slightly harder and would be more accurate.
I see Materia as a weapon built for targets that have huge precision hitboxes (Devil walker, Giant servitors, etc:) other than that, I rarely ever use it
