My dolls don’t loose that much hair when I restore them. After shampooing and conditioning, get a spray bottle with a few drops of fabric softener and water. Get a wide-tooth comb. Separate the hair in very small parts. Hold the hair with one hand on the roots and start detangling from the ends slowly and then move up, patiently, piece by piece. Spray the “potion” while detangling. After detangling with the wide comb, use a fine tooth comb. You will detangle dolls without losing that much hair!
My Jewel Mermaid Barbie is finished and your tip about using a Spray bottle with fabric softener was a tremendous help and made the process of dangling her her faster and you are correct she didn't lose as much hair after I started using the fabric softener. It was tedious and I almost thought have I gotten myself into but the end result is she looks almost brand new again. Proface thank you so much for that cause with 2 slip disks it can be painful to restore barbies.

Teresa has a special place in my heart. She was the first doll I owned that looked like me. I loved her so much that I kept her from childhood until my 20s when she was forever lost by accident. She was thrown away without my concent :( I still mourn her loss. She was lost along with my one and only Ken doll. He was a collector edition groom Ken that my dad gave me one Christmas day. The Ken groom was accompanied by the red barbie Volkswagen beetle ❤️ which is to this day my dream car.
✨💖🌈🎀✨ thank you for sharing all these dolls from the 90s! We SO appreciate being able to share happy memories with friends and family (because we no longer have our childhood dolls.)
Nothing like a vintage 90's barbie coming back to life! Would've loved to have seen her with her original dress back on, jazzed up with some heels, jacket and purse! I love all your vintage dolls! I hope one day you get down on the floor and go through all your vintage dolls. 2022 is the year for dreams to come true haha 😄. You did a great job on her hair, I've saved so many of my vintage dolls thanks to your videos!!!
As a Teresa fan, I'm so glad you could save that poor girl! If you keep doing this kind of restorations, you'll build lots of muscle in your arms! Hahahaa. I hope it didn't hurt after you finished! Congratulations on your great work
whahaha! 😂💖 Well it was so worth it so even if I had sore muscles after I would still do it 😅, Thanks dear! Gotta see whenever I see long haired dolls in need I just can’t help but get excited to restore them 😍💕✨
Arjen, you are a miracle worker! Teresa looks fabulous! Thank you for sharing the process. Now I know what to do if I ever run into a “retro” Barbie at a thrift store or online market. 🤗
The Teresa doll turned out absolutely stunning! Are you planning to give more dolls a makeover? There should actually be a store with restored barbie dolls. Maybe an idea for in the future?
I had a Cool Clips Teresa when I was 8! OMG this brought back to many memories. 🥺 💕 I loved this doll so much as a child because I also had very long hair.
Restoring doll’s hair especially achieving the final result is very satisfying.:-) I also love that you swish the restored hair. I always do that to my longhaired dolls!!! I feel that they are in a shampoo commercial! Hihihihihihi great job!!! 🤗💗🤗💗🤗
A Thousand Splendid Dolls here on YT has a great vid going over all the different types of doll hair. In that video, she explains that kanekelon hair (which we see often on these 90s Barbies) tends to get matted really easily and fall out in chunks after a while. Judging by the way the hair looked beforehand I’d say that’s probably the type and reason why she lost so much hair in the brushing phase 😅 but she turned out so gorgeous! You did a fantastic job restoring her!!
I have a new appreciation for your arm strength! My arms are SO tired every time I do this on a long hair doll! She looks FANTASTIC now though and sooo I believe it was worth it! PS I want the new outfit you gave her (for me😅) 🎀💕💕💕
whaha It would look so pretty on you indeed! ☺️💖🎀 And although it’s a hard knock job.. everytime I see such a doll in need I get very VERY excited to get my hands into it 🥲
1999… that doll is almost 24 years old! I was born in 1995 which makes me 4 years older than her. Still, I think she turned out really nice (even though she did lose a lot of hair)! And that outfit is adorable on her!
Well done, she turned out amazing, if I could give one tip, before washing Combe hair out dry not wet, you want loose as much hair. That’s what I have done in the past and worked well. 🥰🌈❤️🍾🥂
Love her, what an amazing transformation. I am learning so much from you about how to re-style Barbies hair. Maybe one day you would consider making a video of a bunch of girls who need work at the Salon and we could have a multiple Hair Style Video to follow for reference in one place. Just a thought, Much love 🧡💛❤💜💚💙
She looks great, but you’re missing a step that makes the boil wash WORK and LOOK even better! You have too and I can’t stress enough, HAVE TOO brush the hair out with a fine tooth comb directly out of the boil wash before dipping the hair back in any other water. When you just dip the hair back in other water without brushing, it pretty much sets the hair in that place bc it’s plastic, if that makes sense. So, when you comb the hair in a straight style directly out of the boil wash, then run it under cold, it’ll set the plastic hair in that pin straight look that you brushed it into. So comb while the boiling water is still in the hair.
Oh those gorgeous nineties dolls!! This girl has been ressurrected in Barbination heaven!! Gosh that hair is everything now!!! And her top is from the Color magic advent calendar right?? Loved it!!! 💜💜💜💜
I found your channel during the holidays and literally watched ALL of them. Now I have to eagerly wait for your new releases, I want mooooooore. Cant wait for your Q&A video :)
That's about how it went when I fixed up my Megra doll...lol 😆 good thing they used enough hair back than that you can pull half out and they still look amazing...
The thing I learnt about that type of hair is lightly brush it out in sections starting from the bottom before washing it works wonders and then using a hair straightener on the lowest heat when it is dried
I got myself MyScene dolls this year (was a long time dream of mine). I got some cheap used dolls in decent condition. So I had to work with their hair a bit. And yeah, when doll starts loosing too much hair is sooooo stressful!! 😬 I was super careful while washing and brushing. My guess it’s just the technique flaw of the old doll factories. Maybe rooting was imperfect and that’s why dolls shed a lot. Modern day dolls shed too sometimes, but not to that extent. In my experience at least.
Oh wow friend cool find. Think I can get the barbie from this line. But you really lost alot of hair. My method with hula hair barbie, Teresa and foam and color barbie along with few others from the hair play 90s girls are that on that dry hair I literally put stay soft / fabric softener on and leave it to dry. The kanekalon fiber tends to be very dry and what I do is separate the hair in smaller sections and brush it out with a wide tooth side. Then I add more softener and brush through and then rinse. I dunno if you'll try it but it's my way of not losing so much hair by just going at it because even if the hair looks that way this method will save so much of it ✨🙌🏽
To think that I remember how my back hurt when I first got Jewel Hair Mermaid Barbie with that kind of poofy hair... yikes. It took me a whole 12 hours just to get those tangles out. I mean I took breaks and I let the conditioner stay longer on the hair so that's why. 😅
Oh my word!!! I just did a jewel mermaid, and my back was killing me! Took just over 2 hours and it was a rats nest! Hope to never have to do another one 😅.
Currently going through the same process with a Jewel hair mermaid barbie, her hair is so bad it reminds me of cotton. I worked on her for 1 1/2 hours yesterday and had to stop due to back pain. Will hopefully finish her today. She has lost a lot of hair already.
Hi Arjen! I'd suggest you to use a detangler or a brush instead of a comb 😊 I've used a comb for many years and it was just a nightmare. It's harder and the dolls lose a lot of hair.... But then I started using a brush, and it is so much easier, saves me a lot of time and the dolls barely lose any hair. Of course I still use a comb in the end of the process to make sure the hair is all good before letting it dry If you try it, let me know 💖
6:15 - but dolls from 90s and rise of 00s have a very, very good root. And hair restoration doesn't hurt the root and doesn't spoil the impression about doll.
To help prevent unnecessary hair loss, let the conditioner in for an hour or 2 before brushing. This allows time for all those tangles to completely soften up, and leave the conditioner in while you brush. Otherwise she turned out beautifully !

Ok I just got the blonde version for that one and wow. I justes cleaned her. She lost so much hair I started to freak out thinking she was gonna end up bald. Also the more I brushed her hair, the more it seemed to get tangled somehow ? Her hair looks like it’s not the same type as other barbies.

And when you’re combing the hair, start from the bottom, gently. This way you’ll lost way less hair
