We've been lied to about men not liking romantic fiction and getting nothing out of it: turns out if you get one tipsy he giggles and cheers them on and slaps his leg all manly like.
Men can absolutely enjoy romantic fiction. The issue is that a lot of western romantic fiction is primarily directed at women and is often geared towards women’s perspective, desires, and fantasies. However if we cross the pacific over to Japan we see a lot more diversity in the target audience for romance. There’s plenty of romantic manga and light novels that are geared towards guys, girls, and many romances that are geared towards both simultaneously. And it’s really refreshing to see that Brandon Sanderson recently released a romance focused novel that actually appeals to both men and women. I really hope more gender neutral and male centric romance gets published in the western literary world going forward and if anyone knows of any that already exist I’d love to hear them.
@@gabrielespana319 To be fair, there's also a lot of power fantasy harem manga and books in Japan too. I wouldn't call those good examples or wish for more. ^^; The "one male character, one true love but 5+ other girls who still fawn over him" thing is the one reason I can't really LOVE Sword Art Online. As a person who works in a bookstore I can say for a fact that fourth wing was literally sold out and publishing houses were panicking to reprint them and did not expect it to do that well. Like we got 10 copies in our store and for the first few weeks there wasn’t many sales then suddenly BAM we sold out ordered more in BAM sold out again and then our suppliers were out of stock. Nobody saw it coming and the publishers didn’t print nearly enough because again it was looking to be just another neat fantasy that would do ok and they didn’t need to print much like publishers were out of stock for A MONTH AND A HALF which is absolutely insane and for that entire time we would get the same question multiple times a day of “do you guys have the book fourth wing?” Sent every book store and publisher into a panic to try to get their hands on whatever copy was out there/print more as fast as humanely possible.
Sara J Maas started the now popular trend of fantasy aimed at girls/women with Throne of Glass. I read those books when they were coming out and was amazed how unashamedly girly they were, which wasn't common back then in the genre. As a woman who loves fantasy, I will always appreciate her for giving us her books and creating a market for other authors.
She also unfortunately perpetuated the trend of abusive relationships being depicted as just fine. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading her books, but after some reflection there is a lot of problematic themes that are pretty pervasive throughout.
She's everything wrong with literature these days, perpetuates garbage, inhuman stories with god awful prose, god awful characters, god awful themes and world and plot. This trend is what is forcing capitalist publishers to ONLY publish this fucking slop and if you want ANY say in being an author these days, your only avenue is being a Sanderson (an near-equally terrible author) or Maas or any of these YA slop-fest trashauthors. If you want to write, and have a burning desire to be an artist, take all of these books and burn them and go read from actual respected authors like Tolstoy, Proust, Borges, Cervantes etc Supporting Maas in any way is actively harming the literature art form.
I wholeheartedly agree. I first read throne of glass as a 12 year old and it was the first time I read a fantasy book with a female character that embraced her femininity but was still depicted as badass.

Dang, five books in and I’m still trying to decide whether or not Lucien’s brother is a bad guy. You have surmised as much in two chapters as I have in three thousand pages. Very impressive 😂 25:09

I am very entertained and impressed. When you first started predicting after the first chapter you were pretty acurate! I would love to see you do the rest of the series and i would also love for you to read the whole book and do a review on it! Do it!
In a stroke of hilariously good timing, I literally just listened to the audiobook for this on my Labor Day roadtrip! Despite my assumption that everything about the book would be garbage, based on the many videos I had seen making fun of the series, I had a surprisingly good time with it -- definitely not a "good" book, but it kept me entertained without having to think too deeply. Sometimes you just are in the mood to watch a Hallmark movie and eat junk food -- and even if someone offered you a "good" movie with "good" food, it just isn't the vibe -- and this book was that for my reading mood!
I like you trying to guess through the last chapter, it's really funny! I've seen people suggest you invite someone who has read the book, and explains to you what you got wrong, and what you got right. I'd love to see that too!
Thank you Keyla and wine for being characters for this video, they were best complement so Daniel could make the funniest video! 🤣🤣🤣 Honestly, I’ve never been attracted to this books but I could spent my time on them if it’s delivered like this XD

I think I like you doing the first chapter, predicting, then the last chapter and trying to figure out how they got there.
Keep doing these videos! I enjoyed this so much! I've actually read Fourth Wing (through the library because of the sold out problem), and I'm interested to see how you predict that one. Dude, watching you giggle and bubble your way through this video gave me a WONDERFUL boost to my morning. The fact that I've read these makes it so much better. As for which way you should do the guessing, as long as it involves this much enthusiasm and... maybe wine... I'm down either way! Love your face!
The way he says everyones names is how i read their names, I feel so seen lol (Shout out FAYRAY and Amoranthhhha)
The way he was so adamant abt Lulu being a baddie and Eris being good 😂 Also amazing video, and I’m definitely no the only one who’s acc read the book series and laughed both at his absolutely incorrect and at his surprisingly correct (e.x. “We warmed up with Tamlin, now we’re gonna take off with the guy who can fly”) predictions 😂❤
I’d love to see you do this for the rest of the series! At least up to book two A Court of Mist and Fury. This is the best thing I’ve seen this week!
Dang, five books in and I’m still trying to decide whether or not Lucien’s brother is a bad guy. You have surmised as much in two chapters as I have in three thousand pages. Very impressive 😂 25:09
We love *you* Daniel. 😂😂😂 This was amazing and we need more of it. Do the rest of the series!!! I vote read first and last and then guess! Also the part you glossed over at the end was such a crucial part, it killed me. 😂 Definitely need more of this series!
Time for sippy-sippy 😂
Keep reading! I was meh on the first book, then book two was like "oh, those things you didn't like in book one? That was intentional..."
Reading the first and last like you did for fourth wing is great.
A book comedy slash talk show thing, I didn't know I needed that. Also I went ahead and poured myself one in sympathy.
I like you trying to guess through the last chapter, it's really funny! I've seen people suggest you invite someone who has read the book, and explains to you what you got wrong, and what you got right. I'd love to see that too!
I 100% wanted to start the day bright and early and do lots of productive stuff. But omg, this is hilarious! I rather remain here!
This brought me so much joy. Extra fun was had by trying to guess when you’d knock over the wine 😂
Stanley is definitely better than “Tampon.”
Thank you Keyla and wine for being characters for this video, they were best complement so Daniel could make the funniest video! 🤣🤣🤣
Honestly, I’ve never been attracted to this books but I could spent my time on them if it’s delivered like this XD
I love this video idea! I’ve seen people (well, one person) do this with tv shows and I’ve always loved watching those videos. So having it done with books is amazing 😂
I see the Scott Cramer reference and I approve
@@Luke-jo4to I’ve actually never watched Scott Cramer, I was referring to Dylan is in Trouble! But I looked up Scott Cramer and I will for sure check him out now!
Definitely Dylan😂😂
Dylan is the best!! 😂😂 I immediately thought of him when seeing this video.
@@jenniferarmstrong7722 I immediately thought of him too! I love watching Dylan’s videos 😂
Thank you for bringing joy into the world and making it a better place, Daniel. You made me smile today, and that matters. Thank you.
I was like do I want to read this book? everything was a red flag starting with the author. I am glad I watched this video.
This was absolutely wonderful! I definitely want more of these, especially with the drink every time you mess up reading. (Next time I think I’ll drink along with you, lol). I also want you to do the next book in ACOTAR in this same style, I just wanna see your reaction. This was just excellent! I think I like you doing the first chapter, predicting, then the last chapter and trying to figure out how they got there.
As someone who has read almost all the ACOTAR books. This is the best version of book one I’ve ever seen
This is so funn!! Please do more of these!
This is A+ content that I didn’t even know I needed and now I want so much more of it!
i had a bad day and i cannot overstate how lovely this silly video was and I guess i gotta reread ACOTAR after like 5 years now
This is chaos and I am HERE for it
I truly never thought Daniel would review ACOTAR.. and this is the best outcome possible
Keep doing these videos! I enjoyed this so much!
I've actually read Fourth Wing (through the library because of the sold out problem), and I'm interested to see how you predict that one.
I think you should do a prediction based on the back page synopsis and then read chapter 1. Then guess the story and read the final chapter.
you definitely want to guess after the first chapter then guess in between after.
Look, personally, this isn't the kind of genre I prefer to consume but honestly? The girl can write.
That said MORE OF THIS, DANIEL!
I had never heard of Fourth Wing till someone called my Target wanting a special book with black edge paves with dragons on them. I liked the look of the book so much and my store had 2 so I got the other copy and started reading it.
So happy to watch this !!! U were wrong abt a lot of the middle plot btw !! Been waiting for u to read throne of glass and ACOTAR for so long and this video was freaking hilarious both fur me and my sister😂😆 !!
Can't wait to watch u read Fourth wing !! Though it will be a better experience if u read the entire book and make your so matter of fact commentary abt the hot guys and their descriptions (high cheekbones and everything is pretty common in romantasy and woman tend to enjoy it when the luv interest is described as such)
P.S : the smut is so hyped up (the first 3 books of Acotar) but the writing style and the characters are so interesting that it instantly sucks you in
The way you read reminds me of Bastian reading the NeverEnding Story ... love your content btw!
More tipsy videos please. This was delightful.
