    During the Isle of Man TT 2017, RST Superbike race, Honda Racing’s Guy Martin unfortunately crashed at Doran's bend on his first lap. Guy reported that he hit a "box of neutrals" which caused him to berm the kerb and take a tumble.
    Thankfully, Guy Martin walked away from the crash with only a bruised wrist and hopefully he'll be able to continue the rest of his TT 2017 campaign.

    Guy has had a few surprises on his return to the IOM firstly the speed of the competion, they are all dialled into their bikes and software excluding Dunlop who would ride anything with or without aids on the bike. Secondly the bike was far from ready to race and most people knew that, JM crash was down to the autoblipper hence a change of software to Motec, Thirdly Guy has never raced for wages before which always left him the door open to walk away from a bad team or bike, Honda are paying him to ride the thing. Lastly I think Guy will never return to the TT he is getting older and wiser, and hopefully he will get his dads Rocket 3 out of the pub and ride it in the Classic TT where he will boost the attendance and enjoy himself once again.

    I think HRC should pull out the 2017 Honda Fireblade SP2 from the Isle of Man TT before it does more damage to Guy Martin and their reputation! :( The bike was known to have electrical issues & it took out John McGuinness at the North West 200 due to a suspected stuck throttle to which Honda said they can't determine the real reason since ECU was banged about in the crash (seriously??!!) Guy was really lucky not to damage himself like McGuinness who badly broke his tibia, damaged his ribs & lungs. Fireblade once was the most consistent, reliable & dominant machines in road racing, but sadly the new model doesn't seem to have undergone rigorous development & testing... :/

    • @raktim123
      @raktim123 7 лет назад +5

      For Friday's race they are going to use john's bike. Guy's bike has been kept to the side. John's bike has been taken apart and they are putting in a BSB engine with BSB electronics on it. The suspension will be the road racing suspension they used last year on the 2016 bike. So they are going to essentially use a completely different bike from the one they bought for IOM TT.

      F1: Honda engines blow up
      Indycar: Honda engines blow up
      WSBK: bikes get delivered 1 month before the seasons starts
      MotoGP: poor performance
      IOM: McGuiness and Martin both crash. McGuiness probably throttle got stuck and now maybe a false neutral for Martin.

    Great to see he is OK as it could have been much worse. HRC has a-lot of explaining and work to do. He looked shaken up (as you would). I would hate to see him injured or worse on what is looking like a poorly suited motorcycle. A "box of neutrals" at this stage should not be occurring. Serious consideration should be given to not riding it again. Contract or not, his life is worth more. Much respect to Mr. Guy Martin.

    • @cybertrophic
      @cybertrophic 7 лет назад +2

      Gabriel Johannson yes HRC needs to take a serious look at themselves, as despite the WSBK and BSB bikes being crap and this bike jamming the throttle on and flinging Guy off at Tandragee and McPint off in the NW200, they have had the temerity to hint at the issues being rider error in press releases surrounding this latest incident. The bike is obviously not right - Guy is a previous TT lap record holder and a multiple winner of other major road races, whilst McPint is the man around the island, so if they both struggle on it, what rider does HRC expect to cope with it? Pack up, go home and just accept the bad press with good grace Honda - stop trying to save face and admit you dropped a bollock.

    • @bluemtsexpose5984

      Chance Hooper remember Casey stoner got a stuck throttle at 120 mph on the Honda at the 24 hour in Japan.He literally had to lay the bike down.Honda took months to admit it was a fault and not stoner.Looks like they are still having issues.

    • @cybertrophic
      @cybertrophic 7 лет назад +1

      Bluemts Expose definitely. To suggest Guy is bottling it when he was happy to race a bike he knew had a turbo problem at Pikes Peak and get a class win, or to laugh off a 200mph+ crash in a streamlined or break a Wall Of Death record whilst literally blacking out at 80mph+ is not the sign of a coward: that bike is, as he said, a Jonah and HRC are unlikely to fix it in three days, so he'd be wise to leave the Senior TT and come back with it next year, if at all. I strongly doubt he'd ride for Honda again, nor McGuinness for that matter.
      Interestingly, in his first book he talks about the last time he rode for a big Honda team and even back then, when the bike had issues they just denied any problems - he ended up using his own parts and rebuilding it himself, I believe.

    • @cybertrophic
      @cybertrophic 7 лет назад +6

      Given that this bike was in fourth gear at least, it cannot be a case of missing second and hitting neutral, meaning a bike with a quickshifter and auto-blipper missed the clutch timing and caused the selector to skip. Assuming nothing had broken (which according to HRC, it hadn't), it means that despite switching the ecu to a motel after their own unit kept jam,img the throttle open, HRC have failed to replicate functionality available as an optional extra on most showroom superbikes. What the hell happened at Honda? Between this and their awful F1 engine, they are torpedoing their reputation for engineering very quickly.

    • @d1sturb3d119
      @d1sturb3d119 7 лет назад

      HRC isn't even involved in the racing at IOM, WSBK, and BSB. They have consultants. Honda in fact hasn't been supporting those teams since 2003.
