Thank you SO much for this! I've been terrified about re-entering the workplace after staying home with my son, a near-fatal medical scare, and being a co-caregiver to my elderly mother. Thank you!
+Trease Shine As you well know, sometimes when you start a career break for one reason, childcare for example, then suddenly you are in an unanticipated eldercare situation, or you experience a personal health issue. One leads into the other. Spend time focusing on what you want to do when you return. Do you want to return to exactly what you did before, something related, or something entirely different? Do you need any new credentials for your reentry career goal? Are you in a field and a location where a formal reentry internship program exists? Can you suggest one? Lots of questions here. You may find the tools and resources on our iRelaunch.com website and newsletter helpful. I am rooting for you!
Me too, l'm terrified! I'm 43 yo now, and I haven't worked for an employer in my life, l've been staying at home as a full-time Carer for the past 20 years, looking after 2 people - my Schziophrenic mother ( now aged 72 ), whom has Arthritis in her arms and legs and can't walk at times, and my brother as well whom is also ill with back pain ( he is now aged 53 ), l'm on the Carer Pension and Carer Allowance from Centrelink ( Social security) , l don't have driver's licence or a car. Not sure if l will be able to get a job once l'm no longer looking after them, which is why l decided to keep half of my welfare income to live on in the future, for when l finally move out of my mum's house and finally have my own home, so far l've saved up $70,000.
Terrific!! Thank you so much for sharing. I am in the midst of realauncing after 2 breaks and found this educational and gave me a boost of confidence that I surely need

Great insight, Carol. I have attended your iRelaunch conference and there is so much talent in the room! Do you know if there are specific programs in formation targeting the over-55 worker?
Hi Joanne, The reentry internship programs tend to involve people in their forties and fifties. I haven't seen internship programs specifically for the 55+ age group. However, we believe that the proliferation of internship programs for returning professionals will lead to similar programs for other non-traditional career transitioners such as retirees coming out of retirement, who are certainly in the 55+ age group. I am thrilled you found our conference valuable! There is nothing more motivating to be in that room with hundreds of high caliber returning professionals, and employers interested in hiring them.
It's great opportunity as for me. I would like to have similar program in my country, in Ukraine. Cause it's so important and meaningful to have a second chance and opportunity to return to work being maybe even more resourceful and motivating then earlier.
