i got teary-eyed when you offered him some birdy bread and he was like "no i want more scritchies" like???? baby??? absolute baby??? hes got his work cut out for him but the fact that youre able to pet him already shows he does trust you, just not his environment
using pets as reassurance will be good for him, its how i managed to help a stray cat with ptsd [i know not the same breed but most animals respond well to reassurance/love] The cat just showed up one day and while she wanted attention shed get spooked and hiss and run but then you'd see her "wake up" from it and look so sad, took weeks of me just letting her "wake up" and come back to be cuddled again for her to realise that I wasnt going to hurt her like i suspect others had. Sadly I moved and had to keep her at my family home so she rarely sees me now and it breaks my heart because while im still the only one who can pick her up and be hands on, she clearly doesnt want to relax 100% because she knows im not staying :( but i moved in with my partner and he already has cats and She really doesnt get on well with others. I have however started training my partners cat XD which he didnt believe me till he saw it for himself... She wont do it for him but i can have her sit and wait for me to put her food out rather than trying to headbutt her face into the bowl out of impatience. But for me she will sit and wait till i tell her its okay. Also managed to stop her jumping on the window ledge, after resistance from my partner despite her forever falling asleep and off said ledge one time actually falling out the window, which in on the second floor... shes smart but also very dumb XD

I would say less panicked more, "I don't fly often, so flying across the room was a lot for me." Kinda like how you'd pant after sprinting. There is def some stress there, but I would wager a good portion was also the flight itself. She did mention he's missing a lot of his flight feathers, so he likely is unused to flying for long periods of time.

I have an african grey too. Her name is Angel. She's so adorable and likes to cuddle all the time. She's a bit of a scardy bird too. But she is so lovable. I also have to hold her legs everytime I took her out though. She spooks easily.

This is really helpful! My bird is afraid of everything to the point where he screams and runs away from toys. But with this process he has improved to not being afraid of his chop and has learned that he likes carrots!
Yay carrots!! Carrots are so great for birds because they're a good source of vitamin A so getting a bird to like carrots is such a 10/10 success! I /wish/ I could get my budgies to like carrots, but they like a lot of other good veggies atleast 😜
I watched like 20 seconds of this video and I'm not a fan. Don't over stimulate the bird-- remove toys they're afraid of and introduce them back slowly. If you want them to get down, don't hold their feet...
Felicity it’s interesting. I don’t know if you follow the channel but they are incredibly good trainers. Jamie is the first to hold her hands up if she made mistakes. She rehabilitates problem birds and has shown over and again the success tmw he has with working with them. This video for instance, shows an incredibly scared parrot. If you watched all the way through you would know the. It’s has exhibited fear for the 8 years previous. Jamie’s sole intention is to rehabilitate the bird so it can go to a good home. If she waited until the bird came out on its own, regardless of time, she is eventually giving the bird the message that fear is ok. She has to help it overcome the fear and after allowing a long time for it to come out alone, she helps it. As soon as the bird is out the cage, it willingly climbs into her arm and sees her as a safe place. So much so that she has to work with it to get it off her arm. She’s a very good trainer.

Got a lady to hatch a egg but she gave my baby away to another. Wasnt meant to be. I love cocatoos also the orane or yellow tuffted one. But this channel is my new fav.

These videos make me wish I could convince my in-laws to send their sulphur crested cockatoo, Angie, to a rescue. They rescued her from neighbors who abused her years ago, but she needs to be in a home with people who will give her all the attention she needs. She’s constantly stressed, plucking her feathers, she hates the Dad, poor girl needs a better home. The Mom knows she’s not happy, but is terrified whoever she gives Angie to will abuse her. She loves Angie and cannot imagine giving her up. I think she needs to see more videos like this, show her what happy birds looks like in proper birdie homes. I’ll show her your channel and hopefully it’ll convince her ❤️.
Oof, that's not a conversation that I'd want to have to tackle - convincing your in-laws that they can't take proper care of their pet, and should give it up - good luck with that, lol. :-)
You'd probably have more success using this channel to educate your in-laws as to what changes they could make to the bird's environment that would improve its quality of life. No matter justified it is, or how gently you try and break it to your MIL that she can't provide the home the bird needs, she's gonna take it badly. Probably as a negative reflection on her, maybe even an insult. That's not gonna make her receptive to your advice. People get incredibly defensive about their relationships with their pets. Even when there's a glaringly obvious fault on the part of the owner (which is the true cause of 99% of 'problem pets') getting the owner to recognise that the problem lies with THEIR behaviour, and not the pet's, is the key battle which most of these animal whisperer types have to win to solve the problem. If your MIL loves the bird as much as you say, surely she'd be willing to make some improvements to the bird's life, which stop short of giving it up? That MIGHT be the ideal solution for the bird (even with the added stress of relocation), but it's hardly ideal for your MIL, which makes it less likely to be achievable.
Your really talented at this. Like making all this progress in ONE DAY is incredible, and being able to hand feed the bird and make him prune is so amazing x

Also, the idea of placing your sweater down on the counter so he could stand on it and still get the feeling that he's close to you, but so you're able to actually put him down for a minute was brilliant!

I have one just like yours. Atlas is scared of everything. For example, if we get him a new stand, I have to take my sweater and allow him to be on it. I put him on the stand with the sweater and in a few days, he is off the sweater and biting the wood and playing. Whatever to make him comfortable, that's how they work when they are scared. Great job!
J Chacon you should definitely try desensitizing your bird. I’m sure there’s video on RUclips on how to do so. It’ll help your bird be more confident in itself. And it’s just generally a good idea.
This was a great video- it made me realise that not all parrots are brave and well trained like we see them in “perfect” videos and that some are just different and unique in their own ways! (like my easily spooked cockatiel who I still love regardless ❤️) 👍

Our Eccie is kind of the same way.... Her breeder wasn't the best and she was terrified of everything when I met her two years ago. She's much better now and we've bonded enough that now when she is scared of something, I can typically show her it's fine just by interacting with it myself. She'll forget she's scared of anything if I somehow involve it with me eating, but really it's all about controlling the environment. I hope Mr. Bean Bob Sponge Butt does well! He already seems to love you which looks like it's making him more eager!

It's really cool to watch his pupils while he was eating. They go from large to smaller the entire time he was eating. I've learned from you about how a bird's pupils indicate a mood variation. So fascinating the biology of different animals showing trust in so many ways. Monitor lizards give long slow tongue flicks to show they are relaxed and "thinking" as Kevin from N.E.R.D. had taught us. I just love all you people who dedicate their lives to help animals. Whether finned or feathered, scaly to fury... all animals on this planet deserve to be left alone but.... when they have been injured or lost, abused or starved by a human... You... the glorious people on RUclips have shown me so many marvelous methods of husbandry!! I rescued my Quaker 9 years ago and for the first 2 years I think she was on me probably the whole 2 years. She was so frightened. My heart ached for her ,she does so much better now but still I'm mommy!

S-so it’s okay to hold their legs? I did that with my cockatiel because he is a scaredy bird but I thought I was hurting him so I stopped 🥺
You need to desensitize your bird. Slowly and kindly but it’ll make a whole world of difference and make your bird more confident.

These videos make me wish I could convince my in-laws to send their sulphur crested cockatoo, Angie, to a rescue. They rescued her from neighbors who abused her years ago, but she needs to be in a home with people who will give her all the attention she needs. She’s constantly stressed, plucking her feathers, she hates the Dad, poor girl needs a better home. The Mom knows she’s not happy, but is terrified whoever she gives Angie to will abuse her. She loves Angie and cannot imagine giving her up. I think she needs to see more videos like this, show her what happy birds looks like in proper birdie homes. I’ll show her your channel and hopefully it’ll convince her ❤️.
Oof, that's not a conversation that I'd want to have to tackle - convincing your in-laws that they can't take proper care of their pet, and should give it up - good luck with that, lol. :-)
You'd probably have more success using this channel to educate your in-laws as to what changes they could make to the bird's environment that would improve its quality of life.
No matter justified it is, or how gently you try and break it to your MIL that she can't provide the home the bird needs, she's gonna take it badly. Probably as a negative reflection on her, maybe even an insult. That's not gonna make her receptive to your advice. People get incredibly defensive about their relationships with their pets. Even when there's a glaringly obvious fault on the part of the owner (which is the true cause of 99% of 'problem pets') getting the owner to recognise that the problem lies with THEIR behaviour, and not the pet's, is the key battle which most of these animal whisperer types have to win to solve the problem.
If your MIL loves the bird as much as you say, surely she'd be willing to make some improvements to the bird's life, which stop short of giving it up? That MIGHT be the ideal solution for the bird (even with the added stress of relocation), but it's hardly ideal for your MIL, which makes it less likely to be achievable.

@BirdTricks it's so sweet how he just wants to stay with you! He must sense that he can trust you and that's adorable. Also, the idea of placing your sweater down on the counter so he could stand on it and still get the feeling that he's close to you, but so you're able to actually put him down for a minute was brilliant!

His owner said its been a really long time since he has been around other birds. So far he doesn't react to the noises he hears of mine (they're outside) but time will tell.

I have one just like yours. Atlas is scared of everything. For example, if we get him a new stand, I have to take my sweater and allow him to be on it. I put him on the stand with the sweater and in a few days, he is off the sweater and biting the wood and playing. Whatever to make him comfortable, that's how they work when they are scared. Great job!
J Chacon you should definitely try desensitizing your bird. I’m sure there’s video on RUclips on how to do so. It’ll help your bird be more confident in itself. And it’s just generally a good idea.
This was a great video- it made me realise that not all parrots are brave and well trained like we see them in “perfect” videos and that some are just different and unique in their own ways! (like my easily spooked cockatiel who I still love regardless ❤️) 👍

Our Eccie is kind of the same way.... Her breeder wasn't the best and she was terrified of everything when I met her two years ago. She's much better now and we've bonded enough that now when she is scared of something, I can typically show her it's fine just by interacting with it myself. She'll forget she's scared of anything if I somehow involve it with me eating, but really it's all about controlling the environment. I hope Mr. Bean Bob Sponge Butt does well! He already seems to love you which looks like it's making him more eager!

I’m not a lover of birds but I hate to see any animal in distress, you’re doing amazing work with him, he’s very sweet.
Remember, birds tend to go through a "honeymoon" period when they are with new people/environments. So some of his acceptance may change within the week!
Why do you think that is? Do they realize that they are being imprisoned and would rather be doing things out in the wild? Do they usually resign themselves to their fate later on?
@@kreeves344 No, literally not at all. Most parrot birds (Conures, Ringnecks, African Greys, and Macaws) will come back to their people if they're outside.

Iv watched this for less than 5 minutes, I know nothing about African greys. But I know that he trusts you and feels safe holing onto you. Bless you for having him, your obvious love and patience.
It's really cool to watch his pupils while he was eating. They go from large to smaller the entire time he was eating. I've learned from you about how a bird's pupils indicate a mood variation. So fascinating the biology of different animals showing trust in so many ways. Monitor lizards give long slow tongue flicks to show they are relaxed and "thinking" as Kevin from N.E.R.D. had taught us. I just love all you people who dedicate their lives to help animals. Whether finned or feathered, scaly to fury... all animals on this planet deserve to be left alone but.... when they have been injured or lost, abused or starved by a human... You... the glorious people on RUclips have shown me so many marvelous methods of husbandry!! No matter how horrible your first days with a rescued or sick or abused and neglected animal... you bring them into the light. YOU ..glorious, kind, beautiful guardians of these all of these beautiful creatures ...ARE THE LIGHT!💫❣💥

I’ve watched all the videos (3) on bean. How is he doing? I myself just rescued a grey! She is amazing and is slowly getting more and more comfortable with our family. She was in a horrible condition when we got her. I actually documented everything because I want to see her progress and share with others. Birds are amazing 😉

I rescued my Quaker 9 years ago and for the first 2 years I think she was on me probably the whole 2 years. She was so frightened. My heart ached for her ,she does so much better now but still I'm mommy!
