G'day mate! Thanks for mentioning my research on La Buse, the Pirate of Cotinga Island, which was a breakthrough (the two flags included). More data is coming soon in a form of a book. Best wishes (G.H.).
"Wealth, Fame, and Power. Olivier Levasseur has acquired everything this world has offered. But his final world before he was execute was sparked all people set themselves to the sea." "DO YOU WANT MY TREASURE? YOU CAN HAVE IT! I LEFT EVERYTHING IN THERE! YOU JUST HAVE TO FIND IT!"
Hi, I was talking with Geraldo Hostin, an archeologist that was studying the story of La Buse in Brazil. That's s really nice video ! You are probably the only one that speak about La Buse's way to Brazil. But he said some details are wrong or approximative. -When the Brazilian team found canons they found about six finbankers and not only one. -The boat that was hunting la buse was not the one that found him, this one was from Captain du bocage that was first hunted, then hunting him in the bay of Paranagua. -The brigantine that was coming with Louise was probably taken in the coast of Venezuela, are pirates might have made a small tour previously to Brazil then took this boat and came back to Brazil. That's not sure but that's his theory. -He was telling about 6,000 piasters to release Ericeira, and the Bourbon's governor probably didn't ask to pay more. (Though I have seen other sources telling about 2000 piastres too) Thanks for your work, it's really awesome and I learn a lot with you. Morover, as French man, La Buse is my favorite pirate :)
One of your best videos to date mate, like a few of the recent ones actually, plus It happens that they also focuses on my favorites GAoP topics of the moment (First Madagascar then La Buse), so I couldn't be more satisfied, Thanks Willem !
This is GOL D. ROGER in real life! The true Pirate King incarnate!!! 🤯 He existed! The One Piece is real! Oda never ceases to amaze when it comes to his inspiration for characters, the guy really does his research 🏴☠️ Thanks for sharing!
He has talked about doing an annual video series, each time focusing on pirates separated from the golden age, so it’s possible he’ll cover 19th century filibusters someday especially since they ripped their name from buccaneers
@@rogerl.copenhaverjr.9931 wow, awesome, man i tried to search about this man, some of the characters who participated in the walker campaign where completely awesome, but i didn't found anything, would you kindly send me something to read about this man?
Ok I got the name of walkers second in command's name wrong😩 try looking up Charles Frederick Henningsen he also fought as a Brigider General in the Confederate army, during the US civil war
This was a wonderful video. Very good content! The quality of resent vids had been superb. I learned a lot of his early years but I wonder what source describe that fate to Hms Scarborough as it does differ from most (compare for example Republic of Pirates)? Edit: I do not have the book but it may be this comes from a deposition included in Dictionary of Pyrate Biography by Baylus C. Brooks based on search of google books (but could not see the full page and the book is a tad too pricey for me). There is however contradicting evidence in many places so it may be Scarborough was not taken after all, but it is possible. The story of the Cabo was very well told here (but Douglas Botting's "Pirates" say that the count was actually expelled for a whole decade but anyway irrelevant little detail). But again great deep research and quality content which is far too rare in YT, unique even. So good use of images and nice reconstructions of event chronology. The narration, which really has never been an issue is also again very nice to follow and I like the occasional memes in these. Looking forward for future vids and I hope there will be a lot of views for the channel. Cheers!
Somebody needs to calculate this dude’s net worth in modern money. Like including all of the supplies, gunpowder provisions, how much money is every one of his ships and stuff worth.
Must once more praise the video also for its editing. Btw do we know if he had only one eye? Pop history speaks how he had an eyepatch but I have been doubting...
@@unknowntrooper_2791yeah it’s almost just as likely that he did as he didn’t, like if someone portrayed La Buse in media with a wounded eye I wouldn’t fault it really but I also wouldn’t say that he did have one
It would be funny if he was just writing random characters on a sheet of paper to practice handwriting or intentionally mislead others into trying to decipher it
Thank you very much for this whole story ! I'm confused : wasn't there some Levasseur as governor of Tortuga before Bertrand d'Ogeron ? Some kind of mad governor in a fort with a suspended cage ?
You would not want to meet a gendarme or any soldier of the modern (I can assure you) or historical French army. France is the record holder for the highest number of won wars.
The French have perhaps the proudest military history in Europe. I do remember freedom fries bro. Time to let that meme die at least on history channels

Ofc it's based on real pirates, do you think he got all that ideas by just sitting around? Think clearly.

Thank you for shining a bit of light on the 1987 film Walker, it's a really good film.
so glad to finally have your use of filibuster explained lol
Excellent video as usual!
I think it would be a awesome idea even thought its off topic, to make a video about the filibuster war in nicaragua
He has talked about doing an annual video series, each time focusing on pirates separated from the golden age, so it’s possible he’ll cover 19th century filibusters someday especially since they ripped their name from buccaneers
Actually it would fit in perfectly considering John Henningston (William Walkers Second in Command) was a Pirate, Mercenary and explosives expert??

It does come from the Dictionary, it's listed in the sources for the video.
