  • Some women are choosing their jobs based off of the fertility benefits offered by the company. Starbucks and Amazon are just two of the companies some women are choosing that offer coverage for in vitro fertilization services.

I’m still really confused why fertility care isn’t considered essential healthcare in the U.S. It is around $20,000 per IVF cycle and women are left to foot the bill. Do better insurance companies.

Why would it being considered healthcare make any difference? Have you ever deal with the insurance companies here?.... Admittedly I live in Florida and it doesn't get much worse than that.

the whole insurance thing is an american only issue. the rest of the world can get a short term plan in europe for like $10/mo for their entire IVF cycle, and then once completed, no out of pocket costs. (can't remember which country, but most of the developed world, this is a not an issue, only america)

if it was considered essential health care, doctors couldn't refuse service regardless of payment. America Medical Act, but you'll still foot the bill later, but you'll get it. might have to sacrifice a home for that baby tho... mindblowing. @@DarkLink18819

Why not just put the women who want kids in contact with women who don't then instead of fertility clinics and abortion clinics we could just have adoption centers

Both giving birth and putting a child up for adoption are exceptionally expensive (might depend some on where you live). There are also various reasons why someone may need an abortion other than just not wanting the baby. Politicians always try to make it black and white

Adoption is expensive and time consuming, but it would be interesting to see the cost comparison to ivf/fertility treatments.
The real reason most people skip over adoption centers is because they want their own. If they do adopt it’s usually only babies. I’ve seen some infertile people pass over older kids to adopt cuz they don’t want their “problems” 🙄

@LP-ct9nk As someone who was adopted I can tell you the process is exceptionally more expensive and rightfully so considering making sure the individuals doing the adopting are up to it and a good fit is..... kinda important.
Either way it doesn't justify forcing a woman to carry something to term, and I intentionally did call it something.
