Medellin Has A REAL CASTLE? No Way! 🤯 | Castle Museum

Did you know Medellin has an ACTUAL castle? A REAL one, I'm not kidding! Today's video is about Museo El Castillo (Castle Museum Medellin) in which we'll visit a real castle in Medellin! I recently visited the Castle Museum of Medellin and learned about its fascinating history. It offers permanent exhibitions of objects in porcelain and glass, stained glass, antiques, paintings, and sculptures, among other things. Once a family home and then converted to a museum in 1971, this Medieval Gothic-style castle is an essential place to visit next time you're in Medellin!
A Gothic medieval castle, surrounded by striking French gardens, in the neighbourhood of El Poblado. This is the Museum El Castillo, built in 1930 by the firm HM Rodriguez, who were inspired by the castles of the Loire Valley in France. The building became a museum in 1972. Its collection of fine and decorative arts includes European and Colombian artists’ paintings.
Arriving at the castle, with its avenue of foreign European trees and its impressive Gothic iron gates, certainly feels like you’re anywhere but Colombia. Strangely enough, the story behind the Museo de Castillo (Castle Museum) is even more interesting than the building itself. Every room, every space in the Castle has been preserved exactly as it was. El Castillo Museum contains the original furnishings and art collected by the family that lived there. It’s full of priceless artwork and porcelain statues as well as books and rare furniture.
Just outside, there is a beautiful garden with fountains and several benches to sit outside and enjoy Medellín’s perfect weather.
The Museo de Castillo is a center for arts and culture, and a place to preserve one of the stories of Medellin’s past.
