I think all Nike trail shoes are effectively hybrid shoes, protective and durable but none of them are for super technical trail, climbing vertical trail or particularly good in mud. Just really running shoes with lugs.🤷♂️😳
Great styling though, better with a pair of jeans than in the wild IMO.
Yeah very true
For me the Peg Trail 36 is the perfect summer trail shoe. The newer versions since all seem too bulky and nowhere near as nimble.
Love my trail 36 as well. Wear them everywhere. Was hoping this version would go back to that nimble feeling
Peg 36 one of the best shoes Nike ever made.
Still have the first design, in the all black colour way with GTX. They’re awesome. Like you say they’re like hybrid shoes. I tend to wear them in winter even for pure road running routes - especially when it’s cold/ damp/ slippy. I find they can cope better with it than my Saucony Ride 13.
Got these this week since it was on sale, same price as the 2. Haven’t ran in them yet but I wore them on my mountain biking I did yesterday and they’re super comfy. Traction seems solid (at least while it’s dry anyway)
I had the Pegasus 36 Trails and about 500 fairly hard, dirty & wet miles in and they're a bit hard and cause some hotspots. Were great up to that point but they've had a hard life. These will be interesting upgrades.
I love mine
Thanks for comparing them all! Just got the GTX myself and it was a nice ride, will save myself a few dollars and stick to it.
100% keep them
Thanks for the great review. Love the honesty
Thank you!!!
My light trail/road shoe is the Hoka Challenger ATR 6. Haven't got a lot of miles on them yet but so far I'm quite happy with them. They're going to get more use soon and in November I have a 10K trail race with 900 feet elevation
900 feet 🤦♂️🤣
@@FordyRuns Don't laugh Fordy, that high elevator for me!
I'll keep saying it. Pegasus trail 2 was my favourite trail shoe of 2020. I ran a 50k in them with zero foot pain. I have quite a few trail shoes from Altra, Salomon, Hoka, and Inov-8. Don't get me wrong, they all offer good trail shoes, the Nike was good for buffed trails or "road to trail" and not necessarily for super technical trails.
Totally agree thank you
Very cushioned. Great for easy long runs. Nike just needs to make a good trail shoe that can compete with other companies for lightweight shoes.
Good point wouldn’t it be cool if they made a super lightweight proper trail shoe
@@FordyRuns would be. I've got all their trail shoes over the last 3 years and they are ok for training on non technical stuff, but they've got nothing that you'd want to race in, especially on technical trails.
Nice colour co-ordination :-)
I ran in the 36 Trail Gtx and the Trail 2 Gtx (I do like the Gtx for walking through fords and streams when out with the family) - I think for running I need to man up and buy the non Gtx 3 - All the above ran large for me so have half size down - Testing Terra Kiger 7 first - got those in my normal size and they fit as is...
Yeah it’s a sweet colour
I heard the GTX version is a tighter fit? Is that true mate
Agree with you: the trail 2 was a better looking shoe, absolutely loved that design. Just received the trail 3. Prefer that there’s no neoprene collar, but would like it slightly higher/more secure around ankle. Still wonder if there’ll be the odd issue with grip, but overall expect it to be up there with the previous iteration.
Fordy, hows this compared to the Wild horse 6. I find the world horse on road is abit sticky. Hows the peg trail 2 should on the road. Some of the trails we have here in Cape Town has some road in between
Great on the road
Quick question Fordy: I have found the peg 2’s heel angles slightly inwards causing a bit of digging into my Achilles - are the peg 3’s shape the same? Thanks in advance
Better
Pegasus trail VS wildhorse? I'm sure you get asked this a lot but I saw some people about the peg35 being more nimble.. wildhorse 7 is so nimble
Trail for me
What are they like for cushioning? I have a lot of joint problems in my knees and it's hard to find a good rough road running shoe to help with that
Better than expected
For me all they had to do to the Peg trail 36 was deepen the lugs to 4 or 5 mm perfect trail shoe instead they totally changed the whole shoe! Now all their trail shoes are bulky nondescript
Great feedback thanks
I wanted to go that way but it's a little bit mucky...... that's the best bit for me 🤣
🤣🤣🤣 there was tyre tracks from the diggers where they put a bridge in all full of water you would have loved it.
I've tried pegasus wildhorse 5 and trail 2. Don't like either of them. Too heavy.
They are heavy compared to others
are these true to size?
Yes very much so
Thx for the review. As a long time marathon runner with a consistent marathon time of around 3:20 I am a longtime user of the Nike Vaporfly % range so went looking for something that would work for me on trails. I tried Hoka (yuk) and settled on the Peg 36 trail which I love. I understand the comments around what is suitable and not suitable for a highly technical trail and the Peg trail may not fit that but I would say that could only be the case for elite trail runners surely. I have used the Peg 36 now in 5 trail races including the 50km highly technical in parts Ultra-trail in Australia and had no issues at all. My training trail has over 500m of elevation (and equivalent descent)within a 4km stretch, all technical and again no issues with the shoes on this terrain - as I say I am not trying to fly across those parts but I am also not walking. I am going to take a close look at these once my current 2 pairs of Peg 36 are done!
Great feedback thank you
3.20 😯😯. One can only appreciate that when you run yourself... big ups bro
Just picked up the Trail 3 on Nike for €72 (£62) Ive never been able to better my Peg 36 Trails but hope these will come close.
I struggle with the lockdown on the Trail 2. And the tongue is so thin, that it’s uncomfortable to cinch the laces to get a more secure fit. Looks like the 3 provides a better lockdown.
I've got over 300mi on my T2s and they still have some life in them. I think I'm going to hold off on a new pair and see how the new Endorphin Trail looks as my new favorite shoe is the Endorphin Speed. I'm a bit disappointed Nike got rid of the sock type upper which was great for keeping dirt out of the shoe.
I’m looking fwd to those endorphin trail they look sweet
Sending mine back. The heel collar is too high and digs into my ankle bones. Another reviewer has mentioned this being a problem for them too.
Ah sorry to hear that! I’ve not had any probs so far
Are they coming out with the Gore Tex version too?
They will yes
Thanks for comparing them, had problem with just the thin tongue in version 2! So looking forward to try this out!
You’ll love these then
