  • This video demonstrates how to conduct and interpret a Brown-Forsythe test in SPSS. The Brown-Forsythe test is used when the homogeneity of variance assumption for One-Way ANOVA is violated (statistically significant Levene’s test). The Welch test is also reviewed.

Dr. Grande, how would you explain the lack of significance in the post-hoc testing? Is it a question of power (meaning N is too low)? If so, could you show us how to calculate the sample size needed to make definite conclusions (i.e. a power analysis) based on these results? That would be really helpful. Thank your for this amazing series!

Dr. Grande, can you run ANCOVA using Welch or Brown-Forsythe test in SPSS? Homogeneity of variance is violated but I still wish to control participant's demographic variables such as age and gender.

Hi if you do this test and Welch and Brown-Forsythe come up as blank (this is only one comparison I am doing the others have results). What does that mean?
